Cowboys LB Sean Lee confirmed torn ACL, out for season

The #Cowboys fears have been confirmed: Sean Lee has a torn ACL. He’s expected to miss the 2014 season.

Tough loss for an already suspect defense, Lee went to the ground as first round pick OL Zack Martin engaged him during Dallas' first day of OTAs.
It’s the third time Lee has suffered an ACL injury and second time it’s happened to his left knee. Lee tore his right ACL in college at Penn State and partially tore his left ACL in 2009. He’s had injury after injury in four seasons with the Cowboys. When he’s been healthy he’s been among the best linebackers in the game. However, those instances have been too few and far between.
The Cowboys need to be concerned about what the league and the NFL Players Association have to say about the circumstances that led to Lee’s injury.

Specifically, the Cowboys could face discipline for the fact that rookie offensive lineman Zack Martin was blocking Lee and ended up on the ground on top of him on the play on which Lee suffered his knee injury. OTAs are supposed to be non-contact, and Martin and Lee clearly engaged with each other on the play, although Lee looked like he was trying to plant his feet and shift directions before he engaged with Martin, so his knee injury may have happened without contact.

The Eagles are my goto NFC team, so in most situations I don't feel particularly sympathetic for any misfortunes that may befall the Cowboys, but this is certainly different, especially for what's happened again to their star LB and it obviously sounds all too familiar to what our own top 'backer Brian Cushing has gone thru in recent years.

as much as i dislike the cowboys, i do like sean lee as a good linebacker. that's a really tough break to see him injured again. especially after hixon probably retiring because of another knee issue.

hard to tell because my computer has reverted into a glorified calculator over the years, but it looks like he might've gone down before any contact. attempting to stop and square up seems to have buckled it and done the damage.
