They are going down the list and saying who they think each team will take.

With Alex Barron and Mike Williams still on the board, they have us picking David Pollack, and had a lot of nice things to say about him too :).

Im glad the talking heads are starting to come around to our way of thinking.
 
I almost fell over when I heard that. Id be extremly disappointed if it went down like that. Pollack is a heck of a player, but he is nowhere near the level that Mike Williams is. Peek is atleast as good a pass defender as Pollack would be and as well as an equally as good a pass rusher so I dont see that as a big enough need to pass on a player who could end up being the best player to come out of this draft. Of course all of this is my opinion.

I'm not...That means we're more likely to take Barron at 13...Usually ehat happens is the opposite of what they think is going to happen...If we get Barron, it's going to be a long draft day/offseason/season...

Actually Merrill Hodge picked for the Texans. I thought for sure he'd pick a "factor back".
 
I'm with Merril Hoge on this one. Mike Williams will not be that good. He is a media creation. He could be the Reggie Williams of this draft. All hype, no substance. Who would you trust as talent evaluator; Merril Hoge or Kiper.
 
Well I'm going to go with neither Hodge or Kiper as talent evaluators. There is a reason they're both "analysts", and not working in an NFL teams draft room right now.
 
i'd still go with Mike Williams, lets not forget he had 2 very productive years, he would easily be the BPA and cause bradford came back for just 1 yr for 800k it is a realistic pick.


and if we decided to trade, we could probably get a 2nd and a 3rd to move down a few spots because williams value is so high.

Williams has some good stats, I will admit, but I don't see him in the same category as Williams(heh sorry had to do that)

And we take Pollack? someone give me the rundown of picks 1 -12 id be cussing at my TV if i was watching this.

besides i see a lot of trades come draft day i dont see the talent as equal i see top 10 as just a nottch above the rest. and the top ten has a lot of the "final pieces" teams picking in the 20s desire. i did a mock and people thought i was nuts but we will see saturday morning.
 
The discussion about Mike Williams got pretty heated - Kiper actually believes
he's the top players in the Draft while the majority put him at 20 in their mock. That's quite a range. Kiper's credibility is on the line Saturday for his sentiments about Williams.
Regarding us using our pick on Pollack - I still don't know where he plays for
us ? He's simply too small to be a downlineman in our D. If there was any chance he could convert to ILB - he is quick as a cat and probably has excellent lateral movement. And taking on offensive guards & tackles would
not be a new challenge for him. Peek & Babin on the outside and Greenwood
& Pollack playing the inside backers ?

I wanna know what were picks 1 -12 for the most part. Ive also learned when picking games do the oppisite of hoge
 
Pollack would be an OLB. Yah.. he ran his 40 .3 seconds slower than Shawn Merriman (GASP!).. but that doesnt amount to much when you dont have to run more than 10 yards.

he scored off the charts on the quickness drills.. I think that is more important to a pass rusher than 4.5 40 speed.

Hes a prototypical 3-4 OLB tweener.

I dont see how you could rate Ware so much higher than Pollack :).. if anything they are on an even playing field.. though I would rate Pollack higher.
 
Its not much Higher really but I love Ware's Speed, vertical, and wingspan. to me he is the top tweener in this years draft.

you can never have to many "factor backs" :thumbup it just that everytime pollack comes up, wingo will say how great he is and how he will make the play no matter what. not saying he is wrong about that, but it's just strange.

Assuming you are talking about my post...if not then sorry, do I need to bring character into the discussion? Leaf was a head case. His stats said he had talent, but there was something else wrong...Does that mean we should not look at numbers...I mean come on are you really serious?

Mike Williams was pretty much skrued by the NCAA because he made an unfortunate choice that was perfectly legit. Did he go nuts or play golf?? No. He went to Florida and started working to be ready for this draft. To use Leaf as your example for the pointlessness of using college stats is weak. Of course there are exceptions, we all know that, but what Mike Williams did in school was more than just impressive. He dominated from the get go.

I think his size vs speed is a concern for him to stay at WR, but there is no denying his talent. To compare him to Reggie Williams, is not fare...two different levels of players.
 
mmmm Reggie Williams and Mike Williams are pretty equal in size and speed. referrees in the preseason thought that Reggie was a TE and were shocked when Del Rio had him at wideout.
 
Something I didn't like on the draft special was that NONE of them were high on Derrick Johnson. They had the Lions "taking a chance" on him at #10.
 
starting with the Detroit pick is when I became nervous, the fact they took DJ would be proof. then Dallas selecting Shawne Merriman :hairpull: and just to top off everything San Diego selects Marcus Spears for their 3-4 :mad:

has anyone else thought thru the Phillip Buchanon trade and come to the realization that offenses, even the Colts will game plan to run the ball more because of the talent level of the Texans secondary? they will swing the ball through the weakest link they can find & right now it has to be our run defense. these guys need some help upfront in the trenches, the Texans need to draft a premium defensive tackle like a Marcus Spears with the 13th pick or impact ILB like Derrick Johnson to make teams throw the ball, otherwise its going to be another year short of the playoffs as teams run the ball and control the clock.
 
If the real draft goes anything like ESPN's and Mike Williams does fall to Dallas at #20 (yeah right), I'd call it good after the first round.

I completely disagree with Hoge on Mike Williams. No burst, no speed... SO WHAT!?!?! Williams clocked faster 40 times than Anquan Boldin and Michael Clayton. How in the hell were those guys even able to catch a pass in the NFL with such slow 40 times? Maybe because too much emphasis is placed on 40 times? Just maybe?
 
Basing a player's value by his 40 times is really silly. I think most of these GMs and scouts already know what these players can do even before the Combine. Most player evaluation is actually made when these guy are playing football. It doesn't matter how fast you run in the Combine and at your pro-day, what matter is how that player performed when he was actually on the field doing football things. Mike Williams had a fabulous college career and he has shown that he can be a special player at this level. He didn't play a year but I'm sure he just didn't sit around waiting for the draft to come around. In the end, I think most NFL personell know that 40 time is not a sure thing and players with "slow" 40 times can and have succeeded in the league.
 
J. Rice ran a slow 40. You use the 40 to determine burst and quickness. Most NFL personell really count and quantify the first 30 yds. They want to know acceleration and pick up speed. The reason people make such a big deal out of the forty is because you cannot teach speed. It is like height in basketball you have it or you dont and if you dont you know that you have to look at other tangible drills to determine more. Mike Williams will be a good player in this league hell Keyshawn was and Mike is pretty much like him in on-field regard.
 
I've long thought that 40 times were highly over rated. Williams is a player pure and simple. He will be a terror in the red zone. Now, if you are looking for a "stretch the field" kind of guy, then you might look another direction, as I believe the Texans will. But, let's remember the age old example of Jerry Rice. His 40 times were knocked when he came out, and he tumbled in the first round. As I recall, he had a halfway decent career. :hmmm:

I will agree with that, and Williams aint got the attitude of Meshawn...which is a BIG bonus for Williams in my oppinion.
