Chris Collinsworth to NBC

NFL.com wire reports

NEW YORK (July 13, 2005) -- Cris Collinsworth will leave Fox to become a studio analyst and co-host of NBC's Sunday night football, which will begin during the 2006 NFL season.

It will be the second stint with NBC for Collinsworth, the former Cincinnati wide receiver, who was with the network from 1990-96.

Last season, Collinsworth was an analyst along with Troy Aikman on Fox's lead game telecast team with Joe Buck doing play-by-play. Collinsworth joined Fox in 1998 as a studio analyst and also has worked on HBO's Inside the NFL.

He played for the Bengals from 1981-88.

Under its new contract with the NFL, NBC will have a one-hour studio show before the game telecast, which will start shortly after 8 p.m. on the East Coast.

I wonder why Collinsworth is leaving his buds at FOX to go to NBC?

Because he's always wanted to be in the studio. Fortunately for me, I have the option of not watching.

Good, having him in the booth was a crap idea.
He is actaully decent behind the desk. Doesn't make me want to stab him in the face with a fork drenched in pioson.

I saw a show on Troy and Cris on NFL Channel.

Cris has a family and he stated on that show that he really didn't like the travel and being away from his kids so much. So I think it would be something he could not turn down if he were offered the job and didn't have to travel so much.

I think he's funny myself.

I find him irritating. It isn't because he was a long-time Bengal either. I like Boomer Esiason, but Collinsworth is just so damn annoying. I don't like his face, his voice, his attitude or really anything about him.

That's a good explanation. I would do the same if I were in his position.

I was a bit surprised at all the pre-game work these guys have to do. They have multiple meetings, interviews with coaches and players and it requires a ton of travel. I'm fairly certain Cris was the one of the three of them singled out that did not like all the traveling.

I can't stand Collinsworth. The way he talks, you'd think he was Steve Largent or Jerry Rice. He was a decent WR, but the guy's so damn smug it drives me nuts...
