Charles Rogers Still Injured

Vinny

shiny happy fan
As we all know, shoulder injuries can really put the skids on a career of a football player. Rogers has sure been in rehab a long, long time. He is still wearing protective gear and is still in "no-touch" status up in Lionville.
While both Rogers and the Lions insist that the receiver has recovered from his broken collarbone in week six of the season last fall, Rogers continues to wear a red jersey and small rubber shoulder pads during practice. None of the other players is in pads and Rogers is not permitted to take part in "contact" drills, when defensive backs are allowed to jam receivers.

You got that one right Vinny. Something doesn't pass the smell test. Could be they are being just over cautious, but it just seems more than a bit wonky.

I thought the guy just busted his collar bone and pulled some muscles? He is STILL not 100%?

I agree that something might not be right in Detroit...could Mooch be pulling a page from Shannahan's play book? :mag:

Now all of a sudden the Roy Williams pick makes even more sense. Not saying that it never did considering the receiving duo Williams and Rogers will/would be, but now if Rogers never turns out as expected at least they have Roy.

I am so glad that the Lions picked Rogers instead of AJ. Another example of why I would not want Matt Millen running my team, although he did have pressure to picked Rogers because he was a hometown guy.

In my discussion at lunch with John McClain and the Texans, I was told the Texans had Rogers way down on thier list due to potential injury. If AJ was gone we would have picked someone besides the gimp lion.

I hope we are not using the same "spin doctors" when we talk about Seth Payne.

Right. On his post draft TV show, Casserly said the Texans had Dewayne Robertson, DT out of Kentucky, as the #2 player on the draft board behind AJ.

I'm kind of glad they didn't pick him either. Isn't he teetering on the edge of a bust? AJ has already proven he can be an above average receiver, now he just needs to prove he can be a great one.

I am not quite ready to say that Rodgers is on the edge of Bust Status...but he's real close. His stats were average in the 1st 5 games...nothing to write home about as they say. If he doesn't put up around 800+ yrds receiving this year he will probably fall into the Bust category (at least as far as considering him being drafted so high). He might end up being in the NFL for several years but being no better than a 2nd or 3rd option receiver.

All in all I am very glad that we got AJ as opposed to Rodgers...a great deal of so called experts questioned the decision to take AJ over Rodgers during last years draft; shows that you gotta take those opinions with the grain of salt.

I don't agree with that. He's pretty wet behind the ears to be thinking bust at this point. In the event that his injury was career ending (hoping honestly that it was not) then it would be a very terrible thing to happen to him but I would still not say he was a bust. At least not for reasons other than unfortunate circumstances. Recievers in their first season typically don't light things up. They can't all be first year wonders.

Plus (much like our own Andre Johnson) he wasn't exactly catching the ball from a veteran pro bowler or anything. Harrington was in his second year (and second coaching staff, that can't be a good thing for his development) and I expect Rodgers will get better. It's just too soon to even worry about him busting though (other than from, as I mentioned an injury). These guys take some time to adjust to the NFL and Rodgers only got what? 5 games? On a team with just about nobody else to worry about? IMO he's lucky he put up even average stats given the situation.

Ouch, hasnt he been a total bust for the Jets?
