Chiefs agree to trade quarterback Alex Smith to Redskins

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortenson also reported that Smith would sign a four-year extension with the Redskins, averaging $23.5 million per year with $71 million in guaranteed money.
$71 million guaranteed for 33 year old Alex Smith? What the....?

Where does Cousins end up? Denver? Arizona? Cleveland? Buffalo? Jets? What if the Jags dump Bortles? This could get crazy. Kirk Cousins will end up the highest paid player in the league.

The Browns were trying hard to trade for Smith. My guess is that at this point in his career he wanted no part of Cleveland.

Depending on Big Ben's future, the Browns might be a vet QB from winning the AFC North. Especially if they took Barkley #1.

They need to add a rusher across from Garrett also

Redskins are doing the opposite of every other franchise out there. Trading for a journeyman QB (33 yo) while ousting their franchise QB (29 yo). Short of sending Cousins to the Browns for a slew of picks this is a head scratcher for me.

Man Cousins played his hand correctly. Bet on himself for a couple of yrs and is about to cash in big time. He's going to make alot of $$$$ for a guy who's an avg QB. I would guess he ends up in Denver.

Average QBs get $71 million guaranteed, nowadays. Can you imagine what Wentz, Goff, and Watson will get when extended? $30-$35 million/year?

Crazy isn't it.

They are almost partners in the franchise. At least a minority owner.

Why is this deal announced so early?
It can't be official for a long time right?
The teams can still change their minds?

the deal won't actually be 'official' until the new league year starts in mid-March.
and I suppose they could change their minds but why would they?
The Chiefs dumped Alex Smith's cap hit and might have to suffer through the growing pains of Mahommes for a year or so. If he's a stud, as some thought, it's cool. If not, it's a cheap experiment.
Washington finally ended the soap opera that was Kirk Cousins for a young CB. They'll get that 3rd rd pick back as a comp pick just as soon as someone signs Cousins.

They've got to learn to win a game or two before I give Cleveland a shot at anything. As Vince Lombardi once said, "Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing".

I'm gonna guess Cousins goes to Denver or NYJ for the obvious reasons. I don't see Coughlin and the Jags paying him the kind of money he'll command to come and be what effectively will be a game manager; Not with the way Bortles played for them this past year. Bortles' legs also proved to be very useful for the Jags late in the season; not Cousins' forte. I think they'll pick up Bortles' 5th year option, & if he can perform close to how he did this past year, they'll offer him something much cheaper than what Cousins will get.

That's why they need the vet QB. Case Keenum is a FA. I'd ask him if he wants to be the guy who brings back the Browns.

I'd love to see the Browns rise up. After seeing that parade they held in grief over a 0-16 season, I respect their passion as football fans.

Houston would have had either a collective yawn of indifference, or an attitude of GTFO, for the same type of season. Heck, it is my belief that we lost the Oilers because of 35-3. Well, that and people tired of Bud's BS.

Browns fans keep on keeping on. Much respect.

Mostly the bolded. The renovation that the people didn't want wasn't paid for when he started demanding a new stadium for a crapy team

Browns fans see themselves as an old franchise that has seen success, so they have the faith of generations passed on, unlike Houston. The demographics play their part

KC only gets a 3rd round pick and reserve DB for the Smith, seems like they should have done better than that ?

Mahomes is the one I thought we should draft last year. Partly because I never expected Watson to be available to us and I liked his big arm and swagger. Real glad we got who we did, but I expect Mahomes to do very well.
I wanted us to draft Mahomes, too. For the same reasons you said, and also because I went to Texas Tech and having a Red Raider as our quarterback sounded awesome to me.

That being said, I'm extremely satisfied with Watson and wouldn't trade him for anything.
