ESPN guys are ripping US

Geez. They said defenses don't win championship, points do and we just let 25-30 TDs a year go. They said he took games off too. I hope this comes through because if not Casserly will ride off the joke that he is and we just screwed the franchise and fans. As I said, I wanted to take the guy but I wanted extra picks to do it in moving down.

They're just mad Bush isn't going to NY. Points wins championships - guess so with all the rings Indy has (and no offense to Indy fans).

I'm so sick of the "defense win championships" phrase......Texans defense = a**.........God McNair and Casserly are so stupid.

They should be. You don't draft for need at one...you draft pure talent. Peppers was dominant on the field...Williams was a workout warrior who made most of his noise against a couple of teams. The Texans have always drafted ideal measurables and paid little attention to FOOTBALL players....who produce on the field. Williams, like Carr looks ideal....has ideal measurable for his position...but neither are highly instinctive or have great football savvy....this team cant see the forest for the trees.

wow, if we lose 25-30 TDs a year, we would have had like 40 -50 rushing TDs a year. That sounds a little high. That or they are completely discounting D.Davis and we have no running backs now.

Thats Micheal Irvin and he knows with the Cowboys tandem which the Texans could've had

Mathis/Moulds, Johnson, Carr, Bush
Irvin, Aikman, Smith.

Yes defenses win championships, but you have to score points also and we can't do that. Unless Mario is going to be scoring TD's then it's a wasted pick.

Vinny, we have been on opposite sides of the draft discussion for many months now - but on this, we are in total agreement!

irving thinks he was ready to have a 2000 yard season.

Bush average 10/8 yards a carry in college. Maybe he's talking about all purpose yards?

ESPN guy should rip us as the whole city of Houston is ripping the Texans with them. It's ridiculous what has just transpired within a day...

Now the ESPN guys are happy. They can praise Bush instead of being forced to talk about M.Williams. Amazing how bad some of the media can be. Tunnel vision anyone?

They should rip us. Reggie is a once in a lifetime player. He would have helped David Carr and everyone on offense.

Could not agree more!!This reminds me of the Cowboys when they got the bad rap after the Super Bowls. They went into the draft(not #1 of course) with the mindset to take a position and to take a "nice" person. So they got Greg Ellis in 1998 and he was nice but has been OK. This is alot more extreme but I think the Texans are gun shy. You don't take Mario unless you got more picks and moved down.

I love Irvin's candidness and he and Tom Jackson are right on.

You know what wins Championships? Teams do. If the Texans think Mario is best for the team, well we have to wait and see.

Well with Carr on his *** the whole game we can't exactly win games can we??

Good for Vince Young...I'm happy for him. I hope he can play in the NFL. I think he will prosper learning from someone like McNair.

Not just ESPN, but everyone is ripping us, as well they should. This franchise is now a laughing stock.

I heard all that garbage and the phantom 25 TDs. If Bush came here, he would have had limited touches with Davis here and wouldn't have had nearly that production -- especially since the Texans wouldn't have improved their bad situation in the other parts of the game. You just watch what happens in NO with Bush and McAllister there. It will be a mess and neither McAllister nor Bush will produce much. The result -- another poor season for the Saints.

Not everyone is ripping the pick. Only those folks who don't know much about football. Even Kiper said the pick wasn't bad.

So the majority of NFL teams don't know much about football? The majority of NFL teams had Bush rated higher than Williams. Just remember what you said when the Texans are scoring their usual 13 points per game and giving up 21 - 24 even with Mario.

I'm not saying they are right or wrong. As I said my opinion was I wanted him....just not at #1. As I have said all morning I think they are looking at Pitt, etc and thinking we don't need to score as much.

One of the best posts so far. Only one thing i'd like to add is that some of the fans can't see the forest for the trees either. In my mind, the #1 pick selections Carr/Williams should have been made in inverse years. If CC is of the opinion that defense wins championships, why didn't he pick the "franchise" DE when he had the chance to do so in 2002? This is a BS pick, period. Some of you can spin it any way you choose, I don't care. By the way, have any of you forgotten that CC did give Tennessee 3 picks for Jason Babin, whom most of you we're saying the same things that you are saying now about Williams. People don't let CC ride with this.

other than Chris Mortensen. They would have ripped the Texans if they took Reggie.....would have said they had too many other needs to draft a RB.....They would have ripped the Texans if they had traded the pick....many of the same arguments they are using for them picking Mario. In other words, they got their name BSPN for a reason.

Ugh...

Not everyone is ripping the pick

Yeah, McNair and Casserly.....there is no getting around that this is a stupid decision.......and yes it is stupid.....MW isn't even the best defensive player in this draft, and from what I understand at times he wasn't even the best player for his team last year..........this will scar the franchise for years to come.

ESPN can go _____ themselves. We are last in team rushing defense and 2nd to last in overall defense. That is all we should have to say no matter who Bush is, he wont see the damn field because our defense never comes off! Great pick keep it up and stick with your game plan. If Bush was not in this draft then we would have just made an incredible pick of need and ESPN would be saying great things so screw em!

This will definitely be a decision that Texans fans will debate and agonize over for years to come. The only thing that will alter perceptions will be Texans Ws on the scoreboard.

Even though I'll always support my team, I'm still in shock. I don't blame anyone for feeling the way they do. This is an epic decision.

So far with 18 picks, 12 are defensive players. Come second round not much year 1 impact talent will be worth waiting for. The RB's are falling maybe right into out laps too!

Who cares if we get a RB now? They let the best RB in the draft and potentially on the planet fall right out of their hands. I keep hearing people say RB wasn't a need, but now that we have passed on the best one I guess the powers that be think they can appease us by drafting a lesser RB now. Give me a break! DeAngelo Williams, Maroney, etc are all nice backs but they don't give you the options Bush did!

I'll keep this simple. This is the post of the day. Once again, he hits the nail squarely on the head. Well said!

Hey Porky, I was looking at your sig. Has GW planned a trip here?

How do you know if he is the best? Your opinion of him is what you read, hear and see. He did play on the best college team damn near of all-time. Dont you think whom ever the RB is is going to look pretty damn good behind that team. Dont make him out to be the saviour of any team until after he produces. Then we can say we should of could of. What if Mario turns into a monster stud and anchors our line for the next 10 years!

If Bush was not in this draft then we would have just made an incredible pick of need and ESPN would be saying great things so screw em!

I heard Charlie Casserly throw in that qualifier. I'm sure the Portland Trailblazers are saying, "geez, if Michael Jordan wasn't in the draft then people wouldn't be questioning our selection of Sam Bowie back in 1984." I can suppose anything and make it seem palatable. I can say that if it weren't for 31 teams we would have been the best team in the NFL last season. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ripping you. I'm ripping Casserly. This thing was mishandled from day one. The more they try to convince us this isn't about money the more they look foolish.

When you have the number one overall pick you select the best player on the board or you trade down. I'm sure a few teams may not have had Bush as the number one player, but I guarantee they would have traded down in that case.

When NO took him I didn't here anything getting ripped. They have 50 mill in their back and jumped right in line.

Actually the majority of NFL teams had Bush and Williams either as even or very slightly different. A few even had Williams higher. You would know this if you counted on anything more than the news and ESPN blurbs for your intel.

And for the last time, Michael Jordan wasn't Michael Jordan until he had finished over a decade in the NBA and won six championships. Even his basketball team was lousy until he got a real coach and a real supporting cast. Yes, that's right: Michael Jordan played basketball. Five guys on the court, not twenty-two on the field. The balls look different too. It's one thing to like Bush, it's another to make thoroughly irrelevant apples-to-oranges comparisons originated purely out of personal speculation.
