Chester Pitts

Paragon Blue

Waterboy
Does anyone know how he did in the 2003 season as far as giving up sacks at left tackle? And how many did he give up against Freeney,if any at all. Just curious.

Pitts was credited with 5.75 sacks in 2003. Freeney got 1 sack in the 1st game and none in the 2nd. Don't know if Pitts was held responsible for the sack in the 1st game. Pitts did committ an egregious number of penalties in 2003, something like 8 false starts and 7 holds in the process.

Pitts did an awesome job in the Miami game!
I think he shut Jason Taylor down without a sack if memory serves. Chester
certainly progressed from his first year in 2002 to his second year in 2003 as
our LT. An instructive comparison would be to look at Chester's 2002 season
and compare that to Wand's first year as the starting LT last season in 2004.
Maybe this would give us some kind of realistic expectations for Wands
developent if he continues to start and play at LT.
The thing about Pitts and Wand is both have gotten such a late start in their careers. Wand played at a very small school in college with minimul competition and coaching to nourish his development, and Pitts didn't even
play HS ball (I'm thinking), and maybe didn't play in college until his soph
or junior year. These guys both still have tons and tons of upside.

So why did they end up moving him to left guard?

I believe the coaching staff sees him as more of a guard than tackle. with that said, i belive he'll mostly play guard, but also play some LT in his career. but i also belive if wand is stinking it up early in the season, pitts will move over to LT and finish the year at LT. if we don't go for a LT in the draft, i'd expect pitts to stay at LT for his career. but once again, it all comes down to how wand plays this season at LT.
