Flacco got paid

That's redonk!

But I just had a nice chuckle in a text message thanks to autocorrect about this very subject. I'll see if I can upload.

Above average QB gettin paid like a top 3 guy. I understand that QB's are a premium in this league and the guy just had a hell of a run in the post-season but I think this will mark the downfall of Baltimore. The defense is getting old and they just shelled out a huge chunk of their cap space for a guy that in my opinion is not elite.

This is great news for every other team in the AFC. Baltimore just wrecked their cap for the next 4-6 years. I'm happy with that.

Anyone have a list of their pending free agents. No way they resign their top guys after that stunt. Boldin bailed out flacco 9 times out of 10.

Yep.

Sad thing is, they let Cam Cameron hold Flacco back for so long. I'm sure Cam brought Joe up to speed early on, but it seems obvious it wasn't working these last 2/3 years. It'll be interesting to see a full season w/o Cam.

**Interesting side note to this: One of those salary cap casualties could be All-Pro fullback Vonta Leach, who is regarded by pundits and his peers as the NFL’s best at his position...

He was always going to get paid after the Superbowl, but that boy just got PAID.

Absolutely nuts money for a guy who had questionmarks going into January.

6 years, in excess of 120 million...bit more than Brees according to Schefter

Congrats to Flacco, he will be the sole reason the Ravens will have to gut the team to pay him....

Enjoy that Championship, last one you are gonna see for a while while you are rebuilding through the draft...

I don't put flacco in Brady Bree's or mannings class but he really delivered during money time. If they get another ring with him it'll be worth it. Well just have to wait and see.

I'm still on the fence about this.

Peyton only has one ring. Eli has two & Eli is no where near the QB Peyton is.

Tom Brady won three SBs before he became the QB that he is now. The better he got, the worse his team got. & he hasn't won a Super Bowl since.

I have no doubt that Flacco will continue to develop into a QB worthy of that contract & will most likely earn an even bigger deal in the future. But if he wins another Super Bowl, it will be because his team got better as well.

True either way I wish It was a situation the texans were in.

Way to much money to pay Flacco.

I'll be laughing at all of the "Flacco has become elite" talk by mid season next year. People are extremely fickle, and Flacco has become way overrated.

It's all relative.

Matt got a quickie after week 1 and it reflects his standing with the ownership.

Flacco got a ton of money after the Super Bowl because...well, he helped them win the damn Super Bowl.

Therefore, it's all relative. Only the dollar amounts are different. Both Schaub and Flacco could end up being QBs who had deep trust from their ownership and then possibly end up hitting the curb after a few bad seasons.

The only difference is one guy won a SB title and got a lot of money, the other guy won a playoff game and has "the potential to get his team to the SB."

It's all relative. Except for that huge ass ring he'll get for the SB win.

That's the first thing I thought. The Ravens FO has done a good job until now. This is their first big screw up.

Yep Flacco should send Rahim Moore some cash
Or at least to the DB coach that got fired.

Flacco was going to get a big contract, anyway. He would have been the most sought after QB on the market, Super Bowl win or not. Flacco really responded to the coaching change, and looked like a much more confident QB. His postseason was superb. Flacco is the best player on the Ravens now. This contract should not come as a surprise.

$29 Million signing bonus, $52 Million guaranteed (some might be only for injury), $51 Million in cash in first two years, $62 Million in cash in the first three year, and a $6.8 Million cap hit for 2013.

Several different sources on this, but here's one that's got most of the info.

whuuuuuttttt!!??

Yep!
As La Canfora pointed out, the cap hit to the Ravens in the first year of Flacco's deal is almost unfathomably team-friendly. In 2013, Flacco's cap number will be about $6.8 million, which makes his number only the fifth-biggest hit (!) to the team.

But with a $33 Million (over and above the signing bonus) coming in the first three years, you know years two and three are doozys!

This makes no sense. $29 mil prorated over 6 years is $4.83 mil per year. Then they say he will be paid $51 mil in the first two years. So that is $22 mil on top of the signing bonus. So $1.97 of that goes on top of the prorated signing bonus to make $6.8 cap this year. That leaves $20.03 plus $4.83 for a $24.86 mil cap hit next year. That doesn't seem like a good structure.

Jab at the Ravens by Mr. Kraft?

"I was just trying to stay ahead of the curve. If we were going to have to pay him elite-quarterback money and have elite-quarterback cap numbers, I just didn't think we would be able to build a team. We don't want to have a team where we're paying 18 to 20 percent of the cap to one player.

That's why the Patriots are always in contention for a championship.

The Lee Evans deal comes to mind. Didn't you guys pay him like 8 million for that one year? He was useless.

When he was acquired from the Buffalo Bills, Evans had two years and over $7.5 million remaining on his contract; Evans' $3.275 million base salary was reduced to $810,000, with the Ravens giving the 30-year-old receiver a $2.465 million signing bonus that is prorated over the next two seasons. Evans had a $100,000 "likely to be earned incentive" for this season, which has been increased to $150,000 and is tied to his average yards per reception. =he never saw this as he was injured for most of the season- he only had 4 receptions going into the playoffs.

He was cut after the season and only cost us about 4 million.

This might come back to bite them in the future

Andrew Brandt‏@adbrandt

With a $29M signing bonus, Ravens have pushed out $23.2M of Cap into future years. Created short-term room to operate.

Andrew Brandt‏@adbrandt

Seeing reports of Flacco details: $30M in 2013, $1M salary and $29M bonus, prorated at $5.8M for Cap each year. Cap # of $6.8M.

Essentially its a three year deal- Flacco will earn $51 million over the first two years and $62 million over the first three.

Then it will be time to re-negotiate because of the $29 mill cap number...$18 mill salary- most likely, if he is performing at a high level, it will all be converted to a Huge Signing Bonus with 1-2 maybe 3 mill per year salary....and extension of 3 more years....
