Congratulations to CC & the front office--

Nighthawk

Rookie
Put your name on this thread if you believe this was the best move. I applaud CC and the Texans for making the hard choice and coming out ahead. It's stunning. Of course, it could be a sign and trade, I suppose, for trading down, but that's probably too unlikely.

Kudos to all.

I'm glad the front office and personnel had the guts to not make a pick based on what the fans want or for taking the "sexy" pick.

Congrats casserly for setting us back another 3 years, and basically saying your babin pick in the first round was a complete waste!!! Hooray!!!! :yahoo:

I think this was the right move to make!

I'm glad the Texans didn't let a rookie 'next best thing since sliced bread' RB dictate contract terms/numbers and simply went to their next player who wanted to be a #1 pick and play in the NFL, got the deal done, and we don't have to deal with offseason contract dispute problems.

Good job and the future will decide if Mario is 'worth' the #1 pick or not.

We could have done alot worse, IMHO.

Sign him and trade him so we eat a $26 million cap hit? Not happening. I have said for a long time that I thought he was the best player for us.

Two thumbs up. I would have been at least as happy with a trade down, but this is clearly a better move than picking Reggie Bush.

Kudos to Casserly!

I am not completely opposed to the pick, but the last thing a franchise should do off of a 2-14 season is alienate the fans. I'm afraid that about 90% of the fan base will not be happy with this move.

has got to be the worst thing your GM could have done. This has to rank up there with the Ricky Williams / Saints Stupid move of the Decade. Reggie Bush is the best FOOTBALL PLAYER to come around in yrs,,,,,,,, WOW good luck this year,,,,,, you have to wonder what Carr is thinking right now,,,,,, Life must really suck as a Texan fan,,,,, no offense,,,, just feel really bad for you

Haven't seen one highlight of Mario in any other game but the Maryland one. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I was obviously in the Bush camp the whole time. WOW. He better be Reggie White.

nice job CC and the gang. Have a nice career at the NFL front office. Seriously, though this was the right pick

Initial shock of not taking Bush wearing off - with the demands he was wanting and Kubiak coming from the "unknown to known RB" system in Denver. I think I'll come around to seeing this was the correct pick.

Agree with the above posts, kudos to the Texans to not giving in to the fans sexy pick (either of them) but like CC said, looking at it from their side of the table - it's about wins.

I'm a D'Brick supporter. And anytime a player gets described as having "an inconsistant motor" , that scares me. We'll see in a few years if we got Decon Jones or....John Matuzzzzack.

TBS, I truely bleiveive that CC tried hard to shop the pick and got the door slamed in his face the last two weeks. McClain said as much this afternoon on 610. If nothing else next time we say we're going to do something, there should be no shawdow of doubt that we're doing what we say we're doing. What this tells me that Prince Reggie is not worth 3000 points. Neither was Vincent Young. If they, were someone would have made a deal to move up. We go NO offers. None, zip, zilch, nill nada.
Looking for ten sacks from our forty million dollar man next season.
I'm endurring the 610 whine right now. Six hours of Kiper whine tomorrow. I can hardly wait. Reggie Bush wasn't worth 3000 points. peroid. If he was we would of got a nibble.

Awesome Pick!! Welcome to the Texans Mario!!! :yahoo: :redtowel:

I need to start looking for Colts - Texans home game tickets!! Nothing will make me happier than seeing Manning get earholed by a 300 pound beast!! :ouch: :yahoo:

Yes, I applaud the pick - way to go Texans.

My question is - If Mario can play all four defensive line positions, could he also play Middle Linebacker at some point in the future?

With 4.66 speed, could he become our Dick Butkus and re-define the Middle Linebacker position?

I realize he would need to learn play some pass defense, but think of him blitzing the quarterback from the middle of the field or stuff a running back that thinks he has made it through the line.

Just a thought - I am probably way off base, but the idea is interesting to me.

Well Charley C. will never have to live with this pick since he is going to be terminated next week anyway, according the ESPN Radio and AM610, so he had nothing to lose.

The only thing that would have been better was to trade w/Jets and still get him, Been saying to folks for week, how bad I wanted him to anchor our D-line and FINALLY GET SOME FREAKEN pressure on the QB. Yes Bush will be special, BUT Dominick is still a VERY GOOD RB. Look at Kubes track record with RBs (Terrell Davis, Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, etc...) This will be a good pick....once the shock wears off everyone. :yahoo:

dada da da daaa...... I'm lovin it. mad props to the FO for making the pick that helps our team the most, not just 2 satisfy close minded fans. not 2 mention supplying us w/the best free agency period we've ever had, hands down. I haven't been this stoked since.............................opening day last year......lol...........holla

I'm willing to give the Front Office the benefit of the doubt on this pick. I won't compare Williams to Bush for at least 2 full seasons.

I'll always be a Texans fan though.

Um, did they cut Babin? I don't think you can call the pick a waste until the player is no longer with the team.

What is right is not always popular. What is popular is not always right.

WTH was happy with the D-Nabb pick by the Eagles?

I applaud comb-over for standing by his pick.

I am definitely Pro-Williams. :redtowel:

Lets get out there and try to turn the blinkered masses around on this pick. All those RB and VY fans need to be educated.

Haters please go hate in another thread this thread is for Mario love.

While lots of people are triyng to say that we just took Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan here... am I crazy for thinking maybe we just passed on Brian Bosworth here?

And to gooneybird: I had read somewhere (still trying to find the link again) about Williams that with his speed that playing a LB position at some point wouldn't be out of the question.

In the end, congrats guys, and I can't wait to see Williams holding up the #1 jersey tomorrow. :yahoo:

Obviously, I like the pick. I agree with much of what gr8 had to say, but despite all the bickering back and forth Mario will have to prove he's worthy of the pick out on the field.

I dont know if he is the right pick or not, however I like hearing this
"Williams says he'd like to go No. 1 overall, but he's more concerned about where his team picks in the future.
"I want to go to a team that's going to best utilize my abilities, so I can help them win a championship," he said, "and maybe next year we can be at the 32nd pick."
Rather then Bush's
" I guess I'll have to get used to losing"

As long as we didn't pick Reggie.

He might have been worth 3000 points. but 3000 points + $30 million gaurunteed?? I don't think so.

I am very proud of our owner and coach (who I give the credit to on this one) for having the guts to do the right thing knowing how the fans and media were going to rip into them personally for doing so.

And, the Texans are not done yet with this draft, standby and watch them work to bring us a Championship team.

Go for it Kubes/McNair, keep doing the right thing vs the popular thing...a whole bunch of us are with you.

P.S. Hey Justice, given your IQ, you really should not call anyone stupid!

Go Texans! :redtowel:

I've been reading the reaction here all night and it's sort of disgusting. Mario is going to be a great addition to this club, with Weaver and the rest we'll finally have a defense. Now that doesn't mean we'll win a lot cause we still have Carr, but maybe Kubiak can turn that sow's ear into a silk purse. I don't know what they'll do with that #2 pick--I mean, if they walk away with DeAngelo Williams they get a guy who is probably better than Bush for the NFL PLUS the best defensive end in recent memory--I call that an A grade draft all by itself. But even without DeAngelo Williams (and I don't think they'll get him) there's still a spot for Addai, Moroney, or Maurice Drew, all better backs than most in the league. My favorite is Drew, evaluated as a 6 to Bush's 7, and only 5'-7" weighing 205 pounds with thighs like Earl's. Some possible injury difficulty I read somewhere. THis game is far from over and you ought to look at what they did in free agency--almost every move made good sense. What that means is there's a new brain pulling the strings and he has a good idea about what he's doing. I'm not a guy who believes in authority a lot. Usually I figure the bosses are wrong, else they wouldn't be bosses. But this time I think Kubiak and Co are onto something big.

Amen to that. The only thing worse that I can think of is getting Owens and Vanderjagt... or maybe Jeff George and a dancing Grammatica.

can hardly wait. Reggie Bush wasn't worth 3000 points. peroid. If he was we would of got a nibble.

This is pure mad genius. Even the garbled period accents the statement.

( Although I have to say the counter argument is that no one in their right mind would bother trading him, so why bother putting a deal together? This of course is working under the assumption that we are in fact in our right minds in the first place. )

Like I said in another thread a few weeks ago, I'll be happy with whatever they do ... VY, RB, MW, trade down ... don't matter to me cuz I have all the faith in the coaching staff to make the correct decisions for our footbal future. The only thing that concerned me was not getting a trade-down senario to get MW but as long as he'll be wreaking havok & being disruptive to opposing offenses, I'm ok with the pick.
My other concern is that we hopefully can resign JWells & NOT draft a RB early like some reports say we're trying to do. IMO, our current stable of backs can do the job under Coach Kubes direction. I'm all for the trade -up senario with the Bears or Pats to the late 1st but not for a RB ... possibly for an OT (WJustice would be sweet).
IMHMFO, Bush & his money-grubbin' agent made their bed ... askin for more guaranteed $$$ than even last years #1 pick. NOW it's entirely possible he may not even go 2nd or 3rd ... You reap what you sow.
One more thing & I'll shut up. All you fair weather fans that are gonna jump ship, don't let the door hit ya in the *** when ya leave ... You'll be back when this "Dirty South Defense" starts draggin opposing offenses up & down the field & our offense can actually stay on the field for more than 3 & out.
Rock on my Texans, I'm with ya now & forever. I even changed my avatar to welcome the beast that IS Super Mario Williams.

I like Mario. I just don't think he was the #1 pick. Trading down wws the move for that. I think they saw what Pitt did on D and thought they could get it done with MW. I also think they followed the Denver plan of getting D in the 1st and they will try and move up take D'Angelo or someone. I think Casserly took a shot because he is gone anyways.
