Buffalo Bill fire GM and entire scout dept

badboy

Hall of Fame
reported on ESPN. Will look for confirmation.

edit:
The Buffalo Bills wasted little time continuing their franchise makeover once the NFL draft was complete.

The team announced early Sunday morning it has fired general manager Doug Whaley, whose future had been highly uncertain since new coach Sean McDermott's arrival in January.

"After a thorough review of our football operations over the past several months, Kim and I informed Doug this morning that we will be moving in a new direction," Bills owner Terry Pegula said. "We have enjoyed working with Doug. He is a good person and we want to thank him for his work and commitment to our football team. This was my decision. It was not an easy decision but I believe it’s the right one for the future of the Buffalo Bills. Our search for a new general manager will begin immediately.”

Let the McNair's know this is how you do things.

Because, that's pretty much what happened in 2006.. except both parties saved face with a resignation.

How soon we forget.. Glad to know you give McNair props for something though.

You're dodging the point. You acted like the McNair's never dumped their G.M. following a draft before. Let's not change the subject.

Not dodging anything,

Just pointing out what should've been done in 2010 and why the team has been treading water ever since and will continue to tread water. The Bills tried to do the same thing and keep Whaley after they let go of Marrone and hired Ryan. (It never works unless the GM has pelts on the wall.) They realized their mistake and on.

The Texans org really never has completely moved on from 2002. Hence Bobby Greir still has a job within the Texans org. That doesn't even speak to keeping Kubiak/Ricky around after 2010. Then to top off the way this org is and why they wont win anything as long as the org stays the same as they are currently constructed.

The way they are set up encourages back biting between the HC/GM. Happened with Kubiak and Smith. Happening with BOB and Ricky, will happen with next HC and Ricky. But hey Ricky has made millions and will make millions more so who am I to say Ricky's wrong.

Texans have been in existence since 2002, 15 yrs. Pick the organization in which you seem great and tell me how quick they went to a Super Bowl.

To me, it feels like we're the Ravens between the Trent Dilfer Super Bowl & drafting Flacco. We may have just got our Flacco... maybe. & that is a long ways from 2002.

Some people have track records of success. (Ozzie)

Some don't (Ricky)

The Texans roster is better than the Ravens except for one position - QB. Once Rick hits on a QB (as TK says very well could have just done that) then Ricky >>> Ozzie. All this acting that you and Texian do that the entire Texans roster is crap because you hate McNair and Smith is buffoonery.

WTF? Nine years with zero playoff appearances through 2010. Since 2010 four division championships in six years. WTF treading water?

That was with Yates, broken Schaub, Hoyer, and Oz at QB. With a decent QB - one who plays his best in big games (hint - the Texans just drafted him) together with the other talent assembled by Ricky then the Texans might have a couple of pelts on the wall.

You are nobody to say Ricky is wrong because you are wrong. As always you think that if someone has $$$ success that means they are incompetent. You are still wrong.

1st of all the roster has very little depth.

2nd of all 9-7 is 9-7 the literal definition of treading water. I'm glad you have optimism about Watson. I think in a few yrs Watson will be Schaub good. Which is enough to keep NRG full but not good enough to win a SB.

3rd of all I don't hate anybody, you're happy with the way the Texans org hasperformed over the last decade. I'm not, we will have to agree to disagree. The question I ask you is if the Texans are in this same situation and I'm not talking about making the playoffs, I'm talking about being a serious contender how will you feel about the job Ricky has done? I mean it's been over a decade, how long 15 yrs/20yrs/never?

4th of all the rest of this post is a bunch of garbage. Blah blah blah. It just gets me that because you cant look at the past as a preditor of the future like I do that makes me a hater. BTW IF Ricky had don blah blah blah he would be better than Ozzie, a 2 time SB champ.

Well if I had done things in my life differently my life would've turned out differently, probably yours too/everybodys really.

Depends on who is defining "serious contender."

in the 2016 divisional round, we played the Patriots tough. There were three dropped touchdown passes that would have changed that game. So basically if those three TDs are caught, we go on to the AFCCG, Rick's one of the better GMs in the league. But since he didn't, we're not even serious contenders.

Even with those three dropped TDs, we had just as much a chance to beat the New England Patriots as the Steelers did, who lost by the same Margin. May have looked better, if you like to see lots of offensive production. But if you're one of those guys who prefer to see Brady flabergasted & rocked... our game was pretty entertaining.

But it's easy to say, "Without a QB we're not serious contenders." & the talking heads go for that low hanging fruit all day, every day. We're not built like the Patriots, but I'd argue we were serious contenders in 2016. We were serious contenders in 2011 & 2012.

Rick & the HC needs to work on consistently being contenders, I'll agree with you there.

As far as the contebder thingy goes, when have you felt good going into a playoff game against one of the big boys? I'm not talking about the Bengals/Raiders with a 3rd string QB.

McNair said he wanted his team to be built like the Pats/Steelers. But he's got the wrong person in charge if that's what he really wants.

Right now the Texans are built more like the Cowboys or old Oilers.

The Jags/Panthers made it to AFC/NFC championship games in their 3rd yrs.

How many AFC championship games have the Texans been in?

So you forgot both of those teams had picks at the beginning and the end of the rd also, remember? NFL changed this because it was deemed unfair. So imagine having 1 and 32, 33 and 64, 65, and so on. They had early success, then hit the bottom.

They didn't have to hit bottom.

The Texans have had what you're speaking of twice. How many AFC championship games again? # apologists apply here.

...and if we'd been operating under the same expansion rules they were, we might have gone too.

We've been operating under the same expansion rules as the Browns... & we see what they've done.

There's a big difference between having the first & last pick in a draft and having the first pick in a draft. For one, it's dang near twice the players. Imagine you could pick 14 players in the next draft when other teams can only draft 7.

I don't have to apologize, but you mentioned 2 teams that after their early success, the rules were changed. I would imagine if the Texans and browns those extra picks, the base of the squad would be better. How many championship games did the jaguars make it to once Peyton entered the division? I will wait

They probably would've made atleast had Garrard not crapped the bed in big games every time he faced the Steelers/Pats in the playoffs.
