Doppelganger's March Mock Version 1.0

[Doppelganger]

1. J.J. Watt, DL- Wisconsin
A DL player who can play multiple positions. He can rush the passer, play solid run D, bat down balls, and is strong enough to move the LOS. He also has the ability to shoot gaps. I think he could even potentially be a Wade 3-4 NT. He can also come inside at DT on 4-3 type pass rush sets. Talk about value here!

2. Quinton Carter, S, Oklahoma
Possibly the best Safety prospect outside of Peterson. He can start right away at either position. He is the kind of safety that Wade likes. He can cover, he can tackle, and on occasion can lay the wood.

3. Davon House, CB, New Mexico State
He must protect the HOUSE! Anyway. He is a good sized CB that we could surely use. He won't start(hopefully), but he provides extra depth.

4. Ian Williams, NT, Notre Dame
A nice developmental NT for Wade. He could be immediate depth and who knows, maybe even a starter down the line.

5. Cecil Shorts, WR, Mount Union
I'll take a shot on him in the fifth.

6. Steven Friday, OLB, Virginia Tech
My sleeper OLB prospect. He has the good to push for a rotational spot right away.

7. David Arkin, G, Missouri State
Guard depth is NEVER a bad thing.

tough call between Watt or Jordon (who I have mocked to Texans). Went with superior athlete, bloodlines, kid I know could handle the pressure with his upbringing (grew up in NFL environment) & slightly more explosive/sudden to stack & shed.

I thought Carter was a little stiff in the hips but then so was Prince Amukamara. Don't see exceptional hands or playmaking skills from him. Also why take FS this high if they believe Glover Quin is their guy moving foward @ position?

I didn't take it to the House because he has a solid 2nd rd. grade. If he does last this long, I could see taking him.

Ian is probably a one or two down NT prospect, I don't see him staying on field all three downs which Wade prefers. His footwork is slow, very little pocket pressure or pass rushing moves, primarily a run stopper ala Okam.

I like Cecil. Had him in my pre-combine mock. Ultimately decided that the 5th rd. was a higher priority than the Texans would assign.

Friday would be very good, could make it on special teams, or get his chance due to injury but my sense is OLB is a much higher priority than 6th rd.

I agree OL depth is never a bad thing. Surely Texans will use at least one pick every draft to keep talent pool flowing. Difference is I went with tackle position instead of guard.

Double dipping OLB? I could see this but they should be different types like one as pass rush specialist the other excellent in coverage.

1. I too had a hard time with Jordan or Watt. I went with Watt simply becuase Watt had a clean record whereas Jordan had a DUi issue.

2. I see Carter as a Safety who can play Free or Strong. If in fact Quinn is moved to Free, Carter could play strong or free. In previous iterations I had Brooks Reed here.

3. I was under the impression that House had a 3rd round grade. I will make adjustments to compensate.

4. I have not seen much Ian and was going off what I recall. Again, I will make adjustments becuase I was thinking he could stay on the field a bit more than I thought.

5. I like him too. I think this is a deep WR class and he will fall becuase of a lack of competition.

6. I like Friday, my super sleeper is probably not as much of a sleeper as I like to think

7.Gotta have good OL. I was thinking Guard since Studdard was not tendered. OL is good too.

7. I figured why not take a flier on a high motor OLB. D needs pass rushers.

We need another CB and RID could be the guy. He is a big strong physical CB who has been compared favorably to Ike Taylor.

3. John Moffitt, G, Wisconsin
A major value pick here. I have been disappointed with the work of Caldwell. Moffitt is the type of Guard who will keep Schaub clean and get that extra push on fourth and 2 to get that hole open for Foster.

4.Shiloh Keo, SS, Idaho
High motor kind of guy. Technique can be taught. Desire cannot. This moves allows Quin to transition to FS and we have Allen, Jackson, McCain and McManis plus hopefully a FA CB to round out the CBs.

5. Cedric Thornton, DT, Southern Arkansas
A sleeper DT who can grow into a Wade NT. Good quickness and good strength. Knock on him is competition, but give him some time and he may surprise you.

Interesting you suggest Ras-I Dowling. I think he will be a FS.

I really like two of the players you added Moffitt & Shiloh Keo. Both rock solid would be great additions. I would drop the later round OG however, doubt Texans select two.

Another Watt pick! Excellent. I dont know if he is NT material, he would need to add alot of weight for that. But I do like the idea of him moving inside on passing downs, it makes perfect sense.

I like Carter, but he ran so slow. If he runs better on his pro day this is a great pick. Even if that is not the case, I am down with the pick. High quality guy who should hold down the position for years.

I agree that House should go before this, but if he is here, snatch him up.

Meh on Williams from ND. Should be a decent rotation player, all that can be expected out of these later picks.

I do not like Shorts. As weird as this sounds, he is the overrated small school prospect, as I believe the Garcon's success is boosting his stock.

Oi, not a fan of RID. He just seems stuck between positions (FS and CB). If it was 3rd, take the gamble. 2nd just seems to high.

Take a look at Eugene Clifford instead of Keo. I think Keo will end up being a Pollard clone, something Wade clearly has not interest in.

I like the idea of Thorton, but his gaining of weight for the combine made him less desirable. He dominated being really quick and sudden, but appears to have lost that a bit. If he can get that back he could be a great NT.

They raved about Keo's feet at the combine . He's quick and fluid which is better than straight line speed I guess .

Can he cover though? Fluid movement is great, but if all he can do is tackle and hit hard, he is in essence another Pollard or Roy Williams clone. We need a coverage safety.

If he's quick and fluid then yes he could at SS . He returns punts so he's not a stiff , he's just not super fast .

I really dont see good coverage skills out of Keo in the film. He is a willing player, but I dont see him as being able to cover some of the faster tight ends, let alone receivers at the next level. I would look at him as primarily an in the box kind of guy.
