John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports former Houston Texans general manager Charley Casserly could have resigned from the team after the 2005 season, but wanted to help head coach Gary Kubiak repair the damage from a 2-14 season. Casserly said, "You leave either in December, or you leave in May after the draft. I didn't feel comfortable leaving at the end of a 2-14 season. I thought Gary was a tremendous hire. I wanted to go through free agency and the draft working with him. I enjoyed my time with him. I thought we had a productive offseason, and I think this team's headed in the right direction. I don't know that anybody in the league had a better offseason than we did." The team

Well, regardless of what Mr. McNair or Casserly say about this subject, sports writers obviously know the truth much better than those intimately involved with the situation.

At least that's what the fishwrap hacks and talking heads will try to lead us to believe.

I agree 100%, really name another team that pretty much met every need that we had.

Anything we picked up during the offseason was going to be an improvement considering the holes we have at almost every position.

The secondary still looks bad, linebackers dont look great for this season, and our offensive line will still be bad for this season as well.

Edit: How dare the media suggest he got fired especially after a 2-14 season???

Anything we picked up would be an improvement? You could say that about every team that picked up FAs.
The secondary is NOT bad, lack of a pass rush is what has hurt our secondary.
And since we have our OLine crystal ball out, I know we are going to be much better of this year.
Flanagan,Pitts,Wiegert,Winston,Spencer,McKinney- And guess who the coach is Mike Sherman.
You can not tell me we did not have the best off season out of any team.

Charlie just sits there acting like he was making decisions and if it all works out he can do like he did when he left Washington..claim to have left them in good shape.

Our secondary was a no-name secondary because they never had opportunities to play their position like it should have been played. Anybody knows that a QB with too much time = WRs who can break down even the BEST secondary defenders. A secondary can only lock down WRs for so long, and then the field becomes their enemy with too much room for a WR to find an opening.

Selecting Williams, even though I personally wanted Bush, was a pretty good move because I think Kubiak thinks he has enough on the offensive side to get going...while I think he thought the defense needed a freak on the outside of the d line to help us make a true transition to a 4-3.

Our secondary will be better. Our o line will be better. And this time, that's not just Texans offseason public relations schtick: It's probably going to happen, and it's probably going to go over very well.

I'm stoked. The more these clowns (Pompei, etc.) rag us...the more I think we made a pretty wise set of choices in the draft.

Let's be honest here. It's a business. BUSINESS. McNair wanted Casserly out, Casserly wanted out. McNair offered a deal Casserly couldn't refuse, and along with it came the chance for CC to get a little extra mileage out of it by leaving the team in "better shape."

What a deal. That's the kind of exit ANYBODY would suffer through a 2-14 season for. Get paid. Stay and soak up some Kubiak sunrays. And go get paid fat coin as an NFL exec up north where you truly want to be anyway.

Ah ego. I thought the common perception was you don't completely saw the limb off when your sitting on it. If they would have canned everyone, the corporate history would have been lost. Casserly knew the players and could answer questions. He was the link to the past. Loose him and you basically start over year 1 expansion. Now it's played out exactly as people thought it would. Draft's done, his job is done.
