Crabtree has a stress fracture

Shefter is reporting that Michael Crabtree has a stress fracture in his left foot that will require surgery and take him out of the combine and his pro day. He may miss up to ten weeks.

Wow. Terrible time to get hurt. That's gonna cost him some money.
 
How many combine news threads do we really need there mailman ?

They said the stress fracture was similar to the one Johnathan Stewart had last year. The injury will require a screw. He will not be able to work out at all before the draft. Blind pick. Lots of tape on the guy.

In another note....after yesterday when he stood up during the bench press and announced to the room the reason why he wasn't lifting; that he hadn't been working out and wasn't ready....Andre Smith has imploded and gone MIA this morning, ala Berret Robbins. No one, including his agent, currently knows where he is.

The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Little Nicky Sabin is a slug.

Crabtree's foot has been injured for a while. I think since the Baylor game or before? Maybe that's just when Harrell got hurt. Anyways, Crabtree was def. effected during the Cotton Bowl where he got shut down by Ole Miss's superior defense. ;)

that's really weird about Andre Smith, pete. Kind Vince Youngish. I really havn't been as high on him as most people.
 
Very unfortunate for Crabtree. Had he known before the NFL Declaration date, he probably would have stayed in college another year. I dunno is there any way, any kind of hardship provisions for a college player to redeem a year of college eligibility in a situaiton like this ? Probably not I suppose.
He's still a first-round pick I'd sting, but how far would he drop with the discovery of this injury ? Down to #15 ?

It's not a big injury. If he had known earlier I bet he still would have declared and he may have had enough recovery time to work out at a pro day.

On another note, anyone think that maybe Andre Smith is acting this way because he wants to drop in the draft to a better team? Or is he just this idiotic?
 
With these quirky things happening to highly rated offensive players like Crabtree and OT Smith, we maybe are gonna be faced with the prospect of taking a player because of BPA we really don't want/need that badly because he's not a defensive guy ?

Outside Curry, Maulauga, Raji, and Orakpo, I would rather have one of the offensive guys

I think this hurts Maclin dropping to us though

After the way 2006's class played out, I think the Texans have gotten a little leeway in who we pick and who we don't.

Yeah but wasn't crabbtree's injury all of this time reported as "a high ankle sprain". I know TT has a very good vet college, but com'on Old Miss. Are you posting that the TT team doctors missed a stress fracture in the foot.... for three months ? I was born at night but not last night. He knew. They knew. I don't believe this just "turned up" yesterday. Anyone going to go to school in the middle of that waist land, is usually a pretty good scholar. There's nothing else to do but study in Lubbock. I don't believe for one minute that the TT doctors missed it. They knew as soon as they saw it wasn't getting well.

It's actually a little beneficiary to him IMO. He's not as fast as some people think. Not saying the guy can't run, but Maclin and Harvin would blow him away in the 40.

At the combine the 40 yard dash will make or break your draft hopes. If he ran a bad time and Maclin burned one, then Maclin would probably be the 1st WR taken.

Now this way even if Maclin burns the 40, they still don't know how he compares to Crabtree and considering what Crab has done so far in college he will be the 1st WR taken.

I think it's ridiculous how much stock these scouts put into one workout though. If a guy can play then he can play, regardless of what his 40 time is.

Remember Anquan Boldin ran a 4.7 at the combine and he's not to bad himself.

I see your point, but I disagree.

Crabtree's game isn't built entirely on speed, so his 40 isn't as important to scouts. He can afford to have a bad run.

Harvin & Maclin are different though. Their skill sets are built on their speed. So if they have a bad run it will affect them more negatively.
 
Just to set the record straight: They reported tonight that this is the left ankle
or foot. And this is a new injury suffered during his work outs recently at the Micheal Johnson( the sprinter, not the pretend DE from GT) sports center. So, he is faced with the decision of resting the ankle, or foot and hoping the rest allows him to preform at his pro day at TT. Or have the surgery now and miss working out. If he has the surgery now....he's locked and loaded for summer camp. If he delays the surgery, he gets late. And we all know what happens to guys when they come in late to camp. They get behind. And for a rookie WR, it's very hard for them to catch up.

Big learning curve for rookie WRs in the NFL. If the Sea hawks truly want the guy at the four spot they should step in and tell Crabtree to go ahead and have the surgery. He's their guy. That's the Seahawk's best chance to have him locked and loaded by September. We'll see.
