Fox Sports 7-Round Mock Draft

I'm thinking "wtf"? Why are we taking 3 corners? Are we trying to break records for young secondaries?

I like us addressing pass rush early, and then Aaron Williams is a good pickup in the second especially if you think he can play FS. After that, I am not really feeling any of those picks except Sione Fua, who shouldn't be available in the 6th round should he?

i wouldnt mind the first three picks. Smith has great potential and could be a very solid player. Williams could be a solid FS/CB im not sure which one hes is best fit for. Also provides some insurance if Quin doesnt work out at FS. and House would be a very good nickel CB starting off and has the potential to be a great #2 CB

Because like most mocks they think "well they were horrible against the pass so lets give them 3 or 4 CB's to fix it". :strangle:

I like it. I would have probably taken Phil Taylor in the 2nd. Or keep Aaron Williams and take a NT in the 3rd.

It's Cherry Pickin' Time.

#1 Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue. Proven, Productive Pass rusher. Alliteration for the win.

#2 Aaron Williams, Texas. As a safety, I truly believe this is our BIGGEST need.

#3 Sam Acho, Texas. Why not double up on the OLB, not like we have a sure thing there on the roster currently.

#4 Casey Mathews, Oregon. No one really stands out around this pick and you never know what you will get with Cush and Ryans after last year.

#5 Ian Williams, Notre Dame. At worst a rotational player for the nose spot.

#6 Sione Fua, Stanford. If you can't have quality, try quantity at a spot.

#7 Owen Maricic, Standford. Leach and Ryans insurance.

#7 Mistral Raymond, South Florida. Safety project.

If Smith comes though and is the player Phillips thinks he is. Then this is a very good mock.

Williams has the size and tackling ability to play either S position. I really think he will be an all=pro S someday.

House is my 2nd favorite CB in this draft. He will be better than Jackson (IMHO) Loose hips.

Bair has long arms and plays with good leverage, he needs to get stronger and add some weight. Great developmental 5 tech.

Fua probably wont be there, but he's going to add weight he's tough as nails and a high effort guy. The anti OkOye

OK, I'll put my mock here based on the players available in the fox mock.

11) Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska - If the Texans are willing to trade up for Peterson, they'll be willing to take Prince at #11. Amukamara is more of a sure thing than Aldon Smith. And I don't trust the Texans finding a solid CB in free agency.

42) Justin Houston OLB Georgia - I don't get the noise regarding Houston as unfit for the 3-4 OLB spot. He played 3-4 OLB in college. He's a pass rusher. Duh. I can't believe he's still on the board at #42, but he's a no brainer BPA, besides a need pick.

73) Jerrell Powe NT Mississippi - He's not pretty. But, there's nothing pretty about line play in the NFL. This wide body can do the dirty work. Something the current Texans linemen don't do.

105) Quinton Carter SS Oklahoma - Carter's played everywhere in the secondary for Bob Stoops. Wade doesn't want an in the box SS, so Carter could be a fit here. An eagle scout character guy who fits the Texans M.O. to a tee.

138) Derek Newton OT Arkansas State - Small college star with good computer numbers. Just looks like a Smithiak draft pick.

178) Mark Herzlich LB Boston College - Cancer survivor who could move closer to his 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year form with another year in the weight room. Has the versatility to play just about anywhere in the 3-4.

215) David Carter DL UCLA - Played well for Wade Phillips in the Shrine game. College DT who projects as a NFL 5 technique DE.

256) Jerrod Johnson QB Texas A&M - Can't we just mail this pick in? Johnson was a decent pro prospect prior to his 2010 injury marred season. Mike Sherman vouches for Jerrod and that's good enough for Kubiak.

1. Cameron Jordan, DE, California
2. Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor
3. Sam Acho, OLB, Texas
4. Quinton Carter, FS, Oklahoma
5. DeMarcus Van Dyke, CB Miami
6. Kristofer O’Dowd, C, USC
7. Mike Mohamed, ILB, California
7. Jerrod Johnson, QB, Texas A&M

That it is!

1. DE Cameron Jordan, Cal - Ton of snaps and will become bookend with Mario.
2. OLB Brooks Reed, Arizona - Starting OLB.
3. CB Davon House, New Mexico St. - Great upside, sit behind Jackson and FA.
4. ILB/OLB Chris Carter, Fresno St. - May end up starting Inside this year.
5. WR Ronald Johnson, USC - WR depth to groom.
6. C/G Kristofer O'Dowd, USC - Backup C/G depth, practice squad till he gets stronger.
7a. NT Chris Neild, West Virginia - Wade gets a NT to work with.
7b. NT Lolomana Mikaele, Arizona - Wade gets another NT to work with.

UDFA - QB Jerrod Johnson, Texas ATM - If he's there to be Mr. Irrelevant, he'll be available as an undrafted free agent. Normally I fully support getting the guy you want with a late pick, but in JJ's case I think between he, Sherman and his father... he would sign with Kubiak and the Texans anyways.

That fox sports 7 round mock is the nightmare of all mock drafts..Aldon Smith & Davon House. Shoot me right now.

4. Greg Romeus, DE, Pittsburgh
5. Derek Newton, OT, Arkansas State
6. Dion Lewis, RB, Pittsburgh

You do realise that Houston tested positive at the combine... no way we draft him now.

Your draft has too much offense for my taste. Not saying it won't happen but I wouldn't do it.

Didn't know and don't really care.

1 RB, a TE with the last pick, and an OT to be the third OT if Butler leaves. That's too much O?

Really like your first 4 if they are there, Acho can also play MLB imo opinion to back up Ryan. I think Fua could gain a few pounds in NFL

Personally, I don't see Jordan or Watt beating out Smith until late in season if then. Either will be great depth and future starter but don't we need an immediate impact player in first? Reed, Carter & O'dowd are good picks but I have the center/guard going higher. I'm not a fan of House but he could eventually earn a role. I'd rather pt my cookies in McManis' basket.

Sweet!! Jordan 10 year starter by late season if not sooner. Taylor if there is a steal & many year starter especially if rotated with another nose. Acho can play OLB or ILB and is known for his smarts off and on field. Great character. I think Carter will be better FS than A Williams & maybe better than D. Williams. O'Dowd much higher on my board but if there would be steal of the draft & could beat out Myers by end of season.
Jerrod the throwen Aggie could be perfect back up for Schaub and cheaper as a draft pick than an udfa. If the draft went this way, it might just end up being the best draft ever for Texans.
