Game 5...Extreme test...Minnesota Vikings!

JamTex

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, Oct 9th, the Texans will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings at noon CST.
These 2 teams are to closely matched on offense and defense to call a win one way or the other.
Since the game is in Minnesota, It has to go to the Vikings.
Sam has been great up there. Without Peterson, the running game hasn't slowed much.
Their defense is smothering to say the least.
It's going to be a really tough game up there.
As much as I love the Texans and believe they will find a way, I can't call this a win.
It's going to be a tough loss in Minnesota.

Vikings 20
Texans 17

If the Texans manage to go to Minnesota and win it will be under extreme duress.

I think we will see a much better defense than we have so far. I think team will have settled from Watt being out and know roles better. If Cushing escaped as healthy as he appeared to, defense should be better there and same with CLowney's role. I am calling for Houston win based on info known now. Of interest is Os passing at 62% and 6.5 avg

This week would be a perfect time to have our first 0 turnover game.

The Vikings have been winning games by winning the turnover and getting tds from their D/ST. If we deny them that opportunity we win the game. Easier said than done obviously but now is the time to play clean football!

I think we're going to stink the joint up and come home 3-2 but obviously I'm hoping for a different outcome.

I just don't have a lot of faith in the Texans right now.

It's not that I don't have faith in the Texans, it's just that this offense is just starting to get into a rhythm and gel. It's early in the birth of this offense and it's not completely ready yet. Even though we've seen flashes in every game, we haven't seen consistency. Osweiller needs to get better at protecting the ball. The defense needs to stop the run. The special teams need to stay on the improvement path.
This will be a learning game. Not a winning game.

Nobody can blame you for that. Texans have shown they can't play with the big dogs. All wins have gone down to the wire.
It's going to be an extreme test in the extreme.

I won't make any predictions, but I obviously hope that we leave Minnesota with a win. Don't care if it's an ugly/sloppy game as a win is a win, and I'm sure we'll take a W however we can get it.

Think I've seen enough. He's competent maybe even a lil better then average in a clean pocket. Hit him a couple of times and he's rattled. His accuracy drops off drastically and he starts making bad decisions.

This game really made that clear to me and i expect every solid team we face to blitz early and often.

the bears, chiefs and titans blitzed us a lot... we won
the pats didn't blitz much and we lost...

hope they all blitz us... .

I hope the OL gets better. Or blitz pickup as a whole.

Brock ain't the only one learning this offense.

If you can't see the difference in oz after a few games i don't know what to tell you - but i invite you to rewatch this game.

Sorry friend. I didn't say it because of a 4 month old article. I said it because games this season and the last one just hours old. Maybe now that we're talking about it you'll start to notice how much his accuracy deteriorates after a few hits.

Let's look at that for a second. Last Thursday night, Osweiller threw 5 passes that were dropped by the receiver. Included in those dropped passes were one to Fuller and one to DHop. Lamar dropped one, Fido dropped one and Griffin dropped one. Those 5 drops either stalled or stopped a drive. That's 5 drives that didn't continue because of a dropped pass that could have been caught. The out come of that game could have been very different if those passes had been caught. Another fact. the last 3 interceptions thrown by Osweiller were all to DHop. Last week against the Pats DHop didn't get up for the ball quick enough and it was picked off by the Pats. Today, DHop let a ball bounce out of his hands on the first interception. That one could have been caught. The other was on Osweiller. He under threw the ball to DHop and it was picked off.
Are you watching the same games I am? Osweiller could have come out last week with much better numbers and possibly even the win had those 5 dropped passes been caught.
Special teams lost that game last week. 2 fumbles that resulted on Pats scores, bad field position and those dropped passes led to that loss. That can't be put on Osweiller. He fought hard to get points. The team let him down and the result last week was a humiliating loss.
This week, Osweiller and the Texans over came the missed plays and won.
Putting it all on Osweiller and saying he can't play under pressure is just not right.
You need to reevaluate those games and you'll see.
Osweiller has been improving in every game and he'll continue to learn and get better. By mid-season, this offense will really start rolling. With Osweiller as the quarterback.

This is going to be the game of the week! The 3-1 Texans versus the 4-0 or 3-1 Vikings. The Vikings play the Giants on Monday Night Football tonight but I hope they remain undefeated going into our game.

Don't turn the ball over and let's try to grind that game out. If our guys are up for the challenge that could be an exciting game to watch. We haven't been able to beat a good team on the road for a long time in recent years, other than the Bengals, off the top of my head.

If we can win at Minnesota that would be a tremendous confidence booster. We would also be sitting pretty with a 4-1 record. Let's not give the other teams in our division a chance to even dream about catching us. We could run away with the AFC South if we keep winning games.

About the only positive I'm seeing is that the Vikings will be coming off of a short week. I think it'll be a competitive game.

Basically in a number of important categories Case Keenum is doing better than Brock right now. Case. Keenum. Better completion percentage (slightly), better TD\INT ratio, same record. I know it's pretty "apples to oranges" but given what this team has done with the (now) 8 QB's its played since O'Brien got here I really don't think we'd be in any different a spot with any of the others starting, including Keenum.

I'm not making that an indictment of Os because of obviously we all hope and expect his ceiling to keep going up but if it doesn't then what exactly did we need to spend $72 million dollars on again? If many of the bad things we're seeing (as you pointed out) end up being career trends (and we've seen some QB's in our time hold on to some bad habits through thick and thin. It happens on a pretty regular basis around the league and breaking a QB of bad habits is not a trivial exercise.

The Os experiment is off to a very shaky start. From time to time I see him do something awesome but mostly I see Alex Smith type brain farts out there as the game goes along. We could have had that for a lot less money. Hell we may even already have had that on our roster.

Next week is going to be brutal. I expect a turnover fest by this anemic offense, and Seegara posting a worst loss ever poll.

Texans 6
Vikings 27

I don't have a lot of faith in the coaching. They've (OB) really seemed in over their heads the last 2 weeks.

I'm actually flying up to catch this game at the new stadium with my best friend who is a lifelong Vikings fan. Have been waiting to check out this new stadium since we found out Houston and Minnesota were playing there.

On to the game, I actually feel like we match up well with Minnesota. Teams with dynamic passing attacks give us trouble (EX. Packers, Brady Patriots, Steelers). However, we usually fair much better against grind it out teams who have a limited passing attack. With no AP the Vikings attack is pretty much all Diggs, Rudolph, and defensive/special teams scores. If, and this is still a big if, Osweiler can keep his turnovers to 0-1 I think we will take the W. Asiata and McKinnon are nowhere near any of the backs we have played thus far, and Bradford doesn't particularly scare me with Diggs as his lone deep option and no escapability. The key again as said in a couple posts is turnovers and field position. The extra day of rest for us is also a plus with Minnesota playing New York tonight. I'm going 24-14 good guys.

Os better become good in a hurry if the Texans have any chance to win in Minn. Right now, I see a guy repeating the same mistakes game after game. When he can take time and survey the field and stand tall in the pocket, he's actually pretty damn good. He can make any throw you want, and he can catch guys on the run and his deep ball accuracy is impressive. He does tend to lock in too often but I feel that can be corrected.

Unfortunately, in the NFL defenses aren't just going to let you sit back and survey the field down after down. When he is rushed, his decision making reverts to a Jr. High level, his accuracy suffers, he tosses it up too often, and things go south in a hurry. This same pattern has emerged each game. He's on a pace to throw 25 or so picks. Sorry for all the BrockBots, but that's horrible QB play.

Unless that changes, he's a bottom 1/3 starting QB, - and for the expenditure and expectations, that's not good.

All of that is to say, I see 2-3 picks again this weekend and we'll struggle to put points on the board against a very, very good Vikings defense. Don't expect a shutout necessarily, but it's going to be tough sledding. 27-6 Vikings.

You may want to reconsider that statement.. or do a little research. As was posted somewhere on this board, high interception numbers have been thrown by some very good, winning qb's.

It's not so much how many but when they are

No offense powda, but this is a particularly poor take on your part.
Not only is the linked article four months old, even the article itself says Brock did ok when blitzed.

Seems like you just set out to find any support for what you already believe to be true by citing that article.

While Osweiler did a good job when blitzed last season, he will need to improve his play when the defense gets to him with four pass-rushers. If he can do this, he may well end up as a success, but a similar performance when pressured could lead to disappointment for Texans fans expecting big things

It's not so much how many but when they are

2011 Roethisberger- 21 TD 14 INT
2012 E. Manning- 26 TD 15 INT
2013 Flacco- 19 TD 22 INT
2016 P. Manning- 9 TD 17 INT

End result- Ring

Well, There's a First.... Did you run out of Kool Aid Jam? I don't recall ever seeing you predict a Texans Loss.

since everyone is predicting doom and gloom I will be contrarian and say we squeak out victory. lest we forget this the NFL and anyone can win..

bradford is the one who gets rattled and throws some picks.

texans win 20-17.

I was actually going to predict Os first INT free game, but two other people beat me to it.... at least I'll cancel out Nasty Nate

I hope your prediction comes true, I'd much rather see a win. I would love a W in Minnestota, this one just has rectal prolapse written all over it.

I stand by what I said. Brock (as he currently stands today) is a bottom 1/3 of the league starter. I'm not saying he is beyond redemption or is a bust...yet. He clearly has some physical gifts to work with and he still has some upside but he needs to start displaying improvement.

He needs not only this year but on into next year before we can ascertain the long term for him, but he isn't Big Ben. Or Flacco. And last year's P Manning was horrible. If that is our goal for Brock, Good Lord help me. Eli Manning? That might be the best comparison out of this group, but call me back when Brock lights it up in big games and in the playoffs like Eli has a knack of doing.

If our defense doesn't get two or three turnovers, I couldn't care less what Osweiler does.

We went into this thinking we'll run the ball & play great defense. I was not expecting to see this guy come in here & throw the ball 41 times, or 37 times.

If Brock has to throw 40 times in that Minnesota game, the game was over before it even started.

Yes, that & his ability to negate the mistakes.

He's not going to play perfect football. He's not Dak Prescott or Carson Wentz.

I hope, instead of working on not making mistakes, that he & O'Brien are spending a lot of time on making plays, throwing TDs, putting us in position to win.

As a fan of both teams, I'll just root for a good, clean game.
But my money says Vikings at home. I was there for the opener against GB and I don't recall NRG ever being as loud as USBank was then.
The Vikings have already proved so many wrong, there's a huge chip on their shoulders.
Bradford is playing like the QB a few expected him to be coming out of college, and not what they saw with PHI and LA...er, STL.
The Vikings D will put Brock on the ground twice as often as the Texans do Sam. Bradford to Diggs will happen more than Brock to Hopkins and Miller (Fuller will get touches, but they won't be excessive).

If this game were here, I'd call it a toss up. But in MN, the Vikings take this by 2 TDs...and dominant.

Either way, I'm excited to be there. I'll root for beer and cheese curds.

I have a difficult time agreeing with this, but my head can't help but to say that I'm seeing the same thing after 4 games. I've been as optimistic as possible for myself here with Brock, but he does start making bad decisions the more he gets knocked around, and most games he is going to get knocked around with this Oline.

I hope the OL gets better. Or blitz pickup as a whole.

Brock ain't the only one learning this offense.

This is true, and unfortunately a lot of that is contributing to Brock getting hit more often, and its resulting in picks from Brock. Brock has to step up and start playing above the problem that surround him. Great QB's do that, and its his responsibility now. He is being paid to be that kind of QB. 4 games are done with and luckily we're 3-1, but I gave him and the offense around 6 games to work out the kinks. Minnesota is making every QB look bad, so I expect to see Brock struggling to complete a lot of passes down the field and resorting to those check downs he loves. He's got to get it together.

Unfortunately we didn't have enough moves we could have make in FA and with trades and the draft to have the Oline the way we need it to be in order to do that. They should be a little better than they are, but I didn't expect the Texans to have to rely on the pass nearly as much as they are. Its like they have to pass to set up the run now, and that is not a good scenario when your Oline can't stop the defense from constantly getting hits on your QB. Miller just isn't the right back for this style of Oline play to me, and his backups are below average.

I don't think the MN defense will let The Texans jump on them with 2 TDs early and I think they will get more turnovers than the Titans squandered. I don't lie our chances against the Vikings not because I think their offense is all that but their defense certainly is.

MN 24
HOU 17

Man, y'all are making my stomach hurt with your predictions. Reason being: Against the Pats, a game I was still kind of concerned about, a lot here were predicting US blowing them out, not the way it played out. With everyone leaning on the side of realism for this game, will the opposite play out, or will we get really embarrassed.

(hoping for the reverse jinx, optimism, optimism, optimism)

Come on Brock. Forget about those hits, stand in the pocket and make that play!

It's all about pressure. If we don't get pressure on Sam Bradford , he will pick us apart. Time for Romeo to get creative with some blitz packages. The Vikings as a whole are not any more talented than we are.

I think our DBs handle their receivers. We have a very good corner for each of their top three WRs even if KJ out. I also think JJ and Bouye wear out Stefon Diggs.

Vikings offense making plenty of mistakes tonight. Giants defense just not good enough to capitalize on them. We have to bring our hustle & get some turnovers.
