Foxsports.com LB Rankings

I don't see how they could rate us any differently...we are loaded with tweeners, Greenwood is a fast Jay Foreman and we have nothing but mediocre or unproven players at the sam. Ryans is our saving grace (on spec right now to boot) to give this position group at least a player to build around in the next two years.

This will likely get moved to the NFL Forum, but once again the talking heads have us rated pretty low. At least it seems there is no were to go but up for us. Enjoy the article.

29. Texans
The Texans have been a 3-4 team since their inception, but they've never had four good linebackers to rub together. New coordinator Richard Smith is switching to the 4-3; now, he just needs to find three lukewarm bodies. Marlon Greenwood made 112 tackles last year, but his average play occurred 6.8 yards downfield. Free agent Sam Cowart isn't toast yet, but the butter is on the counter. Kailee Wong, Shantee Orr, and rookie DeMeco Ryans will battle for the Sam position. Many of the bench players are 3-4 specialists who will get cut if they can't fit the new scheme.

29th? Only Colts, 49ers, and Saints behind us.

I'm thinking this is quote of the day.

We all know about Ryans. And shouldn't expect much from Greenwood in terms of big plays.

My sleeper this year is Orr. He seems to be the best "playmaking" LB on the roster.

I agree,

I'm hoping Greenwood goes to the bench!:tomato: ... jk, I'm giving all of our players a fresh start, even "Give up 6 yards" Greenwood, I'm hoping he'll thrive back in his normal position.

For once, I believe this more accurate than the other rating that have been given to the texans, right now, our LBs are pretty lackluster. Who knows how they'll perform in the 4-3 though.

Ranking seems pretty reasonable as far as the Texans go. Scheme, though, will dictate a lot as to whether the unit shows any real improvement. Greenwood is definitely a 4-3 linebacker--but even then, will he be noticeably better?

Bottom line is you guys have a lot to prove this year (like you arent really a 2-14 team) so you will be ranked low in everything, naturally.

I am going to agree with Vinny. We don't have a real OLB that fit into the 43 scheme. Greenwood I thought played 43 in Miami but I am not a 100%. Even so, after that who do we have? Orr, I don't believe, has played OLB in the 43 and our depth at backer is critical.

The way I see it Richard Smith is going to have to blitz just out of necessity. You can drop Peek and Babin back to OLB and go with Weever, Smith, Payne/TJ, and Williams. I wouldn't do that is pass formations b/c we have all witnessed Babin's and Peek's cover abilities. In fact we may even see more of the 34 then Smith would like.

With Rainer lost for the year Polk is really going to have to step up and I am truly pulling for Orr. I liked Orr in the 34 and thought he played above average so I am hoping for a bust out year in the 43. I would like to see him lined up over Williams on blitzing situations instead of Greenwood. Greenwood may be fast but lacks technique on beating offensive linemen.

One thing is for sure though, our goal-line package should be almost unbeatable.

Another genius take. How do you not get booted from this board?

Because that wasn't an insult. The 2-14 comment wasn't sarcasm, i was stating that the Texans arent a 2-14 team and you need to prove it before you get rated high in anything....

Ya think???

Haven't you posted that same comment on every ranking-related thread?

I hate to admit it but he has a point.

Greenwood played three years at Sam and one at Will in Miami.

During that time period the Dolphins were ranked 8th (2004), 10th (2003), 3rd (2002) and 5th (2001) in total defense. Not saying he was in anyway responsible for those rankings or will lift a D, just that was a piece of some pretty good D's.

We could have easily been 5-11, Mr. Titan. The fact is that it is not that we had bad players last year, we just didnt have a system to implement their talents. Kubiak will help with that.

We have talent at LB, especially with Ryans here now. I truely think he will step up and be the leader on this defense.

If so, we could tear them up with all the short stuff over the middle, etc. And if they dare cheat up with their DB's, Andre and Eric will have a field day down the field.

Manning and company may not spend much time on the field against us this year, and (dare I say it?) we win both games!:francis:

If you think about it, it would almost have worked out worse for you guys to go 5-11. You wouldn't have Mario (you would have picked like 5th or 6th) and you wouldn't have Demeco. I've always said that if you are one of the worst teams in the league you might as well have the worst record so you get the best draft pick. I'm glad as hell we (the Titans) didn't go 5-11 or 6-10 or we might not have gotten Vince.............

I don't know about two wins, but the Colts are definitely engaged in an interesting experiment this year with a very small front 7 moving Mathis to full time DE and three LB's at 230 lbs or less. Will be interesting to see how well they stop the run.

Oh, I agree completely. Also, if we hadn't gone 2-14 we may not have lost Dum Capers. Fortunately the "we are new to this NFL thing" era of Texans football has ended, and we are making progress.

More and more teams are gearing to the run as defenses get lighter to combat the short passing game. I'm thinking the Colts have peaked and will be in a bit of a decline myself.

I've been saying that all pre-season and have taken some flack for it :hunter:

In which Houston will win the crown between the two.:bananasplit:

I also think the Colts will miss Edge alot more than they think esp when it comes to teams sitting in nickel and dimes waiting to pick off Peyton and knowing they can bring up 8 in the box on the option run and stop him like that. The play action will be the key as always for Peyton - will other teams buy it with a rookie RB or will they just bull blitz.

I also think the Colts will miss Edge's blocking on Mannings blind side alot. I'm sure Peyton will have some second thoughts after the first few times he's getting knocked around in the backfield.

I cant wait till we play the Colts and the first time Mario gets backfield in arms reach of Peyton and how he reacts after then. :fireball: :francis: :crutch:
