Cowboys release Coakley
Irving, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Cowboys released linebacker Dexter Coakley on Tuesday.
Coakley finished this past season third on the team in tackles with 91, despite splitting time with Bradie James. He became just the fifth player in franchise history to reach the 1,000 tackle plateau, accomplishing the feat on November 21 versus the Ravens. He finished the year fourth on the club's all- time list with 1,046.
Coakley was drafted by Dallas in the third round of the 1997 draft. The eight- year veteran had a string of seven straight 100-tackle seasons end this past year.
