Drew Stanton

joedinkle

Waterboy
Let's talk about this guy for a second. I haven't seen much on him in this board.

What are his pros/cons?

Where is he expected to go in the draft?

What can he become with good coaching?

Edit: He doesn't seems mobile, and not afraid to take a shot. Which would be good behind our line.

SCOUTING REPORT
MOXIE/TOUGHNESS: Stanton is the type of player you want behind center. He's tough both physically and mentally. He has all the intangibles and leadership qualities quarterbacks need to succeed.
MOBILITY: Stanton has shown impressive ability to make plays with his feet. He doesn't have blazing foot speed or electrifying open field moves, but he has enough of both to gain yards. He is also a tough runner who will put his head down and take on defenders.
ACCURACY: While he could be a little more consistent, I'll give him a good mark here because he is for the most part, accurate with his passes. Especially the short to intermediate routes. Playing in a spread offense, he has learned to lead receivers well on the short routes allowing them to run after the catch.
ARM STRENGTH : He doesn't have a terribly weak arm, but he doesn't have a cannon either. He doesn't throw a great deep ball and his deep outs have only average velocity. I wouldn't call his arm strength a problem, but it isn't a strong suit either.
DECISION MAKING: Stanton has a gunslinger's mentality and especially towards the end of his junior season, he was forcing a lot of passes into coverage. He was more turnover prone and sometimes, didn't appear to be reading coverages well. He'll have to take better care of the ball.
INJURY HISTORY: He is tough and will play through pain and he'll take hits and get up. However, he tore his ACL early in his MSU career and then had a separated shoulder his sophomore season. While both appeared to be healthy his junior season, his style of play plus his injury history raises some red flags

he is projected between rds3-5 pending on his combine......

with a good senior bowl he's the 3rd QB drafted, late 1st-early 2nd. unless troy smith has a better senior bowl.

i dont think so i say he goes 5 or 6 taken qb......i say its rusell, quinn, smith or kolb 3rd then the other 4th, then possibly stanton

I'm thinking 3rd round, but it's just a guess. He's on my radar as the Texans 3rd round selection...

ha ya i feel dumb lol anyway.... i didnt hear that at all, but maybe i missed something...i still say that smith is better in the 2nd if there.....

stanton and troy smith have been the two best offensive players so far. daymeion hughes the best defensive player.

on kolb: he's looked pretty shaky today. had a little trouble with accuracy and picking up receivers. could be his inexperience with a pro-style offense. we'll see.

read off the football'sfuture website that the texans were interviewing drew stanton...also they interview paul posluszny yesterday via draftdaddy.com...and i saw them interviewing kevin kolb today on the nfl networks coverage of the practice

Good to see we are making a move to if not replace Carr, provide some competition. I think Stanton has probably seen more big games than Kolb, but I think either of them could do well with Coach K's coaching.

They were saying good things about Kolb on NFL Network today.

Kolb is who I want and he fits this sytem perfect. Great arm/accuracy combo, has decent mobility, and he doesn't make mistakes that willl put his team in a bad spot.
