draft a FS

keyfro

Veteran
i know most of the internet scouts think we need a strong safty in this years draft but i think we actually need a free safty...coleman who just signed a 4 year extension is a solid starter but what about his back up...jammal lord who as we all know is still in the process of making the transition to defense from being a college QB...so here are some mid to late round free safties i think we should have our eye on:

kerry rhodes louisville 6'2'' 209lb 4.46
andre maddox N.C. st. 6'0'' 207lb 4.47
jermaine harris south carolina 6'4'' 210lb 4.6
Sean Considine Iowa 6'1'' 212lb 4.55

rhodes would be my choice out of these 4

Dont forget about Jason Simmons who re-signed with the Texans on 3/9/05 . They may take a safety in the draft but it will probably be very late (6th-7th round) as they are happy w/ the combination of G.Earl , M.Coleman as the starters and Simmons as the top back up @ both positions . If the Texans chose a safety other than T.Davis(Before round 6) with the idea of switching hi, to ILB I would be very surprised .

Colemans got at least two more years like infantrycak said and Earl should be improved with a year in the system so I think he deserves a shot to really prove himself. Unless of course we take Thomas then you let the talent (Thomas) play and develop.

Our FS depth is strong behind Coleman...I anticipate our depth chart to look something like this:

Coleman
Lewis Sanders (who will double as a nickle or dime CB)
Jason Simmons
Jammal Lord

Lord showed some promise last preseason, and I think after having a year to digest the playbook and work with Hoke, we should see marked improvement this year...He'll be a special teamer at the least...I'm sorry, but I just don't see us needing help here...
