First Woman Kicker in the NFL?

I would rather have had Kathy Ireland make it back in the day, but this works too.

I saw the video of her kicking...it's a joke. Nowhere near the kind of leg one would need. Not even close.

VIDEO

In none of her interviews would she ever answer the question, "How long is the kick you have ever made?".................hey, Rick, a perfect pick to hand Marciano to develop!:hankpalm:

She can kick me between my uprights.

Wait

I think what you meant was 'she can stretch out for my pylon'.

Assuming she could ever play football I'd hate to see her get crushed the way the one kicker was demolished by the late Sean Taylor.

And she's done...

Lauren Silberman's NFL tryout has lasted all of two kicks, neither of which traveled 20 yards.

She left the New York Jets' practice field after injuring her quadriceps. She tried two kickoffs, the first going 19 yards and the second about 13 yards. She then asked to see a trainer.

I have a horse that can kick the ball 65 yards. He goes by Gus. Well be waiting for our tryout. Right now he's focused on his training and improving his 40 time at PLEX.

There is good news for you my friend!
Apparently, anyone can participate - if he or she (or Gus the donkey) is willing to pay $275. Sure, the NFL claims that “[a]pplicants must meet NFL eligibility rules and be able to perform at a high skill level” and that “[t]he NFL reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject any applicant it determines to be unqualified or unfit to compete.” But those are just words on paper.

(And just for the record, both CT2 and PFT are technically incorrect - Gus is a mule.)

I dunno, Mo's legs aren't that bad.

"Aren't that bad" =/= NFL caliber

The only way that Mo Isom could make it on an NFL sideline is if she is willing to put on some hot pants and shake some pom-poms.

Your 15 minutes are up Lauren Silberman!

This^^^^^^^^^^!! Although I truly think this is just another media blitz of over sensationalism, trying to make something out of nothing!! Should never have been news in the first place. JMO!!

Even "if" she had a strong leg and even "if" she could kick the ball in the endzone, she would still never make it on a team. If she gets hit hard on a kick return, she could be seriously injured or even killed.

I think the whole thing was a publicity stunt and here we are talking about it.

Good article here, not pulling any punches.

On a side note, I didn't know anybody can try out for NFL for $275

Ouch. Tough, but good, article.

What got me was this little nugget:

Those women worked and they dedicated themselves. Injured or not, Silberman obviously hasn't yet. To her fellow competitors' credit, they didn't titter behind their hands and they didn't ostracize her. One helped her figure out how to use a kicking tee, another how many steps she needed to take to line up for a kickoff.

WTF?? She didn't even know how to use a freakin' kicking tee or the basic mechanics for a kick off???! Why is this even a story??? She's not even serious enough about it to practice. Seriously pathetic waste of time.

Excellent on-sides kick!

No, actually that's the worst kind of onside kick you can make. If the ball doesn't touch the ground, the other team can call a fair catch, which is why you always see onside kicks bounce of the ground immediately after the kicker makes contact. So she couldn't even get that right either...

/yes I know you were kidding...

at least Mo knew how to do all this and nailed kicks from 40 yards

yeah, in a no pressure situation, good I guess.

But the first solid hit from an NFL special teams player would most likely be her last. And there is no doubt that she would be targeted at the first available opportunity. The fairy tale would come to a quick, and brutal, end.

I wasn't advocating her getting a legitimate shot, fwiw

Hits on the kicker are a rarity. Had homegirl made it she would have had my UTMOST respect especially if she had taken and shaken off a couple of hits.

yep, they are a rarity.

But an even more rarity is a chick playing in the NFL. ;)

I agree with you. However, I think some special teams player would target her at some point just to test her toughness. And sorry, if a dude like Bryan Braman were to knock the piss out of Mo Isom, I do not think she gets up quickly.
