Cam Newton Controversy

Until agents and alumni and the player get severely punished nothing will be done. I compare it to the illegal immigration problem.

I had to bump this thread.

As I understood it, Auburn, by playing Newton today have open themselves up to major problems if Cam is found to have violated the rules.

I don't follow this side of the college game very closely but it seems to me Auburn's action today will potentially cost countless Auburn players their right to play in a future bowl game.

It seems the NCAA AND many universities simply don't give a damn about recruited meat. Nothing really new there but this seems a little more blatant than normal. How far am I off here?

LOL FBI is involved now too, ugh that's gonna get ugly.. Where there is smoke there is fire..

Of course, no one would have said a word if Newton wasn't playing as great as he has been this year. Jealousy at its finest? Who knows, will be interesting to see what happens.

Could be true. But I wonder if the loose lips would sink the biggest ships in this case. It just seems way too.....open a story to think otherwise at this point.

Burning down the house...

what about nick fairley though!!! wow what a player!
Yes he is and he looked very good against LSU. I have him on my mock draft which is looking even more reasonable as Texans moved up the board from #25 my predicted spot as 12-4. Fairly was a good DT option but this season he has really cranked it up.

On Newton, the university would lose their opportunity to be national champions if he did not play the rest of season. If he is found guilty of violating NCAA policies, Auburn and the players still lose. So I guess it is better to keep mouth shut and see what happens. Maybe they are hoping all that happens is Newton gives back the Heisman trophy and scholl is not disciplined.

It's going to be pretty crazy when he wins the Heisman this season and then the case settles in the near future and he has to forfeit it up like Reggie did.

If I am Auburn I am riding Cam all the way to a Heisman and NC. There is no reason to sit him unless they are 100% sure they will get caught.

What is the alternative? Bench Cam and possibly lose a game, forfeit the Heisman before he wins it, forfeit a NC before they get there? No thanks. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

As you've said I don't know they have a choice. It's a tough situation. They play him and the stuff hits the fan at a later date, or don't play him and then what happens? Who knows?

One thing is for sure, if they don't play him and lose a game (or even not lose), then Cam is exonerated there isn't a fan big enough to handle the shtload coming.

The only thing I can think of is if Cam is guilty of something and Auburn is turning their heads at it then the University will receive more disciplinary action. If Auburn has seen sufficient evidence that Cam should be ineligible, the have a duty to sit him, suspend him, etc. In that sense, even IF they ever have to forfeit wins or anything, they likely will receive a much lesser punishment: fines, loss of scholarships, etc.

From where I sit though, keep playing Cam. Let him win that Heisman, go when that National Championship, and keep getting stud recruits. Sitting him "to be safe" would definitely be the wrong move, imo.

If anyone is really bored and wants a pretty damn thorough recap/suppostion of events, check this thread out on tigerdroppings..

It is very long but very informative on the whole situation...

I read that thread. That is some amazing information right there. Can you imagine if half of that stuff is true?

-an Auburn booster funneled 250k to Cecil Newton via another family member
-Auburn has been paying many players
-Auburn players are given unmarked debit cards to a local bank chain
-Auburn players are given "slot machine cards" that guarantee winning slots machines, Alabama Gaming Commission involved now

Holy crap! WOW, just wow. CAM NEWTON, uh oh. AUBURN, oh no. SEC, so this is how it works... This story still has a long way to go.

Holy ****, if even one part of that is true Auburn is ****ed! And you know they aren't the only team doing that, especially in the SEC.

It's funny you say that because Ryan Perriloux was arrested for attempting to get onto a riverboat gambling ship in Louisiana with his older brothers ID... same thing maybe as with the rigged slot machine cards?

I do hope Auburn gets ****ed if this is all true. The sad thing is I one of my friends was an A&M walk-on when I was at school and he got paid regularly to suit up for games. He only got about $100 per game (through gift cards or 'scholarship' checks), but he knew the starters were getting around 1-2k each. Plus guys like Reggie McNeal were driving new BMWs and Escalades from local dealerships, which I would imagine they didn't pay for. It's all such BS how they run these programs. 'Student athletes' my ass.
