Game Day thread - Miami and Houston

Exactly right, but I think ziggy and miss texan misunderstand the rule. There was no way for the Texans to simply take a knee and run out the clock. The down is untimed and the offense has to either kick the PAT or go for two. If you're up by one, of course you go for two.

wrong. i understand that... it's not about time management. it's about preventing an unnecessary turnover. They intercept it and return it for 2 points... they basically win the game. so you run the ball to minimize that risk. schaub/slaton fumble the handoff, porter returns it for 2 points and they basically win. it has nothing to do with running time off b/c the clock is dead. its about preventing an unnecessary risk. hence, you take a knee... then kickoff with a guaranteed 1 pt lead. you just have to hope you can stop a kickoff return or a hail mary/gadget play.

What in the world are you talking about? THEY CANNOT RETURN IT!!

Do you get it? IT'S A DEAD BALL AT THAT POINT.

And i apologize for shouting in all caps. Kubiak didn't just fall off the turnip truck. He's aware of the rules.

This is really simple:

With the 2 seconds left and the Dolphins had the ball:

If they threw downfield, let's say to the 30, and there was a pass interference call, the Dolphins could have kicked a field goal since the game cannot end on a defensive penalty.

So we wanted a 3 point lead for this reason. Not likely, but a 1 point win versus a 2 point win doesn't really matter...

Good call in my opinion.

QFT, Exactly what I was thinking.

It's the only call in that situation. Honestly, it's so straightforward that it doesn't really deserve comment either way. The dumb move would've been kicking the PAT because it gives you no advantage at all.

I understand it's untimed but i was under the impression it can be returned for points. only its worth 2 points max.

that's a really good point and the easiest explanation. i forgot in the pros that a pass interference is at the spot of the foul. there would be no time left but miami would still have 1 play left. that's the most likely scenario. ;) gracias... it was a good call!

You have been watching too much college ball.

:tease:

Anyways...

WE WON!!! YAY!!!!!!

Nice to get the first win under the belt. It nearly caused me to have a heart attack, but fortunately I made it through. Mad props to Matt Schaub, the true starting qb of the Houston Texans. Made some really bad throws early in the game but did what he needed to do win us the game. Andre Johnson had another monster game but also had a monster fumble. Kevin Walter, OD, Slaton, Green, the defense, and Jacoby Jones were all big players. We made a TON of mistakes and nearly resulted in another epic loss, but we made it out today. Guys need to work on holding on to the ball!!!! Anyway, Go Texans and let's make it two in a row.

I get it. I thought you could return an interception and get 2 points. I didn't realize that there are absolutely no consequences for the offense if they turn it over. I was asking yall about that situation and youve answered it. No need to get all fired up bud. but thanks for the clarification:)

it was an exciting game, i'm so glad we finally got a W. I'm really happy Schaub got to lead the team on the drive at the end and get the TD himself. I was disappointed the fans were chanting for Sage earlier in the game. I thought it was funny that Daniels was telling the fans to shut up.
