Ryans’ base salary of $2.5 million would have become fully guaranteed on Mar. 11. He restructured his contract before last season for cap reasons and got a $2 million signing bonus on his new deal that extended through 2016.

A second-round pick of the Texans in 2006, Ryans will be 32 this summer. He played the last four seasons with the Eagles and started 13 games last season.

His 2014 season was cut short by the second Achilles rupture of his career. A two-time Pro Bowler, Ryans has seven career interceptions and 13.5 career sacks in 140 games.

I read this and thought, 'I hope nobody suggests bringing him back'. I've had a day to let the idea marinate though, and I think I'd give him a call. Romeo's system is ideal for Ryans - asked more to read and react, as well as needing the ability to maneuver more than chase. He'd come pretty cheap, he's got chemistry with Cushing and most importantly we know the kind of leadership he brings. He wouldn't be guaranteed a starting spot of course, and we'd be better off if he wasn't starting - but as an armchair coach, Ryans is certainly someone I'd want in the lockerroom and on the field at least once per down (and probably more late in games).
 
Unless it's a vet minimum and he's coming in to be the 3rd ILB I'd rather let BMack play and learn on the job. Meco's coverage has severely declined after all his leg injuries.
 
Eagles must really be strapped for cash if they couldn't weather a $3M cap hit for a guy who just helped them with their cap situation. A true leader at that.
