Henry is high risk high reward. Will make a big play like a pick or a big stick, but then get burned bad and give up a big play. Smoot or Lucas would be more of a steadying pick. I do like Ferguson though, and you had to know he was going there. He was originally a 7th round pick by Parcells back when he was with the Jets way back when. Jason Ferg is a stud, no doubt on that one. I considered him to be like the premier FA DT, in my humble estimation.

I think the Cowboys ship is really sinking and Parcells/Jones are doing everything they can possibly think of to steady it, but will overcompensate for the currrent sinkage and it will just sink the opposite direction and they will have wasted their time. Not to mention Parcells will probably put some Da Vinci statue as the next QB as soon as Bledsoe gets killed, just to win some games and try to save some pride instead of letting Henson get in a little more and thinking about the franchise rather than himself.

Henry and Ferguson are both better players than the ones they will be replacing. That's the purpose of FA..replacing players with better ones if the opportunity or money is available. They have the money this year. So far they've done pretty well. If the players don't perform it'll be a waste. If they do they have solved 2 problems they had on defense.
As for Bledsoe I think he'll play a few years. Parcells I can see leaving after next year although he has said recently he doesn't put a timetable on anything regarding coaching. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yes. Moving to the 3-4, they had about 6 personel needs. I think they needed 2 CBs who can play (at least one starter); One NT, at least one pass-rusher OLB, a Safety who can cover, and a larger ILB.
They've taken care of two of those. Ferguson and Henry may or may not be excellent players, but they are much better than what was there before... MUCH BETTER!!

I think that Bledsoe can be a solid QB IF we can protect him. The way to get him off of his game is to apply un-relenting pressure and he'll bend. I also like the Rivera move because his added presence will aid Julius Jones in getting to those open holes so he can reach the second level of defenses where he can do damage. He's got game-breaking ability that will only work if you allow him space. That's the key.
Ferguson is a breath of fresh air defensively. His command of a consistent double team will definately free up our other defensive linemen to make a play in the backfield. For the longest time, our main ailment has been the lack of a good pass rush. I think that the addition of Ferguson is one step closer to solving that problem.
Henry isn't the flashiest player out there, but I think he will suffice. In order to get the most out of our corners, it is imperative to bolster the defensive line, linebacking corps, and of course a deep cover FS that will allow Roy Williams to roam the box where he belongs. The only way that will happen is if we can get a capable guy back there to hold down the fort. I hope and pray that Parcells moves Roy to his natural position at SS because he's clearly not cut out to be in coverage every single play. He is a valuable X-factor that excels when you put him in the center of all the action.
On top of that, I'd like to say again that the ship in Dallas is not sinking, but rather preparing for the long haul sail. Parcells is bent on putting this team back on top of the game before he leaves, and these signings have ensured us a possibility of doing so. After signing Bledsoe, Henry, Fergy, and Rivera, I'd say that most of our FA moves for this year are just about over. If anything, another cheaper alternate RB or secondary player could be added, but then again, it could also be done in the draft IMO.
With two first round picks in the first, I'm thinking it's going to be either a DL and a LB or a possible trade down of one of the two picks. We don't have a third rounder because we forfeited it to you guys in the Henson trade, but if we can get an extra second or third to boot, that would be a wise choice IMO. At the 11th overall pick, Merriman catches a lot of attention. His versatility as a potential LB/DE combo will add to the mix quite well.
I don't think that our defense is going to a full time 3-4, but will employ a mixed variation of the two to keep QB's wary. We may come out lined up in a 3-4 set but then switch to a 4-3 and vice versa. IMO, it's just too many holes to fill at this point to run a 3-4 like you guys do.
Good luck to Houston in the coming weeks. I'm sure that you guys too will grow to be a stronger, better team. I can't wait until the Boys and Texans square off again on the battlefield
