Chip Kelly fired

mussop

Hall of Fame
Just seen on Fox Sports News that Chip Kelly was fired by the Eagles. Wonder where he'll end up next.

What a very strange 3 year tenure he's had with the Eagles.

I wonder if he'll take a more conventional approach if he gets another chance?

Was doing okay until he strong armed his way into getting personnel control.

Byron Maxwell, Demarco Murray, Sam Bradford.......

For whatever reason, players just don't like him. Guys go out of their way to bad mouth him. I get they are traded but plenty of players get traded and never straight up trash a former team like they do with Chip.

Solid college coach. Doesnt seem to know how to treat grown men. Many failed roster moves. He'll have a job in college for sure

If you are going the live. Live by your own rules so ..so when you get realeased you can only blame yourself..live and learn

You have to think going to Tennessee and reuniting with Mariota is a possibility.

That makes so much sense it almost makes me think it won't happen. He'd have to sit out a year to get back in the college game though. All the open positions are filled.

Personally, I don't think that would be the best thing for Mariota's development.

Chip Kelly the GM got Chip Kelly the coach fired. He is another example of a coach who had no business getting control of player personnel.

Two consecutive 10 win seasons, then given too much control and... bam. Short leash.

Firing him with a game to go, sounds like he said the wrong thing to the wrong person. This may not have anything to do with winning games. Someone just got tired of the man.

Wow. I could see him in TN. If that happens I hope he's also the GM because he sucks at it. He reminds me of the Redskins owner Snyder with his poorly thought out knee jerk decisions.

What if A&M fired sumlin and went after chip?

That would be great.

For us!

That's how I felt, and was disappointed when reading that he was fired. Especially with my barely walking and very wounded Cowboys, seeing the Eagles train wreck was quite amusing and I was already looking forward to next year. Did anyone on the team or formerly on the team like this guy?

So they can get jump on talking to candidates for next year. Similar to what the Texans did, pretty much had O'Brien lined up by the time other teams started firing their coaches.

I think most coaches don't commit until after their playoff run is over, so I don't know if it's that. Maybe they felt he was really toxic to the team and wanted him out ASAP. Maybe they wanted the right people in as early as possible to do the scouting for next year. They also let some FO people go.

Why 1 week before the end of the season?
Lurie, the owner, has said that he wanted to have this week to talk with the players and get their input on what went wrong and how to change things in the future.

This has to be a dream come through for the Titans. Kelly the coach wasn't the problem. He has a dynamic system. Kelly the GM was way over his head,

He probably tried to bring the college mentality to the pros, which always pisses off players. Sabin and Petrino being the biggest examples.

Pistol Pete, Harbaugh, and O'Brien all worked because they were NFL guys that coached in college for a short time. Better understanding of pro players

I can't help but think that his record buys him another shot in the NFL and soon as well.

If you were the Titans top brass you'd have to think that bringing in the coach that brought your exciting young QB through in college might just be the best option.

Of course the way he went about his time in Philly will bring huge reservations. I'd actually be a little worried to see him move to the AFCS.

Can't help but think he'd get less of a handle on personel second time around and he's probably learned a lot of lessons.

It's been an interesting watch from afar but no way in a million years would I like to see him given the keys to the Texans, it's hard enough to feel any attachment to the players anyway with the league the way it is, let alone when someone starts wheeler dealing to the extent Chip likes to.

Probably the best place for Kelly to go. York is practically married to the GM Baalke so Kelly has no chance of getting a say in most personnel matters and he might actually be able to do something with Kaepernick. Also, York is going to give him a bit of a leash after the whole Tomsula thing blew up.

Unfortunately, that roster is in shambles and the incompetent GM only makes it worse by the year.
