FCS Playoffs (...and the 2012 SHSU Bearkats)

AnthonyE

Lurker
So, I figured I'd start up another thread like last year to raise awareness.

The Sam Houston State Bearkats finished the year #5 in the FCS and have advanced to the Quarter Finals of the FCS playoffs. I know there are some SHSU alum and fans out there on the board, so I thought I'd let you guys know that...

Tonight at 7PM, the Sam Houston State Bearkats will play @ Montana State on ESPN2.

This is a quarterfinal rematch from last year, where the Kats demolished MTSU in Huntsville. This time, the game will be played in Montana, in sub 20 degree weather. Snow is in the forcast, so don't miss this one!

Hope you guys tune in, it'll be a good one! Eat 'em up Kats!

Y'all have a loud bunch of fans. I heard them plenty (well, I heard the folks in the 3rd deck of the Zone stands) in Kyle Field when y'all came on down. :) Hope you guys do great!

Thanks! I wish I could have been one of those fans. I missed the game because I had a major project due at school. I wish we could be loud when we're at home, though.

Final score was 34-16 in case people were wondering.

On to the semis!

Kats looking tough, hope they can bring home the Ship this season, Damn i wish they could move to a FBS school

FCS Semifinals: SHSU @ EWU at 3PM on ESPNU.

Official Houston Watch Party:
On The Rox Sports Bar on Jones Rd.

One more win and we're back to the NC game. We're favored by 2 points on the road.

Touchdown Eastern Washington

45-42 SHSU with 3:04 left. Wow! Talk about a hefty comeback! 42 points in the second half for EWU!

Go Kats!

Do not wish.

For starters they are playing for a national title in January. Not the NoOneGivesACrap.Com bowl.

This seems to be a common argument. But if you notice during the game, they kept shoving highlights of Some Other Who Gives a Crap Bowl down our throats. Somehow, I figure they weren't showing their feed our highlights, though. Sad thing is, people do care. You see more Bowl Pickems than FCS Bracket competitions.

its my home town, i have always hoped that. one day they will. the school only continues to grow.

Up to over 18k enrollment now. I think when I started going there it was at 12k. We're growing, our academic status is growing (we're making steps to get a higher classification), we had a top 25 baseball team last year and quickly become an FCS powerhouse. If we want to be recognized as a prominent school in the next 25 years, we'll need to make the jump to FBS and a better athletic conference. The Southland Conference is widely considered one of the weakest conferences in FCS and it's only getting weaker. Time to jump ship IMO.

there was talk a couple of seasons ago about SHSU moving up but their downfall was football game attendance.

Not only that, but SHSU is the No. 1 school in the country to work for. More and more professors are coming here because of how convenient it is to work there. Anthony, I don't know if you live on campus anymore, but we just voted to not only expand the Health Center to a 2 story facility, we also voted to expand the LSC as well.

Sam Houston is no longer the best kept secret in Texas. While it still remains an excellent school for CJ majors and Education majors like myself, the school is expanding in other subjects as well. Performing Arts are a big deal now, and the Business school is getting some recognition as well. Sam is growing at a very fast pace, and although I'd personally hate to see this, It would not surprise me if Sam took the bullet and moved up to the level of other big schools in the state. Huntsville itself is growing, and in the next few years, it could present an opportunity to become a really awesome college town. Sam Houston already has a ton of tradition and History. I feel it already has the chips to at least play on a bigger level. We just need more students coming in, and coming to games. We have shown that when the team is good, our fans can be a supportive as the fans of an SEC team, and even heckle as good as them too.

Aside from all of that, I have never screamed louder at a play when Flanders ran for the first down to Ice the game.

I am happy that Sam gets another shot. I just hope they bring home the gold this time around.

i think it will happen within the next 5 years. Prob go to a FBS conference like C-USA or something. There is def room to upgrade the stadium which is what will have to happen before they would allow SHSU to move up though.

Actually, I didn't notice.

Probably because I don't give a crap about the WhoGivesACrap.com bowl.

Which, really, its all moot. With our pathetic attendance, the best we'd hope for would be Sun Belt. Is that REALLY going to be better for Sam football?

I dont see how "come to Sam and maybe play in a bowl no one will watch or attend" is a better pitch than "come to Sam and play for a national title."

If Sam is able to become a consistent winner and actually sale out Bowers every not and then, then maybe this is a discussion than can be had in like...a decade.

Edit: I don't mean any of that to sound harsh. We're all on the same side at the end of the day. We want to the best for Sam football. I'm just having too much fun with Sam being relavent at football for once, and don't want to turn that loose.
