Fun draft Senario from HPF

Everyone thought our oline was going to be one of the better units when we started out. The Boselli deal had the biggest ripple effect.

I don't think its hindsight. I think the fact that we put soooo much into the fact that boselli was coming back full healed was a mistake.

When marshall faulk was injured badly the year before last the rams drafted some insurance in stephen jackson and now have the rb of the future for them. I'm not saying drafting boselli was bad b/c I would have too BUT you dont draft a guy with a major injury like that w/o some REAL back-up plan that has left your organization looking like its w/o a clue has to how to fix its oline.

GO TEXANS!!!! :texflag:

LMAO! You don't think it's hindsight?? So you think this writer wrote this in pieces in the past and somehow made ALL the right picks? lol, wake up.

When you go back through the past drafts you also see how Charley Casserly has made some great picks and some horrible ones as well. That's the nature of drafting college kids based mostly on potential. You're never sure what you truly have until you get them on the field.

I enjoyed the read, I know from experience he spent some time writing this article & have no problem with his playful revist of Texans draft history :texans:

I enjoyed the article, but I won't say that the drafting of Carr was the ripple effect. Starting him was (should have let Banks take the lumps the first two years). Also I agree with the idea of we are giving up too many picks for certain players (three 2nd rounders in 3 years, that is a lot of O-line players gone by).

the Texans do not draft Andre Johnson, instead trade down with a team who wants him and is willing to offer their 1st pick plus next years 1st pick, in this scenero its Arizona with the 17th pick (selected Bryant Johnson WR). with the 17th pick in the 2003 draft the Houston Texans select Willis McGahee RB Miami.

2004 Texans select with the 3rd overall pick aquired from Arizona Larry Fitzgerald WR Pittsburgh. Duanta Robinson 10th overall. the Texans do not make the Babin trade & keep their picks, so in the 2nd rd select Jake Grove C Virginia Tech #42 3rd rd. Max Starks RT Florida #75 & 4th rd. Dexter Reid SS North Carolina #103 (Texans do not draft Glenn Earl after taking Dexter Reid) so with pick #122 the Texans select Right Guard out of Idaho Jake Scott.

also of note Texans do not sign Todd Wade to that big fat long term contract & save the cap room to make the Trade to St. Louis for Orlando Pace, giving up the Texans 1st rd pick of the 2005 draft #13th overall and the 1st rd. pick of the Texans in 2006. the Texans then keep thier 2nd & 3rd rd picks & do not aquire PB.

with the Texans 2nd rd pick in the 2005 draft the Texans go after a young another young corner for Glenn to groom CB Darrent Williams, Oklahoma State with the 47th pick. in the 3rd Texans go ahead and take Morency #73 and ILB Kirk Morrison #78 fills the middle void left by Sharper & once again using the money saved by not singing Greenwood with youth and using the cap space to sign a DE converting to a OLB (take Babins spot) Kyle Vanden Bosch from the Arizona Cardinals a pass rushing end.

so the Texans are less-
  • Andre Johnson WR
  • Jason Babin OLB
  • Todd Wade RT (FA)
  • Morlon Greenwood ILB (FA)
  • Jamie Sharper ILB (FA)
  • Glenn Earl SS
  • Victor Reily (FA)
  • Travis Johnson
  • 2006 Texans 1st rd. pick

but the Texans are plus+
  • Willis McGahee RB
  • Larry Fitzgerald WR
  • Jake Grove C
  • Max Starks RT
  • Dexter Reid SS
  • Jake Scott RG
  • Orlando Pace LT
  • Aaron Glenn CB
  • Darrant Williams CB
  • Kirk Morrison ILB
  • Kyle Vanden Bosch OLB (FA)
