During his long life in football, Athens native Frank Bush has been fortunate to spent a lot of time around a virtual Who's Who of the coaching profession.

As a linebacker during his college days at North Carolina State, Monte Kiffin was his head coach and Pete Carroll was defensive coordinator. During his short professional career with the Houston Oilers, Jerry Glanville was among Bush's coaches.

For nearly two decades, Bush has worked as a scout and coach in the NFL under the likes of Mike Shanahan, Dennis Green and Gary Kubiak.

But for Bush, who in January was named defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans, the coach who may have made the biggest impact on him can be found here in Athens.

As a Clarke Central graduate -Class of 1981 - Bush's gridiron education began under the watchful eye of the legendary Billy Henderson, who between 1973 and1995 led the Gladiators to nearly 300 victories, seven championship final appearances and three state crowns, two of which (1977, 1979) were captured in perfect seasons when Bush was on the team.

And he's once again united with a former Clarke Central standout, this time cornerback Dunta Robinson.

"We've put the franchise tag on Dunta so he's frozen for a year," said Bush, adding Robinson is the first Texan to ever be so designated. "If the people of Athens knew what he meant to our team, they'd be really proud. He's resilient, aggressive and there's no fluff about him. He's the toughest player on our team and it all started here at Clarke Central. I see him having a huge season and we've got big plans for him."

Bush also has big plans that becoming an NFL coordinator may one day help facilitate - becoming a head coach.
