David Pollack

I am really hoping that we pick up Pollack next year, he could be the key piece in our defense that can give us a boost in the pass rush department. Like last year when we drafted Robinson, we upgraded two areas, CB and FS (by moving Coleman to FS). This year we could draft Pollack to play ROLB and move Wong to ILB to play next to Sharper and improve two areas. Pollack won the Lombardi (best lineman) and Chuck Bednarik Trophy (best defensive player) plus nemberous All-American honors. He has a non-stop motor and was one of the most feared pass rushers in college for the past 3 yrs. He 6-3 and 260 and would be an ideal compliment to Babin. Wong proved this year what a valuable playmaker he can be for our team with his pass rush and pass coverage ability. With Wong as an ILB we have three legit pass rushers that can blitz from different angles and cause havoc in the backfield. Pollack in addition to be a top defensive player is also a class act off the field. He stayed till his senior year and would rival Carr as the nice guy on the team.

I have said several times that our front five (line+olbs) should have wrestling experience. My worry is that he goes before we get a shot. Hopefully, everyone in front has more pressing needs than a DE>OLB. Also, it seems like he played DT/DE at Shiloh...

Career - - junior and senior stats include 271 tackles, 52 tackles for loss and 15 quarterback sacks . . . team had a 15-7 record his final two years . . . defensive stats as a senior show 161 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, four quarterback sacks, an incredible 12 blocked kicks and 10 forced fumbles . . . rushed for 307 yards and four touchdowns as a senior . . . lettered four times in wrestling, earning state title as a senior with perfect 31-0 record. With the emergence of Peek, I don't see us drafting an OLB on the first day.

I like Peek but it seems all he can do is be a pass rush specialist and is still weak in stopping the run and pass coverage. Pollack is a better all around football player good against the pass and rush (not sure about pass coverage but he is a smart player and can probably pick it up) He plays in a tough conferense (SEC) and constantly goes up against pro level T (Shaun Andrews, Jacob Rogers, Max Starks) and still succeeds.
This year he went up against players like:
OL Marcus McNeill Auburn 6-9 340 Jr. Decatur, Ga.
OL Andrew Whitworth LSU 6-7 325 Jr. West Monroe, La.
OL Michael Munoz Tennessee 6-6 315 Sr. Mason, Ohio
And opposing offense concentrated on stopping him and he still led the SEC in sacks.

I refer to his experience playing multiple positions vs. Pollack being a DT/DE, as well as being a very good wrestler like #93

Hey, I think Roth is a very good NFL prospect. I just think his college stats might be more relavent to a discussion of his NFL potential.

One problem I see with the guys listed is that they may bulk up in the offseason to show scouts they're legit 43 DEs. They probably are, but if they get much more bulkier they'd lose some of their quickness. And that would make them less attractive to the Texans if they remain a 34 defense.

I was not talking about NFL potential as much as I was trying to find guys more readily adaptable to our style. Specifically, the difference between a great end who played mainly tackle in highschool and moved outside in college, perhaps due to his loss of explosiveness with added bulk as opposed to two guys that played linebacker in highschool, but are so powerful that they had more value in the defensive scheme as down linemen.
