Can't Miss Prospects

I started looking hard at the draft and thinking about the guys we are looking at and to tell you the truth who I think we should pick and who I think is the best player out there really differs. I don't like the look of the Texans offense. I don't think you will ever win anything with Carr and DD in a backfield. Not playmakers in my book. So I think Bush or VY is the call..probably Bush with the early to mid rounds on O-line and TE and then plug in FAs. But I do see the problem and faults with each guy. HOWEVER if you wanted my can't miss guy it would be A.J. Hawk. The thing is you can't teach instinct, leadership and hustle. You can't teach a guy to be all over the field. My only problem with trading down for him is the thought of watching our offense again.

I would have no problem getting Hawk. Like you said, he's a hustler and has natural instincts. And if anyone watched the bowl game, he destroyed Quinn. If we switch to the 4-3, he would really fit well. Problem is, everyone is too built up on Bush and Vince and dont realize how big of a problem our Defense and O line is.

The only real problem with DD is his pass blocking and I don't believe that Bush will be an improvement there, although I keep thinking about White (but he's not worth a #1). Hawk sounds like he'd be a real improvement to this team though.

He is just the only guy I see when I look at the landscape where I don't see the negative of him on your team. I don't have questions. I just don't think we would do it or that we can do it.

He's a leader on defense. Dunta is a leader as well right now, but we need a leader up in the front 7 as well. Wether we want to go for someone in the 1st or 2nd is yet to be seen, but we need a leader on defense other than Dunta!!!

I still dont believe there is a such thing as a cant miss prospect til atleast there 2nd or 3rd year. I am just saying he could get injuryed every season like a Jopru or he could be a flop like Thomas or he could just be average player like so many are.

So true. I am just looking at it from the standpoint of someone I see making an impact right away and then having it last over time..sans injuries of course.

I think this draft has alot of people that have the possibility to contribute more than prior years. I just believe that its depends on which player with a certain team. I think Bush would do better in New York than in Houston. I think Young would have a better chance to succeding in Houston than anywhere else why you ask... because he like to move around.. avoid the rush... and we get alot of that.... i like him in all do i think hes right pick for us or trading down i am not sure until the end of FA.

I haven't watched A.J. Hawk all year, so I won't call myself an expert. As a casual observer in a few games, particularly the Fiesta Bowl, A.J. Hawk looked very ordinary to me. He seems to be easily blocked. Anyone who followed Ohio State more closely that can give more insight? Without Carpenter on the field, he looked very average.

I don't think we've got the talent for a 4-3. We definitely lack a true 4-3 end, because our guys are too small. Maybe take a Mario Williams with our first pick to fill one of those roles.

But outside of the Bush/Young picks, I'd take D'brick with the pick. He's getting all kinds of love from analysts and scouts, and good tackles are hard to find in FA. Most teams will draft their LT and keep them through thick and thin if they are good. If we could get Ferguson in the draft and a player like LeCharles Bentley in free agency, we'd be on the right track to establishing a dominant o-line.

He was all over the place, I agree. He does have a tremendous amount of hustle, but he seemed to be blocked easily. When ND put a blocker on him, he did NOT get the tackle. I know he got the D-MVP, but I just didn't see NFL star in that game.

I erased that game from my DVR or I would go back and look again.

All I can say is that these same things were said about guys like Zach Thomas and all they do is make plays. Again, instinct makes up for alot of things. I guarantee he will be a stud.

Put this under rumore because I have no link or anything, but the afternoon sports show on Denvers ESPN show said that a sporting evaluation service says that DBrick is now the second ranked TALENT in the draft. Reggie is still #1. Love to get DBrick.

I heard that but also saw this site the other day that said he had an inconsistent senior year and wasn't that high. Hopefully we will know more once all info is gathered in combines, workouts, etc.

I'd say that LenDale White is a can't-miss prospect, although we don't really need him. He's got a very high talent floor with his build, speed, vision, etc. that will translate into at least a top-tier RB.

No such thing as a can't miss prospect all you can surmise is a higher probability than most others. The top 5 should all be stars considered young studs at their positions, the rest of the top 10 playmakers & through the 1st round probable starters.

It seems the more likely to excell are the offensive lineman and you don't even have to take one in the first round and that begs the question why has'nt Casserly addressed this as priority one since they drafted a franchise QB? there are a bunch of quality lineman throughout- Guards, Centers and Tackles that are going to be players in the NFL for years to come, when you consider where they are drafted and the money invested they are excellent investments. so without further ado here are my can't miss picks-

Jonathan Scott LT- UT
Winston Justice RT- USC
Davin Joseph G- OU
Max Jean-Gilles G- UG
Daryn Colledge G- Bose St.
Nick Mangold C- OSU
Greg Eslinger C- Minn.

I'm not a big fan of Hawk's, he should be a good NFL LB but he's an OLB, and our team is already full of those. If we are looking at drafting a LB, I think we have to go with a true MLB, and I don't see Hawk being that, plus if we are going to get Hawk we'd better move down to the #8 range or below because LBs aren't worth higher picks unless they are truly spectacular, and I wouldn't put Hawk in that class.

I agree with that. I'm talking about temporary/transitional starters. I think we will have 2-3 guys playing out of position on the defense this year. Long-term the front seven will need an overhaul.

I'd really like to see Jerry Gray come in here as our DC. It would be strange having an Aggie as a HC and a Longhorn as our DC.
