pace sure did give up alot but im lovin it like mcdonalds

The raiders made a business decision. A bad one but a decision. Still gotta hit on those picks. Bears won this deal. Raiders made most of it.

Raiders also threw away a 3rd pick on Bryant from Pitt. Cut him due to a possible year long suspension. They lost that deal too.

Chucky better coach his ass off because chucky the GM is blowing it lol

Man 3 guys from clowney draft have gotten paid. Just sayin.....

All things being equal, I probably wouldn't have traded Mack for just two firsts. The likelihood of hitting twice isn't actually that great, but you hope to guarantee two good+ players for one all-pro. Add in a 3rd and a 6th and it tips the scales. Add Mack's upcoming massive contract as well as his unresponsiveness to the Raiders, they made out like bandits.

IMHO the Bears made a very dumb deal. They have hamstrung their club with the contracts they have handed out and this one is ridiculously expensive. Mack is very good, but you can't put that much of your cap capital into a defensive player on that looooong contract.

If they structured it right, they can get out after 2,3 years (I haven't seen details)

Bad deal all the way around for the Bears. They gave up way WAY too much capital.

BTW everyone keeps talking about how great Kahlil Mack is, but no one is mentioning how the Raiders always finished bottom 3rd in the league on defense during his entire Raiders career. His individual success never translated to team defensive success. There's a lot of empty stats going on there.

Case in point our playoff game against the Raiders in '16.. Against a sub par line and Assweiler at QB, the man didn't even record a sack.

Let me play devil's advocate for the Bears.

1) The Bears need to win. They haven't had a winning record since 2012. They haven't been to the playoffs or won their division since 2010. The Bears are an afterthought. Mack makes people think about the Bears.
2) The draft has brought Chicago some pretty good players. But, no stars. Mack is a star. To take advantage of the young players the Bears have hit on (especially on defense), a star defender like Mack can accelerate their learning curve.
3) Mack is the higgest paid defender in the league. But the Bears have the QB position under cost control for the next 4 years. They don't have to spend $20-30 million on a QB as the rest of the AFC North is. They can spend that cap money on a player that can help neutralize the competition's high dollar QBs.
4) Draft choices are the lifeblood of a franchise. But if you can't turn those picks into winning seasons, it's the GM and coaches blood that will be spilled. Sometimes an organization will make a move like this to maximize their chance at winning now. Because if they don't win now, another GM and coach will be making those picks.

they got a 2nd in return and the raiders are gonna suck so it will be a good 2nd

also they have lots of good rookies including the qb that are on very cap freindly deals for a few years

pace has time to make it work and the bears have like a 4-5 year window

Anyone who thinks that the Bears made a bad deal because of the money are just dummys and should learn to keep their mouths quiet while the GMs do there jobs because they literally know more then anyone who aint a GM in the NFL about how to run a football biz. Mack is worth every dollar he's getting and doesn't the cap go up like 10% like every year anyways so whats the big deal if he takes up 10% of the cap if it keeps going up???

No one here claims to have the qualifications to be the GM of a NFL franchise. That doesn't suggest that all NFL GMs are above criticism.

The cap does go up annually. There is nothing for the next couple of seasons that suggest future cap issues for the Bears. As far as the draft picks are concerned, the Packers gave up 2 #1's (this year's and next) to select Marcus Davenport. Davenport could become a very good pass rusher for Green Bay. But for the same price in draft capital (or less), the Bears get a proven dominant defender. Yes, Mack is getting paid much more. But the Bears have to spend their cap on something. I don't know if this deal will turn Chicago into a winner. I do know that they are at least trying to become a winner.

Excellent point about Davenport.

Bears have a hope at QB cheap & a proven pass rusher for less than proven QB Rodgers & a cheap hope at pass rusher.

One of those 1st round picks is in 2020, not next year, which makes its value equivalent to that of a 2019 second-rounder.

Yeah, thats how I'm seeing this. How is that no one is finding some of these massive contracts for these guys sort of troubling? At some point even elite players aren't worth it, because you hamstring yourself from being able to really provide quality depth at a lot of positions where most of your team is good or above average. QB's and certain pass rushers/Olineman are worth it to me, but very few honestly. I love Mack as a player, and wanted him way more than Clowney, but as great as he is he likely isn't going to be worth that contract especially if he has injuries in the next few seasons. The only bad part about this trade for the Raiders I see is that they gave up a 2nd rounder which I don't understand. It almost negates the extra first rounder

They think they have their franchise QB on the cheap for the next 4 years... and yeah that was puzzling by the Raiders unless they think it will be two high 1's and a low 2. You know Chucky thinks the world of himself

For heaven's sake, I'll never understand the hype that surrounds Chuckie. I mean he's been a pretty good coach here and there, but he's had a lot of failed decisions and poor track records like plenty of other coaches that have had stints of success. Other than being a little entertaining and animated at times, he's just a slightly above average to good coach. That's it.

Agreed

As someone who is also a Bears fan I loved the trade. It was a side of aggression by the front office we haven't seen often. One that showed they are aiming to win and not simply settle. The qualms about the money involved aren't really relevant to the situation. As a GM you are supposed to weigh that against the merits of such move and it's future holdings on your organization. They had plenty of cap room and are a young roster so not dealing with any looming contract negotiations that could cause any issue. Losing two 1st rounders hurts but they at least picked up a 2nd round pick out of that and not like the GM has been batting 100% with his 1st rounders anyway. Mack is an elite player and they don't come often.

And he's proving it thus far through play and also the atmosphere. I haven't seen the team so energized in a while. It was what I expected to see out of the Texans with the defense they have. A lot of emotion comes in playing defense and desire and it's a great thing to see these young guys feeding off it.
