Tough loss for an already suspect defense, Lee went to the ground as first round pick OL Zack Martin engaged him during Dallas' first day of OTAs.
The #Cowboys fears have been confirmed: Sean Lee has a torn ACL. He’s expected to miss the 2014 season.
Tough loss for an already suspect defense, Lee went to the ground as first round pick OL Zack Martin engaged him during Dallas' first day of OTAs.
It’s the third time Lee has suffered an ACL injury and second time it’s happened to his left knee. Lee tore his right ACL in college at Penn State and partially tore his left ACL in 2009. He’s had injury after injury in four seasons with the Cowboys. When he’s been healthy he’s been among the best linebackers in the game. However, those instances have been too few and far between.
The Cowboys need to be concerned about what the league and the NFL Players Association have to say about the circumstances that led to Lee’s injury.
Specifically, the Cowboys could face discipline for the fact that rookie offensive lineman Zack Martin was blocking Lee and ended up on the ground on top of him on the play on which Lee suffered his knee injury. OTAs are supposed to be non-contact, and Martin and Lee clearly engaged with each other on the play, although Lee looked like he was trying to plant his feet and shift directions before he engaged with Martin, so his knee injury may have happened without contact.
