Christian Ponder

TexansSeminole

Hall of Fame
FSU QB Christian Ponder threw for 395 yards on 33 of 40 passes and 3 TDs on the road against the #1 pass defense in the nation North Carolina.

Through 7 games, his stats are great. He is 180 of 257 for a completion percentage of 70.03%. He has 2,176 yards (310.85 yards per game) passing with 12 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also has 137 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs.

If the Seminoles were winning more games, Ponder would be on the Heisman watch list. He is having a great season. He is a RS/JR and he will come back next year.

Has anybody here had a chance to see Ponder play this year?

I have and I've talked about him on this board before. (He was the reason why I predicted the BYU upset) He's my #1 QB prospect when ever he decides to come out. That guy has MAJOR talent, can make every throw, accurate, and is smart as hell too. He doesn't get talked about much though, because his team sucks. That has got to be the worst pass defense I've ever watched in college.

BTW, I've seen all but 2 of FSU's games.....my brother in law is a big fan and he got me interested in them.....they're my adopted second college team......VERY frustrating team to watch!

I was impressed with the touch on his passes . He threw two over the top of a defender that were perfect . One was over the middle for a first down and it brought back memories of a certain QB picked #1 in 2002 who couldn't make that throw to save his life .

The announcer stated that Ponder had the fastest 3 cone drill on the team . They said Ponder ran a 3.91 or something like that . Craig James said anything below 4.1 is smoking .

He made some real impressive throws in that game. The 98 yard TD pass was a great throw, and great presence to sit in the pocket in the endzone. There was a 3rd and long pass over the middle that was very good, that may be the one you were talking about. The out and up TD pass to Bo Reliford was a good throw, he pump faked over the middle which got Reliford so open. A lot of NFL type of throws in that game.

I wonder if he will be a finalist for any awards if he keeps these kind of numbers up.

Yea, this team is very frsutrating. The defense is the reason we are losing games. Mickey Andrews is being stubborn about the scheme. He still thinks the FSU players are just better than who they line up against and plays man coverage every week. Teams know exactly what we are going to do before they even take the field. On North Carolina's opening drive, they basically just ran crossing routes against man coverage and ran the ball to the outside where our corners would get run out of the play covering receivers that were disguising pass.

That was it . He plays like a bigger stronger Tony Romo the way he can slide in the pocket and look down the field ( which is not an insult ) .

I like an athletic QB who can burn you with his feet . My favorite all time QB was Elway . Not the Elway who handed of to Terrel Davis , the one who took over a game at the end .

The FSU kicker went to Clear Lake last year .

Ponder went 26/40, and threw for 277 yards a touchdown and 2 interceptions in the 45-42 win against NC State. Both interceptions were off tipped balls. He also had 29 yards rushing on 4 carries.

He got injured in the game. Sprained an ankle and bruised some ribs. You could tell he was in a lot of pain, but he hung in there.

Seminoles had 278 yards rushing.
