C Pitts at LT could be a disaster

gtexan02

Working?
If he improves at all or becomes even "average" it could be a disaster. This draft is filled with potential franchise LTs, and if the coaching staff thinks we have a workable LT in Pitts, they will continue to ignore the O-Line in the offseason. I have watched Pitts closely in games. He is NOT that good at LT. I don't know why people are so high on him. He gets beat by faster players too easily, and is forced to hold or come off the line a bit early to make up for it. He is a fantastic guard because speed is not really as much of a factor. He has the push, but definitely not the reaction time/technique to be our LT of the future. I hope and pray that this trend changes.

Pitts has been pretty darn impressive as a LT. He did a great job against Wistrom and a fantastic job against Dwight Freeney since replacing Riley. He is playing Tackle at a much higher level than he did when he came into the league.

:texflag: I agree he gives you options like taking another need or trading down . I also think you can get a RT in the second rd ... of course if you have a lefty for a QB then it changes .

D'Brick compares to Chris Samuels of the Redskins as far as size goes . Does anyone know how Samuels is rated as a LT ?

Pitts has done well these past two games. He has had issues with holding penalties though. I guess 1st and 20 is better than 2nd and 20 though.

I was just thinking of D'Brick alot like samuels. I think this is good, samuels does a good job a pass blocking and his size and speed allows himto get to the backers faster, did ya watch the mnf game? samuels schooled ware, it was on a screen, he slapped him silly and knocked him down with one hand, I saw D'Brick do the same in a game a few weeks back, I also saw him get blown up a few feet back, hopefully he puts on weight and strength to handle the bull rush.

Pitts is doing a damn good job. He just needs more help on the line. I beleive this opens up another option for us going into next years draft. We can now focus on other positions but still need to analyze pitts as the season goes on and see if he is indeed worthy of being our starting LT.

Pitts is the best lineman of the ones who suit up every week. It took four or five weeks to get Riley out. How much longer before we can get rid of McKinney?

Our lack of decent depth makes it difficult to feel safe just getting rid of guys. This staff has really neglected the OL and instead just adjusted all the routes and dropbacks...and we're now seeing the results.

Pitts was not good his 1st game, albeit he was getting his feet wet again. This last game he seemed to do better. Freeney was moved around a lot and still got his (sack, force a fumble) so I don't know how much emphasis you can put on the Pitts vs Freeney matchup. I have never been a Pitts supporter because I think he is way too inconsistant to be a force and doesn't play smart. I will however say that he may be the best LT option we have. That isn't saying a lot since every lineman on our team is subpar. Tell me what LT in our division or conference do you think Pitts could unseat?

I couldn't agree with you more. We also went about announcing it to the world before the start of the season. "We can't pass block so we intend to use mostly 3 step drops." Hello...do you think anyone other than Texans fans heard this? All any d-coordinator needs to do against us is put 8 or 9 in the box the entire game. Heck, we won't even throw any deep passes to AJ for him to jump up and get, ala Carr's words about "lobs," because he was only averaging 5 yards per catch. This from the guy who led the league last year in yards after the catch. Tell the entire league all we're going to do is hope for four yards per play all the way down the field and see how far it will carry you.

I think the Texans will be making a huge mistake if they pass on a LT in the draft because of Pitts. This upcoming draft is shaping up to be the best Tackle class in a long time. If we do get the #1 pick I hope we trade down a few spots or draft Leinart outright and work a trade like San Diego did. We could use the extra picks. Pitts could be our LG, RG, or RT but I would rather see a stud out there at LT like D'Brick. I think it is a no brainer. If the Texans draft anything other than OL in the first round this year there is likely to be a riot. I would love to see AJ Hawk or Leinart or J Williams or R Bush but we need to draft need this year. Trade back to where need and best player available are the same pick and pick up some extra picks.

what would it take to make a trade for a mid-first in order to get Mercedes lewis. If we get two first, one should go to the o-line and the other for Mercedes. Being able to have the same te on all downs will help the running and passing game. Mercedes can run block by the way, he just needs lower body strength to drive a little better

I've been asking the same question since year one. The Colts didn't let him get away by accident.

If we get back in the first round after we get our STUD LT I want to go after a stud LB like AJ Hawk.

Maybe Pitts looked like such a great LT in the Indy game because Carr attempted so few pass attempts. Let me see him block for someone like McNabb and then I'll grade him hihgly
