We all know Manning buckles under pressure... Way to add the heat... Now go out there and shore up the O-line, you have got to take care of your Carr. :ok:

WHOA!

Sportsmanship!

Holy crap you must've been born in the fifties! Haven't seen that in awhile... not even sure if I like it. LOL

I am sure that the Jags defensive players took a collective sigh of relief :yahoo: when the Texans announced the signing of Mario Williams, but then they had to grab the smelling salts for Leftwich. :ouch:

Thanks!

Funny how fans from a team who used 2 consecutive #1 picks on the DL like the pick. Perhaps you can help us explain the importance of stud defensive linemen?

What is this?? Considerate Jags fans?

I'm not used to it by any stretch of the imagination, and I still hate that team, but man...I do enjoy real football fans who act with class. Welcome to the board.

Sorry to eavesdrop here, as I'm obviously not a jaggy fan, but I can maybe add a little to this conversation.

In 1999, the Titans selected a linebacker out of Florida in the first round at the 16th overall pick with the intention of turning him into a defensive end. Mr. Kearse went on to set a rookie sack record and was THE (imho) reason the Titans went to the Super Bowl that year. It is amazing the impact a player dominating off the end can have on a game. It demoralizes the opponent when they can't get anything done, it rallies the home team and it pumps a crowd up like nobody's business.

Take a look at the 15 players selected before Kearse that year:

1 Cleveland Tim Couch QB Kentucky
2 Philadelphia Donovan McNabb QB Syracuse
3 Cincinnati Akili Smith QB Oregon
4 Indianapolis Edgerrin James RB Miami
5 New Orleans Ricky Williams RB Texas
6 St. Louis Torry Holt WR North Carolina State
7 Washington Champ Bailey CB Georgia
8 Arizona David Boston WR Ohio State
9 Detroit Chris Claiborne MLB Southern California
10 Baltimore Chris McAlister CB Arizona
11 Minnesota Daunte Culpepper QB Central Florida
12 Chicago Cade McNown QB UCLA
13 Pittsburgh Troy Edwards WR Louisiana Tech
14 Kansas City John Tait T Brigham Young
15 Tampa Bay Anthony McFarland DT Louisiana State

Hindsight being what it is and all, there were several picks that year that would have gone on to be impact players, but none of them (again, imho) had the instant impact for their respective teams that Kearse had for the Titans.

If Williams can come in and have anything close to the impact Kearse had for the Titans, the Texans' staff will be heralded as the smartest front office/coaches in the league.

When you look at it, that draft was really pretty good with several players having a pretty big impact.

You also forgot to mention that a pass rushing force off of the DE does wonders for your defensive game-planning. It forces the Offense to account for that DE every single play. Double teams and RB's over to help alleviate the pressure means blitzes, stunts, and other tactics from the other side become deadly effective. It opens up the defensive playbook while effectively limiting what the Offense can do out of theirs.

If Williams turns into a Kearse type monster, Houston will come to love this pick.

Go Texans

Thank you. I was referencing the two tackles the Jags picked first in 2 drafts (Henderson, Stroud) and how they affected Jacksonville's defensive identity. Kearse is a good example, too.
