Cotton Bowl prediction thread - A&M vs. LSU

FYI, the LSU RB will be playing in the game now:

Ridley had been declared ineligible for the game by LSU because of an academic dishonesty infraction before Christmas. But on Monday the NCAA accepted Ridley's appeal, determining no violation of its rules occurred when provided additional information by LSU.

Ridley is vital to the offense of the 11-ranked Tigers. He rushed for 1,042 yards and 14 touchdowns on an SEC-high 225 carries, ranking fourth in the conference with an 86.8 average per game.

I know most are favoring LSU since they are in the mighty SEC and have won a championship a few years ago, but I'm hoping for, and will be pulling for, the Aggs to win. Gig'em!

It's gonna be about 60-70% A&M in the stadium since they announced A&M a few weeks before LSU and the general admission tickets were sold out quick. LSU also didn't sell their full allotment of tickets and gave some back and the A&M fans snatched them up in less than an hour along with the SRO tickets they made available.

JerryWorld is gonna be rockin!

I think LSU gets the win, I hope I am wrong. Even though I am a UT fan, I root for Texas teams, especially in bowl games and especially against the big 12 (you will never find me rooting for OU though).

So for tonight, gig 'em and stuff.

Y'all may not understand this, but it is the first game I have been able to watch with my son since he became an Aggie. We go up for games each year, but he is in the student section.

Seriously means a ton to me. We indoctrinated him well over the years, but still, nothing like watching with your Aggie son.

That must be really great for you!

Great job D!

Oops, bad on ST!

I have a feeling that A&M wants this game more than we do...

it's a lowercase "geaux tigers" kinda atmosphere around here tonight

or maybe it's just the anticipation of the Saints playoff game tomorrow

They sure got motivated in a hurry.

Well, I was mostly talking about the fans - hence the reference to the atmosphere "around here" as opposed to 1200 miles away in the stadium. And the reference to the Saints game tomorrow.

I should've been clearer - it seems to me that this game means more to the A&M, generally, than LSU, generally. I'm just basing that on my friends and family and fellow alum I know. Just not the same excitement as a BCS game - although the A&M rivalry is one most of us miss.

And for those of us who are LSU and Saints fans, for most/all of the ones I know there's more excitement/anxiety over tomorrow's game than this one.

Saint fans anxious over the 7-9 Seasucks?

well, I am nervous as hell... traveling to Seattle with our top 2 RBs on IR. Graham and Jenkins and Hargrove ruled out. And I really, reeeally don't trust Julius Jones.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a bit on edge... and will probably lose sleep tonight.

24-20 Ags.

Jefferson has 3 turnovers.

Les Miles, Kubiaks the clock at the end of the game and Ags win.

Embarrassing....

Man, Aggies suck.... Why do I have to root for such shitty football teams?!?!? Texans... Check!!!!! Aggies.... Check!!!!!

:bomb:

Is Von Miller big enough to play in the NFL ?
Now that the Texans are going 3-4 the search is on to find those quick edge rushers to play OLB but I don't know if Miller is big enough to get it done at the next level ?

That's been my concern since the first time I watched him.

Watch out for Ryan Kerrigan from Purdue. Purdue has a long history of producing 3-4 edge rushers and Kerrigan is special.

He may be the smallest 6'3'' 243lb player I have seen while watching on TV.

I was hoping to see an uncaged monster last night, but left with more question marks. If we go to the 3-4, he fits the profile, but I need to see a lot more film against NFL caliber talent.

I had the same thought last night the first time he was on camera. I'm thinking he's a lot more like 6'1'' 223lb than his reported stats ? We'll get to the bottom of it when he goes to the Indy Combine.

Was anyone else confused or unimpressed with the production value of the Cotton Bowl? Typically, the national Fox channel is terrible when it comes to college football, missing replays (ESPECIALLY on challenges/reviews), lack of stats analysis and lots of pointless banter from the announcers (probably because they have nothing of value to say). The first thing that tipped me off that something was wrong was when they played the NFL music going into and coming out of commercial breaks.

I thought the Cotton Bowl lived up to my poor expectations of how a football game should be shown on TV, but the funny thing is that they were using it as training for the NFL Super Bowl! I can't believe that this crappy network is actually going to show the Super Bowl with such sub-par production. There were times that I really wondered if anyone was bothering to watch the game in the TV booth. I recall some very odd shots of player's asses, including an injured LSU guy laying on the ground. For about 30-40 seconds, they just had a shot of this guy's ass on the TV, without bothering to show a replay of the play or try to locate the injury. Then they quickly switched to the coach on the sideline and finally went to commercial after another 20 seconds.

You would think they would use a 10-20 second delay on the feed to adjust for these sort of things, but it appears they didn't. I can't imagine the frustration that will ensue from a Super Bowl play that doesn't get shown again in slo-mo for people to see what was going on. Get your DVRs ready for February, cause you're probably going to need it.

The 75th Cotton Bowl Classic was a dress rehearsal for Fox Sports, in terms of technology, logistics and production planning for SB XLV.

"The stars have aligned for us with the Cotton Bowl and the Super Bowl being in the same facility," said Fox Sports senior producer Bill Brown, who was on hand at Cowboys Stadium for the all-important dry run.

Did they do any pregame on the history of the Cotton Bowl? Lindsey Nelson?

That's the Cotton Bowl I miss. Outdoors, Nelson doing the game, early New Years Day. Now it looks just like the rest of them.

It was awful. I am used to watching LSU football on ESPN and CBS - and I guess I took their relative production value for granted and didn't notice what a strong job they did in comparison with what we saw from FOX.

It was absolutely terrible. My dad and I had the same conversation at halftime and then a redux after the game as we asked one another what the penalty was that negated the last fumble return for a TD. It was just awkward -

At first I thought maybe it was FOX deciding not to put Summerall in the booth.

But now I am wondering if it wasn't Summerall refusing to have this amateur hour punctuate his broadcasting legacy.

It says a lot when you have an obviously aging Pat Summerall interviewing a similarly aging and awkwardly ambling Jim Brown and point to that as the most lucid part of the evening's broadcast.
