Colts @ Texans AAR

The sweep has happened! Obviously not a flawless victory but the good guys now own the tiebreaker and a two game lead over the biggest rival in the division.

What went well:

1) Defense: Just so impressed with this unit the past two weeks. Injuries have hit the unit but they seem to be getting better.

2) Mixon: Just assume he’ll be here every game if healthy. What a player. Top 5 talent at RB and playing like it this season. Can’t wait for him and Nico to be back together.

3) Stroud: Good bounce back performance from him. Especially considering Diggs left the game second half. Accurate and on target like the Stroud we’re used to.

What did not go well:

1) 4th quarter playcalling: Defense did not have an answer for Stroud and did not have an answer for Mixon between the tackles. So why not run a pitch with Stover gumming up the timing on 3rd and 2? Not a fan of the playcall or execution. Could have lost this game if not for the defensive stand.

2) Penalties: The number was down but the timing was awful. ST penalty gives Colts an opportunity to extend drive and get points. 78 extending his league leading streak. Colts were worse but it was annoying nonetheless.

3) Not Finishing: Texans dominated this game in every metric. Yet the Colts still had an opportunity to win at the end. Need to finish drives with points. Need to put the foot on the throat and finish. It was a win but again harder than it needed to be.

The o-line is the biggest issue by far. They are single handedly holding this team back. Secondary issues exist, including offensive design and play-calling, poor special teams, untimely penalties, and still giving up too many big plays on D.

But there’s really only one that will keep this team on the launch pad, and it’s the o-line.

Keep in mind, the Texans have the 2nd most guaranteed money tied up in the offensive line in the NFL, and this is the crap they put on the field.

BTW - the team with the least amount of guaranteed money to its o-line? The Baltimore Ravens.

Anyone think the Ravens would trade their 5 for our 5 even with cost being even?

I said if we beat the Colts by one score then we've got serious issues & I'm going to go negative on DeMeco & this team.

But I'm going to reneg on that. I feel good about this team. Really, really good about this team. I don't think we're ready to play the Lions or Chiefs.. especially not in a playoff situation. But I think they are working that way.

The defense played strong all day, but they took it to another level there at the end & that's what's got me pumped.

Offense got issues. I hope they get it worked out. But to get past the 2nd round of the playoffs we're going to need another level defense.

WHAT THE HELL WAS BOBBY SLOWICK THINKING???

Any other QB besides AR and the Texans lose that game! Second straight game Slowick has a crucial idiot play call in the final minutes!
The worst thing is, no way in hell does Slowick get a HC job now unless his offense turns a full 180, so He'll be here next season as well. I'm pretty sure even the worst David Carr offenses had more than 2 second half TDs 8 weeks in.

For the sake of the team I hope he turns it around, but he's looking like a man with few answers for the problems his offense is facing.

Only the second time in franchise history that we swept the Colts & we did it this game without one starting linebacker on the field. Probably the worst case to be playing Taylor & Richardson but we pulled it out. Anytime we beat the Colts (my most hated team) no matter how we did it is a great day in football.

People seem to be ignoring the fact that the Texans have been playing most of the year without key starters in the lineup & are still managing to win games. I really think that if they can get close to healthy we are going to see a much better team down the stretch. You are what your record says you are so here's to the division leading 6-2 Texans.

Yeah, they’re 6-2, but we’re going to find out how bad we are on Thursday

Exactly. 10 more weeks to prepare for playoffs.

We have some young players that have played in the playoffs last year and have played in big games in college.

We have some core veteran leadership that have played in big playoff games in the NFL (White, Diggs, Mixon, Al- Shaair, Hunter, etc)

These guys are ready. Just have to be healthy and work out the last kinks.

That's some James Hardin stuff right there. If my starting QB ever removed himself from the game on a drive to end a half (hell any drive), because "He's tired", he isn't my starting QB anymore. If Shane Steichen starts Joe Flacco, they would have a tie for first place. Thank God he was a idiot. Makes me wonder though if powers that be are making him start Richardson to justify the draft pick. Like the guy in Cleveland..

And if Richardson doesn't have the stamina to start a full game at QB, as a coach I'd really start questioning what the hell he's doing during his down time. It certainly isn't working on his craft.

They were 2 of 13 on 3rd down.. didn't exactly dominate T.O.P. pal.. you had plenty of time to sit on the bench..

I’m getting acclimated to ugly wins.

lol is that a good or bad thing.

We beat the Colts who has owned us for years. Feels good sweeping them this season.

Man our defense is nasty. They were out there hunting.

After Thursday and some much need time off, they will have to work on replacing Green. Dude is a straight up BUST.

File this under, “What went well” :)

NFL Research: Anthony Richardson's 31.3 completion percentage was the second-lowest by any player in a single game with 30-plus pass attempts over the last 10 seasons. The only player worse was Josh Allen, also this season and also on the road against the Texans (30.0%). Richardson has the NFL's worst completion percentage in 2024 (44.4) and over the last two seasons (50.2, minimum 150 attempts).

Honestly we have had a very rough schedule to start the season. Outside of the Jags (who are tough because they are a division opponent) and the Patriots (who we dominated anyway), we played very solid teams more than in the hunt to be in the playoffs. These wins are brutal and we'd like some easy ones, but hopefully they are sharpening our mentality for when the playoffs roll.

Yeah the ugly wins are frustrating, but a win is a win. I mean the Chiefs are undefeated and a majority of their wins are one score games. They haven't blown anyone out. What's frustrating to me is that we have so many self inflicted issues. Fix the O line and play calling on offense and we are in a much better spot.

This is the hope. We for damn sure won’t be inexperienced in this area. the defense has put together 2 pretty good games this year where they’ve dominated & have navigated the injuries pretty well thus far. They’re also getting better imo. Now I just wanna see the offense put together a solid offensive game & get better.

Very important win today. 6-2 with a 2+ game division lead is a lot better than 5-3 and tied with the division lead.

Plus 3 more division games against Jags/Titans. Who will both continue hopefully to be trade deadline sellers.

Would be nice to get a win Thursday against the Jets. They have talent but they lack leadership. One game at a time.

Eric Murray played his arse off
Dare in on every 3rd down play is a dead giveaway for the D
Played way too much 1 high safety today when all the colts can do is chuck it deep!
Will A is a bad ass
Run D was lacking a bit today
Good job on the lack of penalties today
Hope diggs is ok

As a team, we are good and can be even better. That's why we are favored against the Jets Thursday.
Why is that? Because we have a better “record”? Pardon my pessimism, but Minnesota and the fact that Met Life stadium is CJ’s house of horrors……

So should the Texans be forced to forfeit a couple of their wins? Which teams deserved to win that the Texans beat?
They remind me of TCU a couple years back before they got destroyed by Georgia.

The OL and Slowick’s play calling are proving to be the offense’s achilles heel. Slowick must find a way to be more cognizant of the in game flow and willing to adjust on the fly.

As for the defense, they’re just a few injury returns away from being nasty and dominant.

Special Teams….Townsend must improve his punting!!!! Ross is still doing a fine job overall.
