I've been looking at Hunter for our 2nd round pick. I've seen some big boards slotting him in around #50 and others a little higher. He has some limitations as a DE which I would think might drop his value a little, maybe to the middle or bottom of the second. But his potential in a 34 defense, as an OLB, makes him pretty attractive slotted a little higher, maybe the top of the second.

Those of you who keep track of mocks around the league, does it look like he might fall to us at #51. What do you think of him as our SOLB? I think he could beat out Simon.

His snap anticipation needs to improve, he doesn't use his hands well and he doesn't have a spin move. Still his playing strength is impressive to watch.

One guy no one is mentioning is the owengiuwa (sp). Now that guys snap anticipation is really good. Another player who's stats don't tell the whole story. Opposing QBs really had to get rid of the ball fast against that rush. They were very disruptive. If either were available in the 2nd round..........

He is just starting to scratch the surface of his abilities. He needs to be coached up as a pass rusher but he has everything physically you want in one. He could be the best of all the pass rushers in this draft in a couple of years.
 
Hunter has the length, speed, and athleticism one looks for in a WOLB, but he's slow off the snap and doesn't seem to have any pass rush moves developed yet. He's got good strength and plays through the whistle, but he's raw. Like Mussop said he needs good coaching and time to develop. WOLB for now, maybe a SOLB in a couple years. He could be great in a couple years for the team that has the luxury of letting him learn. He's a 2nd round pick based on potential.
 
Hunter is only a junior and became a starter following the forth game his sophomore year, so he is indeed only beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. His current strength is playing the run and I think he can be effective in this responsibility immediately. And the fact he is slow off the snap doesn't concern me if we project him to OLB.

I'm projecting him to SOLB to replace Reed, who had no production as a pass rusher. So right from the start, Hunter can not be any worse; and with his athleticism, should be an improvement.

I haven't seen anything that makes me dubious of his ability to drop into pass coverage and I read that he is fluid and agile in space. Both Reed and Mercilus were DE's coming out of school and Hunter is more athletic than both. Take a look at these measurables:

I had him #51 for a bit but decided to go with Lippett (whew got some heat for that) and agree exactly with your eval especially replacing Reed immediately which allowed me to give him time to mature but still get productivity. 75% he'll be there; also could see Dallas taking him in second round unless they trade #27 and their second to us for Gurley.
 
He probably will be gone by 51 but depending on who is there at 51 Hunter should be given strong consideration. He's got rare god given ability. A bigger Bruce Irvin. He could turn into a non alcohol induced version of Aldon Smith. I would love to see a talent like Hunter developed by Vrabel. This is why I wouldn't have a huge problem picking Hunter at 16 if RAC/Vrabel signed off on pick.

He was only a junior when he declared, and he didn't start until five games into his sophomore year. He needs coaching and he needs time in the weight room. But he has a spin move and an arm-over move. What he does very well - much better than Bud Dupree - is set the edge against the run. He has "jarring power" in his 10 1/2" hands, and 34 1/2" arms, that he effectively uses to stack and overpower blockers. He has incredible ceiling with the right coaching.
 
I've just finished looking at all the teams selecting in front of the Texans, in the second round - their needs going into the off season, the FA's they lost, the FA's they signed and their priority holes remaining to be filled with a high pick; and I'm really encouraged with the probability that Hunter will fall to us at 51.

Over on another thread, McCain had the Texans selecting Dupree with our #16 selection. I like Hunter over Dupree in any case and now I can more confidently go with WR with this first pick.
