First-round draft projection for 2006

1 Houston (2-12) - Reggie Bush - RB – USC; Texans offense is dreaming about getting this guy.

2 San Francisco (2-12) - Matt Leinart - QB – USC; 49ers would not be able to pass on this talent passer but is hoping for Reggie.

3 New York Jets (3-11) - Vince Young - QB – Texas; Jets offense has to have plan B in place with Chad Pennington recovering from another injury.

4 New Orleans (3-11) - Jimmy Williams - CB - Virginia Tech; Saints defense would to love to add this shutdown cover man.

5 Green Bay (3-11) - Haloti Ngata - DT – Oregon; Packers need to build down the middle to improve.

6 Tennessee (4-10) - D’Brickashaw Ferguson - OT - Virginia; Titans have to regroup at the key offensive positions.

7 Arizona (4-10) - Mario Williams - DE - North Carolina State; Cardinals always seem to be drafting pass rushers.

8 Detroit (4-10) - Mathias Kiwanuka - DE - Boston College; Lions defense would love to add this big play sack artist.

9 Buffalo (4-10) - Rodrique Wright - DT – Texas; Bills showing some weakness in the middle that could be addressed early this spring.

10 Oakland (4-10) - A.J. Hawk - LB - Ohio State; Raiders need playmakers on defense to return to the playoffs.

11 Baltimore (5-9) - Ahmad Brooks - LB – Virginia; Ravens jump at the chance to add an impact linebacker.

12 Cleveland (5-9) - Eric Winston - OT – Miami; Browns better protect passer’s blindside if they expect improvement.

13 St. Louis (5-9) - Charles Gordon - CB – Kansas; Rams need to add a top rated cover man.

14 Philadelphia (6-8) - Michael Bush - RB – Louisville; Eagles must find a way to run the ball better.

15 Miami (7-7) - Marcus McNeill - OT – Auburn; The Dolphins must protect their passer whoever he is next season.

16 Denver (from Washington - 8-6) - Michael Huff - S - Texas; Broncos’ secondary looking to add a playmaker.

17 Minnesota (8-6) - DeAngelo Williams - RB – Memphis; Vikings jump at the chance to land this complete tailback.

18 Dallas (8-6) - Jonathan Scott - OT – Texas; Big D better find a way to protect Bledsoe.

19 Atlanta (8-6) - Chad Greenway - LB – Iowa; Falcons defense would love to add this playmaker.

20 Kansas City (8-6) - Kelly Jennings - CB – Miami; Chiefs defense has improved but a top cover man would be difficult to pass on here.

21 New England (9-5) - LaRon Landry - S - LSU; Patriots’ secondary looking to add a well developed prospect.

22 Pittsburgh (9-5) - LenDale White - RB – USC; Steelers have a couple of aging tailbacks at the end of the road.

23 San Diego (9-5) - DeMario Minter - CB – Georgia; Chargers looking to add a quality cover man.

24 Tampa Bay (9-5) - Jesse Mahelona - DT - Tennessee Bucs front line needs an influx of talent.

25 New York Giants (10-4) - Bobby Carpenter - LB - Ohio State; Giants have little depth here and another playmaker is a must.

26 Chicago (10-4) - Vernon Davis - TE – Maryland; Bears offense would welcome this blue chip athlete with many needs on offense.

27 Jacksonville (10-4) - Maurice Drew - RB – UCLA; Jaguars ground game would welcome this playmaker.

28 Carolina (10-4) - DeMeco Ryans - LB – Alabama; Panthers defense looking for another playmaker on this unit.

29. Denver (11-3) - Marcedes Lewis - TE - UCLA; Broncos offense looking for a threat in the deep middle seam.

30 Cincinnati (11-3) - Leonard Pope - TE - Georgia; The Bengals offense would love to add this emerging playmaker.

31 Seattle (12-2) - Laurence Maroney - RB – Minnesota; Seahawks have to prepare if Shaun Alexander moves on in FA.

32 Indianapolis (13-1) - A.J. Nicholson - LB - Florida State; Colts could still address defense early in this draft.

Dont really like this draft. I think we go for D'Brick and I doubt we have the # 1 pick...

I'm not impressed. Why would SF pick Leinart when they just drafted Alex Smith #1 overall? How does the Louisville back get ahead of Maroney, Drew, and Deangelo Williams? And I dont see the Ravens getting yet another linebacker when they dont have much of an offense. Just my opinion on this of course...

This is an interesting look at the draft. It is strictly BPA for the most part, has nothing to really due with need. It is a different take, that is unlikely to happen, but as of right now anything can happen so. Nice post Beerlover, crack a cold one for yourself.

I don't know how this guy is considered a draft guru with this kind of predictions and I see several things that I disagree with:
1) The order of his picks is not correct based on current standings and strength of schedule. (1. Houston, 2. SF, 3. GB, 4/5 NYJets/NO, 6. Arizona, 7. Tennessee, 8/9 Buff/Oak, 10. Detroit...)
2) Why would the 49ers take Leinart when they just drafted Alex Smith, even though some doubts are surfacing about Smith.
3) Michael Bush in the 1st round? I had never even heard him mentioned in the 2nd round.
4) With all their offensive struggles I think the Ravens would look for help there, not add another LB to an already-deep crew.
5) I don't think the Steelers would take a RB in the 1st round.
6) I am pretty sure the Seahawks will lock Shaun Alexander down to a nice deal and not have to look for another RB.

I'm sure I could find more things in here that I disagree with but I'll keep it at 6 for now. I don't know where all these "experts" come up with these kinds of predictions and whether they actually think they will happen or are just looking to create some kind of sensationalized article to gather attention. Most of these "experts" mock drafts turn up very wrong on draft day, so I don't really listen to these very closely at all.

as of now like i posted in the other mock we have too many other needs we wont take Bush unless we upgrade the O-line BEFORE the draft.

1) The order of his picks is not correct based on current standings and strength of schedule. (1. Houston, 2. SF, 3. GB, 4/5 NYJets/NO, 6. Arizona, 7. Tennessee, 8/9 Buff/Oak, 10. Detroit...) try and not focus on order focus on need and ability to fill said need.
2) Why would the 49ers take Leinart when they just drafted Alex Smith, even though some doubts are surfacing about Smith. they would have drafted Leinart over Smith if Matt had come out last year & after Bush is the most treasured commodity.
3) Michael Bush in the 1st round? I had never even heard him mentioned in the 2nd round. one reason is that most paid services do not list Juniors in their Mock Drafts (they'll seperate the Jr. class) we'll know for sure in about three weeks, but I'm sure he has sources, otherwise as you suggested he is trying to sensationalize & just be the first one to do it.
4) With all their offensive struggles I think the Ravens would look for help there, not add another LB to an already-deep crew. I would take Winston myself but maybe Ray will never be the same or all they understand is defense.
5) I don't think the Steelers would take a RB in the 1st round. The wheels on the Bus will have to come off someday, LenDale White may very well become the Freightliner.
6) I am pretty sure the Seahawks will lock Shaun Alexander down to a nice deal and not have to look for another RB. your probably right but at what cost? and to have Maroney slip to them would be even that much more tempting not to mention add some leverage in contract talks.

I'm sure I could find more things in here that I disagree with but I'll keep it at 6 for now. No, I'm going to pile on as well.

1. SF takes QBs with the first and second picks in consecutive drafts? That'd be worse than Detroit drafting WRs three years in a row.

2. Jimmy Williams, Rod Wright, Ahmad Brooks, Michael Bush and Maurice Drew would all be considered reaches if they were taken where he has them.

3. Philadelphia takes Bush because they need to improve their running game when DeAngelo Williams (best RB in the draft, IMO) is still on the board?

4. Pittsburgh does have a couple of aging RBs. But has nobody noticed what Willie Parker (1,067 yards on 229 carries) is doing this year? White would be a good pick but I think they could do better.

And yeah, what everybody else has said so far.

1. SF takes QBs with the first and second picks in consecutive drafts? That'd be worse than Detroit drafting WRs three years in a row. maybe they should have drafted two QB's in a row, then Big Ben would be in Detroit instead of Pittsburgh.
2. Jimmy Williams, Rod Wright, Ahmad Brooks, Michael Bush and Maurice Drew would all be considered reaches if they were taken where he has them. I'm the first to admit this may be Franks way to get in front of the pack I'm just gonna stick with the "Junior Factor" while you don't have to use this many Juniors in your Mock Drafts it just shows how unpredictable the actual draft has become due to early entrys not to mention eventual trades.

3. Philadelphia takes Bush because they need to improve their running game when DeAngelo Williams (best RB in the draft, IMO) is still on the board? I agree but maybe it has something to do with the make-up of the teams and the smash mouth style verses more play action.
4. Pittsburgh does have a couple of aging RBs. But has nobody noticed what Willie Parker (1,067 yards on 229 carries) is doing this year? White would be a good pick but I think they could do better. I really hope they don't get White because I would hate to think about trying to stop that two headed monster, while Parker is no Bush he does offer the change of pace combined with a natual power back that would be scary.
