Casserly rates our Draft & Others

For the second straight year they will have the youngest starting player in the NFL. Last year it was Mario Williams. They chose Okoye over the cornerbacks because he was the higher-rated player on their board. Okoye at 19 should still have some growth potential. Okoye came into his own this year as a player and had a good week at the Senior Bowl, which seemed to move him up draft boards from his fall grades. I liked Okoye and he should help the Texans. He will play best in an upfield style of play and that is how they will use him.
They used their second-round pick as part of a package of draft choices to get QB Matt Schaub, so that must figure into their draft evaluation in years to come. In the third round they took an interesting wide receiver prospect in Jacoby Jones. He excelled at Lane College, but wasn't intimidated by the better competition when he played in the postseason all-star-games. He might take some time, but he has some talent.

He correctly points out that Schaub is as much a part of our Draft as the players just coming out of college this year that we picked.

Interesting that he says TN intends to play Griffin at CB rather than S. That is not a college to pros transition you see a lot of.

I'm just thankful I can tune that man out. He's harmless to us now.

Is he going to continue to be the expert analyzer for CBS Sports? And if so, why? :thumbdown

It's almost unheard of. Ex-Oiler CB Jerry Gray was a FS at UT. Carnell Lake played OLB at UCLA, and played some CB in Pittsburgh (though mainly at SS). To make a projection like that in the 1st round is just nutty.

Go back and look at Mack Brown's recuirting list every year. There are few "CB"
and almost no "S". What there is a lot of is "Alth"...Athletes. I don't think he has the back peddle to do it...but I've been wrong before. Desperate deseases require sedperate remedies. They'll get packman back by November.

Wow he is out until Novemeber of '08 ?

Marcus Coleman played safety in college, didn't he? Not arguing with you, just curious.
Right. Coleman was a FS at Tech and drafted in the 5th round in '96. Switched to CB sometime in the '97 season. Not sure if it was because of Marcus' coverage skills, or that he wouldn't hit anybody.

That's hilarious. I think it was because they were desperate for CBs over 5'8.
