Draft Season Mock Draft

here is a new Mock that closely reflects more of the beerlovers Mock than those silly Mocks from that big hair guy (Kipper) & NFL Countdown that recently have been posted. They have a lot more of the same players closer to my projected picks than any I've seen yet, see what you think-

seems like a pretty good mock draft.

i still dont like the idea of taking O-Line in the draft, i think we need more immediate results which can be gotten through FA moves and/or trades.
 
Question, if we were to get a LT from anywhere, what would most likely happen to Wand? He seemed to do a decent job this past season from what I saw.

exactly. thats why I have the Texans selecting a Guard to replace Pitts next to Wand in Elton Brown. on the lighter side just watched an outstanding show on ESPN, depicting the seasons of 4 rookies, Ben Rothelisberger, Kevin Jones, Roy Williams & Dunta Robinson. i have to say Dunta is quite special, I especially got a kick out of the rookie tasks the team made him endure & how being a rookie was tough, that next season he could'nt wait to do it worse for the next rookies. well imagine if you will telling 6'6" 330 lb Elton Brown to carry your pads & cleats. its time to step it up gentleman we need a beast in the middle of that line pure & simple. if the defense thinks it can pin there ears back & bull rush David Carr they should have another thing coming :sumo:
 
Elton is losing stock quickly for an unknown reason. Hopefully the combine will help him out, but right now, it's a reach if you don't take him from 20-40
 
losing stock? you mean amongst all the Mock Drafts that are now surfacing? don't listen to them, I know your into it deep so I respect your opinion if its your opinion then lets have a open dialogue. the best, most recent comp I have found is Jorden Gross & he was the 8th pick overall in 2003. Early on in the mock process that year several draft sources had him going to the Texans @ #3. Elton Brown has far more upside, is bigger, stronger & more atheltic, the fact Gross helped the Panthers reach the Superbowl in his rookie year makes a strong case for the Texans using the #13 pick for an even better football player. IMO

I totally agree with you man, dont get me wrong. I like Elton a lot. His brother plays at Hampton U and you know how fond I am of the U haha (I pimp Jelani Clement's Please Houston Draft Jelani campaign every day)

I think Elton is a top 15 talent. Unfortunately, some of the scouts that I and others I know talk to don't feel the same way. Granted first rounder with steal value in the 32-40 range, but I'm sure with a good pro day, he'll be fine. For now, and things can change over night, but as of right now, he is losing stock
 
We definitely need to get O-Line help this offseason. If a better player is available at our pick, like Mike Williams or Rolle as some have suggested, then I think we should take them and address the O-Line either in another round or via free agency.
 
I think he could still go pretty high simply because this draft is so (seemingly) weak BPA will be more important regardless of position.

I don't understand what the damn craze is over getting a new FS. Whether you like Coleman or not, give it up. He was just signed to a 3 year extension, is in his first year of FS and he's not going anywhere.

I don't feel like we'll go for a TE on the first day unless it's one of our 3rds. Joppru is a toss up at this point but they may try another go at the Rashod Kent/Antonio Gates coinflip. At #1 I'd like to see a trade down unless DJ is there.

That's a draft I would like. I went roughly off of GBNs prospect ranking, I doubt Wilkerson (despite injury) or Lefors(this guy can just play) drops that low but I really don't care at this point because no one really knows whats going to happen with some of these guys come draft day. But that's a draft I would like. I know Glenn Earl seems to be progressing but weren't people talking about Brimmer as a possible 1st/2nd round guy last year if he came out early? Why has he dropped? I'm surprised Baas was rated that low on GBN but oh well. I could not care less.

5. I would take the big fella in the third or fourth
6. hopefully we will have addressed our line depth before now; I would rather we grab a guy like Seward or Claridge from UNLV. Jordan Beck and Liam Ezekiel are both very exciting players that could fit our scheme well
7. I love to watch Stefan play but I want Matt Jones to come play receiver for the Texans

Yea, I was trying to remember if Jackson had some issues like that but he's a physical CB with good speed that's played S before (remind you of someone?)

I could just as easily go with Carlos Rogers at that pick and he doesn't seem to have any character issues.

Isn't Roth more of a true 4-3 DE? Like around 270? In any case, I don't see him having the lateral ability of a LB in our scheme.

If you think Russell is too high and Boomer too low, swap them around. I could care less HOW we get the players.

I hear a lot of stuff about Castillo but never seen him, he could probably take Brimmer's place in my mock and then maybe in Shropshire's place we could pick someone up like Junior Rosegreen (will he last until the 6th?)

Russell may not have the elite speed we're looking for on the side opposite AJ. The reports I saw have him running a 4.52, but Bradford had elite speed and that didn't really do much for us since half the time the football was bouncing off his helmet into a DBs hands (ok exaggeration, but you get the point.)

Stefan just seems like a guy that always finds a way to make a play no matter how badly a play breaks down. He also has pretty good speed (4.65). The only turn off is the fact he's only about 5'11"
 
I heard both Casserly and Capers say in the last two days that their lean is defense at 13. Now if there's an offensive guy still there at 13 that they have rated clearly higher than anyone else then they will take that guy, but if it's close they have both stated that they would prefer a defensive player at that point.
 
it would be interesting to note payroll split between offense & defense. remove Carr from the equation and does offense still hold the edge? most likely but seems to me the Texans have built the team very balanced with high picks on both sides of the ball & one more might perfectly balance the mix. of course this is dictated by who is available- in large part this is a defensively deep draft at the corner position, unlike last year when there was only two #8 DeAngelo Hall & #10 Dunta Robinson. however if the draft goes anything like our HoustonTexans.com Mock draft and Braylon Edwards falls to the Texans it would be very tempting indeed :hairpull:
 
I don't think the offense has never held the edge in payroll even with Carr in the equation. The only guys beyond their first NFL contract on the offense are Wade, Wiegert, McKinney, and Bruener (who isn't breaking the bank).

On defense you have guys like Sharper, Glenn, Coleman, Payne, Wong, G Walker and Robaire who have some of the biggest $$$ contracts on the team.

The offense has been built through the draft (for the most part). THe defense has been built through the expansion draft and free agency (for the most part). Since a lot of our offensive starters are still in their first NFL contract, it follows that they aren't (yet) making the big dollars as a unit. That will change as time goes on and it will level out.
 
If we draft a guard like beerlover thinks we should I don't think it should be to replace Pitts but Wiegert. To be fair to Pitts it was his first year in the pros playing LG. He'll better this year than last year, plus he's been healthy for all of the last 3 yrs. Wiegert on the other hand is on the older side and has faught the injury bug the last two years. For me its a no brainer to draft Elton Brown to replace Wiegert. And I saw on NFL Draft Countdown that the Texans can get E.Brown in the 2nd round.

yes I've been thinking Wiegert will be an excellent back-up :heh:

to think Elton Brown will still be available when the Texans pick in the 2nd rd is a bit of a stretch, I would like the Texans to take BPA with #13 then trade up as they were able to do last year with Babin.
 
I like that idea of doing the same as last year. That way we get 2 good players that can contribute right away if needed.
