Cougars vs Sooners

I've been looking forward to this game all week. For whatever reason I thought it started at noon. Had stuff to do this morning, but planned to be back to catch the start of the game.

But it started at 11. So I missed most of the first half.

Going into halftime we have Houston up 19-17.

Should be an entertaining 2nd half.

I like wards improvising and mobility. But some of his throws leave a lot to be desired. IMO he's been better than the OU qb though.

I'm surprised at how good u of h looks as a team though. Specifically their defense. They've gotten some key stops.

Neither QB is a NFL guy. However, Ward could get a look at WR. He's electric in space.

UH LB Steven Taylor is everywhere. Didn't realize he had 10 sacks last year. He's a stud.

Wilson is an incredibly versatile athlete also. He's played three or four different positions for UH.

Ed Oliver is no joke. Seen the kid straight bulldoze one on one a few times while moving in space very comfortably for a guy his size.

Oklahoma can't cover #88 Dunbar.

OU is coming into the season very overrated. They are ranked #3 because they are returning a stud QB and two RBs. But they lost a ton on defense and their secondary is the weak link on the team in a conference where everybody throws.

Dunbar isn't even making crisp cuts on routes. #7 got lit up in this game and it was almost all his fault.

Commentator just said #7 Thomas is a first round guy. Surely, that isn't true.

Which just highlights the problem, because #7 is their best DB.

The OU pass rush has been solid, but Ward's ability to avoid pressure and improvise is buying the receivers all kinds of time. And even when the throws are coming out on time his guys have already beaten coverage.

I was watching the OU channel and their guys were rambling on how the Cougars have no athlete to match up with the Sooners and how they are going to dominate. LOL.

Lol well then they didn't do their homework and deserve what they're getting right now.

UH always has athletes. That's never been an issue. It's always been about coaching and play in the trenches.

What a game!!!!!! Wish I was in Houston to party tonight!!! Go COOGS!!!! Was really starting to sweat last few minutes but they did it!!

I was watching in a perfectly cool living room and was sweating and pacing all game. I've seen a lot of landmark UH wins and this ranks up there somewhere TBD. 1st game of the year and all. It could easily have been 40-23, but the wudda-cudda-shudda game is fiction.

My fellow Coogs, time to root for OU the rest of the way to add to our case.

Damn, what a great day for UH.

Cougars will be favored in the rest of their regular season games. But with the weakness of their remaining schedule, will they make the playoffs if they go undeafeated? Not likely. But, there's always the Peach Bowl!

Is Texas the biggest obstacle for them to get into the Big 12?

There's a lot of resistance due to Houston (the city) being such a hotbed of talent year-in and year-out. If UH got in the B12 schools fear losing whatever foothold they have in recruiting Houstonians.

If the rest of the country has an L in their column?

Only bad thing about this win..he's definitely gone after this year..

Which is why U of H really needs to push hard as hell through social media to trash every school that is trying to prevent them from getting into the Big 12. I'm not even some big U of H guy, but it sucks seeing how unfair these college politics are and how they get to **** all over the smaller programs like Boise State, TCU, and U of H. TCU finally got in and got the respect they deserve, but the Coogs have been slapped around a lot politically. They need to create a big movement and put the information out there for fans across the board to see. I'm a UT fan, and if they go way out of their way to screw up what would be a better and more exciting conference like they did a few years ago when a lot of the conferences were realigning then I might finally have to walk away from being a fan of the program. Can't say for sure, but this elitist bullshit in college football is a big reason why I follow it very little these days.

Even if. What's going to hurt them is that the AAC is down and the Coogs have Lamar and Texas State on the non-conference schedule. Just not enough games against quality competition.

If UH can gain entry into the Big 12, Herman gets a $5 million bonus. I think he sticks around to pocket that.

So do I, and I think he'll stay for a while if they could get in. If they don't I think he bails. I can't believe Texas didn't poach him this last off season.

In the BCS days I'd agree 100%. Today though, no losses and a top 5 win when everyone else pulls an L could just get 'em 4th.

I don't think it's out of the question is all.

Right, but the powers that be (UT and OU) could prevent it from happening for the EXCLUSIVE purpose of poaching him away from UH..this win heightens his profile even more

Yeah, I'm very worried about losing Herman to Austin. Hoping Charlie Strong turns around that UT program this season.

If they remain undefeated he'll have a better shot at getting into next year's playoffs than just about any team he could possibly go to.

I think this is bullshit and I really wish people would stop repeating it. Tillman Fertitta is going to put as many zeros on that check as it takes to keep him here until the school gets in a serious conference. It's as simple as that. I suppose if it becomes clear that UH is consigned to purgatory forever regardless of how good they become or what kind of following they can generate at some point they'll all give up but this "gone after this year" **** is nonsense.

I think he could be a lifer if they get into the Big XII.

If they don't then yes I think his days at UH are numbered, especially if they miss the playoff this year.

Hey man like u I'm UH alumni and I really hate to even have those thoughts, but it is a reality for us as long as we remain in a have-not conference. But hopefully you're right and uncle Fertitta keeps enough zeroes on that check to keep him here.
