DT Daryl Gardener let go by the Broncos

Evidentally this guy was supposed to be all that & a bag of chips but he got into a squabble at a pancake house one morning & sustained an injury to his wrist. The whole situation didn't sit well with Coach Shanahan because they ended up suspending him & it pretty much went all down-hill from there. Signed as a FA, he was set to be the missing piece to Denver's DL problems but it never came to pass. Is he that big of a head-case or could we use him for a little depth if nothing else? Here's a link to the whole ordeal.

Daryl Gardener released

I wouldnt mind him or Marcus Bell, if either of them signed for reasonable money I would be happy. I am scared about the defensive line depth and either would help. If I had a choice it would be Bell because he has more upside and doesnt have all types of problems.

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but Gardener agreed to a contract with the Bengals a couple months ago. He was permitted to shop himself around by the Broncos before they released him, and his old defensive coordinator at Washington, Marvin Lewis, was interested in his services. It was Lewis that got the best performance out of Gardener in his career when he earned a Pro Bowl spot with the Redskins. It's been known for quite awhile that once he was released by Denver he'd be headed to Cincinatti.

Well if all that has happened, then why didn't they bother to include it in the story I found on NFL.com? Seems if there were any validity to what you say then some of the gossip-monger journalists would'a said SOMETHING :blah:

The wait is now officially on to see if the Bengals finish off that four-year, $9 million deal with defensive tackle Daryl Gardener that was reported back in mid-April.

From the Bengals web-site. Doubt they would get their fans excited about something if they didn't think it was a done deal.
