Kinda sounds like ole McClain is setting himself up to look good either way it goes. There were a whole lot of "ifs" in that piece.

I mean he obviously thinks Bush is the better choice but if the Texans were to select Vince ...I smell a big ole fat stinkin "I Told Ya So" coming from McClain!

Here's what gets me about the whole thing; Let's say Reggie Bush comes in here and does the fool, 2000 All-purpose yard seasons, team MVPs, and Pro Bowls. I find it unsettling that he could be that good, and in 5-7 years be told to walk by management due to the money he would be owed, a la Edgerrin James. If a Superbowl hasn't been won by then, will the whole pick seem like a bust? I think it is fair to say that Bush's game is built on being the fastest, quickest guy on the field, once that goes, what do we expect from Reggie? I don't know; unless he morphs into Curtis Martin, I just don't envision him as a long term productive back.

Who sees the Texans this way; if Moulds is signed and Bush drafted, the Texans have a championship quality offense (on paper), therefore unless the offense is putting up 30 a game, losing (not making the playoffs) will be put on the O (Carr). Are expectations that high already?

It all depends on the situation.

If we are doing well..on the verge of greatness.. players are more willing to restructure and help the team get over the hump. And FAs are more likely to sign with us for less.

It evens out..you just have to get the best players you can, and worry about "5 years down the road" when it comes.

Your point about Reggie Bush's "perceived" worth brings an excellent point. One that, not only had I not previously considered, but I haven't heard anyone else point out.
He just seems to be faster and more elusive than everyone else on the field and thereby able to do some phenomenal things. When, and if, that ability fades (ala Deion Sanders) what then is his worth to the team? Is he a long-term liability?

Another thing is, even though he has that ability ...the field of the players that also have it is widening. I mean look at this year's combine in particular ...we just saw A.J. Hawk (LB) run 4.3 ...we saw a 6'5" 253 lb Vernon Davis run a 4.38 ...we're seeing more and more QBs running sub 4.5 40s ...Reggie McNeal also ran a 4.3

So, who knows what kind of long-term value Reggie Bush will have if his claim to fame is his speed. And THAT, I think, will be all the scouts are looking for at his Pro Day. He might as well run the 40 and go home.
