Clay Matthews: Absence a better indicator than appearance?

jppaul

Cut and Dry
USC's Proday...:

As for the roll call of NFL brass with 30 of the 32 teams represented, here are a few of the bigger names in attendance: Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary, Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress and personnel chief Rick Spielman, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz and General Manager Martin Mayhew, Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves, Green Bay Packers General Manager Ted Thompson and the New Orleans Saints’ Mickey Loomis.

The Houston Texans and the Denver Broncos are reportedly the only teams not in attendance.

Undoubtedly the days before the draft are filled with deception and false trails, but interestingly enough we didn't show to the proday. It could be argued that this is a better indicator of our interest than actually showing up, considering the smoke screens that blanket the draft. We likely would already have all the info we needed and have ranked Matthews accordingly so the pro day isn't vital.

On the other hand it could just as easily be argued that we are simply not interested.

Could go either way, I think that the Texans are interested in matthews, and the Broncos are interested in Sanchez so go figure. If anything thier absence might raise the antennae of other teams more than actually showing up, so I am not so sure about this move.

Texans are undercover, very low key around pro-days not wanting to tip their hand or leak anything to the press :spy:

They did the same thing with Duane Brown. I sat there and froze my a## off watching the east west game. I didn't have a clue we'd draft the guy. I knew we needed one....Once Chris Williams and Ryan Clady left the board...I got pretty depressed.

Dosen't really matter now. Whlie the draft gurus were scratching what ever they were scratching....they missed the next....Derrick Brooks, Willbur Marshall....fill in your own HOFer.

I think his stock is so sky high now there's not a chance in hades he'll be on the board for us at the fifteen.

I realy hope we do get clay matthews. At first i realy didnt want him but at the same time i didnt have a reason but now that ive seen some of his drills from the Pro Day i just dont know how we would be able to pass him up. He looked realy smooth in his drills. He has smooth hips and good hands. It looks like his coverage skills will be pretty good to go with his pass rushing ability. This is probably because he was a safety coming out of high school. And he also ran a 4.57 forty

Pretty weird. We need a linebacker, and the Trojans have some of the best linebackers in this years draft class. Not showing up to throw a smoke screeen is stupid. A first rou nd pick is valuable. I want to know everything we can about the guy

Did we attend the pro days for our last 3 1st round picks since the Kubiak era began?

Don't know either way about the last two drafts, but according to McClain on Chron.com yesterday, the Texans did not attend the N.C. State Pro Day prior to the 2006 draft.

Perhaps they already saw what they needed to see at the combine.
