Eugene Wilson

swtbound07

Jackass of Day!
Is not an NFL caliber free safety. If he misses one more tackle, he'll get a free one his next game. Pathetic. We've never had a real free safety, and its going to continue to cost us.

You're right. The man needs a bus ticket home. Unfortunately we got nothing to replace him with. Our only hope is that somebody really, really deep at the position cuts a FS.

Ok, it's really no hope at all.

C'mon...I am not loving this either, but is it really that bad? We don't look any worse than we did last year, and we are missing Cushing and Dunta. The first play of the game was unsettling, but I thought the D showed flashes.

If your asking this question, you didn't watch the game. He whiffed on more tackles then i've ever seen. He got toasted like he was invoking the spirits of phillip buchanon. He was a detriment and directly led to 14 points for the vikings. What the hell else do you want?

Yeah...I watched the game. I saw at least five other guys look extremely bad on the first run. I don't think it is fair to put that entire play on him...at all.

I'm frustrated with the way we played, too. If it is OK with everyone, I am not going to give up on the team in the third pre-season game.

If your not blaming your SAFETY for being the last line of defense on a 75 yard gain, who would you like to blame?

You do whatever you like. I'm not quitting on my team. Im frustrated at the elephant in the room with teh giant hole in him that lets teams score points against us. If thats okay with you, that is.

To answer your question, I just pretty much don't want to be attacked for expressing my opinion.

Otherwise, I am good.

id really also like an explanation on how cushing and dunta are going to make eugene wilson not suck...you know, given that he is kinda the subject of this thread and all.

Thanks for your eloquent contribution. You've really helped me delve into the heart of our FS issues, and my perspective has changed entirely.

If you are going to blame anybody, blame Barber he took a terrible angle and he was the last line of defense. That was his fault, and the entire teams too.

BTW, still hate Barwin?

I don't blame THAT TD on Wilson, but I DO blame the one before the half on him. If he wants to OLE something, he should go to Mexico and be a bullfighter. THAT was his pathetic attempt at a tackle.

Agreed, it was a terrible play, but lets not make him the whipping boy solely on that play. It was a terrible tackle, but I don't think he would have pulled that one during the regular season.

Any particular line of thinking behind that?

Yup. Still do.

I certainly don't respect your opinions but I do respect how deeply you are committed to the hate of a few select players. We'll call it SWT's ****list. So who's on it? So far, that I have seen Connor "freaking" Barwin, Eugene Wilson and who else?

And you have WHAT to back that up with? There's an old adage about playing like you practice for a reason and not one about turning it on when you want to and kicking ass when it counts.

Is there an echo in here?

Hmm. Good question.

I'll just cover every sport for ya.

Reggie Bush
Rex Grossman
Carlos Beltran
Michelle Wie
Connor Barwin
Jason Babin
Eugene Wilson

Every UF Gator that ever lived

Dan Orlovsky fluctuates on from time to time, as does jacoby jones. Amobi Okoye is racing towards my list at breakneck speed.

I'll edit this post if I recall any others.

What about Duane Brown?

What about Duane Brown?

Meh. He whiffed on a couple of blocks, held a little bit, and pulled off of jared allen and let him put a major hit on schaub, but he also held his man frequently, got to the second level, and stood his ground most of the time. And Allen is a hell of a matchup. I think his ceiling is around 20th-25th best LT in the NFL, but I don't hate him for it.

I would have thought Okoye would have at least halted his downward momentum with a fairly solid performance today. CB and Eugene Wilson I don't agree with. Michelle Wie is terrible.

Okoye would be awesome if NFL teams did not in fact both run and pass the ball. Until we face an entirely shotgun passing offense, he's a liability. CB Barwin, or CB Beltran?

You just have a bad attitude. Take 2 aspirin, send a PM to C&D and ask for a prescription, drink a LOT and call someone who cares in the morning. LOL
Barwin is ROCKIN. Michelle Wie actually graduated Q School ( and finished nicely this weekend), but the rest can go to NFL hell or the Detroit Lions, their choice.

Eugene had one very bad play and it was on the second TD not the first. His pansy ass shove to knock the guy down was pathetic. Then again Wilson has a Super Bowl Ring and I will take the way he played last year compared to one preseason game. He is beter than CC Brown who I saw the other day looking like his usual self.

Are you a crackhead? Or just a crackerhead?

rewatch the game. Count the missed tackles. Its not just one play

On that second TD, I didn't get the jersey number at first and I thought what the hell is that old women doing in a Texans jersey down there. Did she have one to many Long Island Ice Teas and ran out from the stands to try and tackle this guy? That had to be one of the weakest ass attempts at a tackle I have ever seen by a so-called pro in my life.

Last year he was barely adequate but nothing to write home about. That was the worst of a bad night for him last night. He does have some coverage ability, but my God your safeties have to be able to hit and tackle and take proper angles and so forth. And Barber as a legit starter on a team with playoff aspirations is a freaking joke.

As a group, for the 8th freaking year in a row, the safeties on this team as a group are somewhere between obnoxiouely bad and a giant ceepool of baby diaherria.

Hey Rick Smith - when the *$%#$@@# are you going to get some &%$&@# freaking safeties who can actually play worth a ****? In the year 2092?

So you're saying you're not happy with our current safety? I just wanted to make sure......I don't think you're post was clear enough. :wild:

And Barber as a legit starter on a team with playoff aspirations is a freaking joke.

On the screen pass for a TD you'll notice that Barber is being dominated by one of the Vikings' WRs. He literally cannot get off the block. It was embarrassing. I believe it was Wade who was blocking him, but I could be wrong. You are right about the play of the safeties though.

Most have recognized the inferiority of our safeties since for ever. However, Smith and Kubiak have stated each year that both were satisfied with who they trotted out each Sunday. Demps backed into a pro bowl nomination while wearing an arm cast leading to hope that the next year he would be some better. He lost his job.

Texans drafted Brown to be LT and while not the best, he seems to fit the ZBS and the coaches like him. Positional need resolved for now. I wanted a DT this year but Smithiak opted for OLB and we have Cushing or we might have Cushing; that still needs to be seen. ANother area of desperate need was a power back and Brown may or may not be the guy. Looked good and then looked pretty bad last night 4 for 11 yds. I know, so did everyone else including Slaton 12 for 27; Super Slick Steve won us over last year. We needed at least one CB so we drafted two, franchised another and got Delthea (not sure of spelling as I have not seen his jersey on the field) and hoped to bring Molden back (yes, I know but he is on the roster). So to sum this up:

We still need a defensive tackle, a power running back and two corners. Reeves might come back with a season like last year post injury but he may not. We can hope but do not know. Bennett may be the opposite starter but has done little to impress me so far. Dunte? Whole other thread. Based on our history with Kubes and Smith, free safety will be way down the list. At least we got two picks in the 5th IF TJ plays well at San Diego.

WTH are you relying on your safeties to make tackles on an interior run? If you're relying on your safeties, you have way bigger problems than their tackling abilities. Peterson's run was off guard / tackle than his cut was towards the middle. How about our D-Linemen and Linebackers stop the play??

To put Peterson's run on one player is pretty short-sighted.

There was nothing wrong with Barber on that play, I don't think.
He was following the receiver from the other side.
He didn't get to engage his man until toward the end, when he finally shoved the guy out of bound.

It was just a good stop and go move by Taylor.
There wasn't much Wilson can do on that play.
He didn't want to fly past the guy and he didn't want to commit himself too early, opting to try to slow Taylor down.
The only play he could have made is a great play to save the tackle, and he didn't.
But it's a split of a second type of decision one had to make, and I don't expect the guys to be able to do that all the time.

Obviously, we all would like to have faster and/or bigger safeties like Taylor Mays, Eric Berry, or Morgan Burnett; maybe next year (!?!)

But really, it was Ryans' fault that allowed Taylor to score that TD.
Chester was his man, and Demeco just whiffed on his assignment.
To add insult to injury, he slowed down just a hair when Taylor made that stop and go move at the end, nullifying any chance to make a play.

Prop to Barwin for coming back all the way to try to make the tackle.
We need more guys who are fast and instinctive like that.

On the first TD, somebody needs to blame Shaun Cody for looking exactly like Okoye in the TD run by the Saints last week.
And Adibi missed his primary gap assignment.
Sure, the DBs still need to help contain the edge better; and we can use a better safety than Barber (but there wasn't much he can do in this play either).
