Buchannon

Alright guys I'm not here to start any problems or anything I just want to know whats going on with Phillip Buchannon. Living in the northeast I don't get any texans games, butfrom what I heard he was actually doing good at corner for you guys. I thought he and Dunta would have a great season together. Could anyone give me information on this.

In game one, he gave up a few curl routes where he was playing way too soft. Of course, they all happened in the first quarter, and the strong safety was up in the box to help stop the run during that time, so it could be argued that he was paying soft due to lack of safety support. 2nd Q and beyond, none of the BUF WR really made any receptions, and Buchanon was never really victimized again. In the game vs. the Steelers, he was back to playing off again, and to really add icing to the cake, he blew a critical tackle on Parker that resulted in a TD. For the most part, I don't think he's the worst part of the problem on defense, but he's certainly not performing close to what we expect. So yeah, he sucks. HTH.

Do you think some of it could be due to your coaching staff, and they defensive schemes they are playing? I am just saying this because going into last year everyone figured the Eagles secondary was pretty much screwed with Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard both being 5-10. Everyone knows how that turned out Lito made the pro bowl, and Sheldon came up with a great season. Personally I don't think that would have happened if Jim Johnson (I'm sure you guys know him by know :) ) had not had the plays that put them in the positions they need to be in.

Honestly, Lito did not have a great season last year because he .. like Phillip Buchannon is a gambling type of corner back. They are both always going to go for the big play. Sometimes it works out in their favor, and sometimes it doesn't.

Thats just it-our coaching staff has turned buchannon from a gambler into a sure bet coverage corner. Only, he plays so off his man that he always gives up the catch. Its like instead of playing close and going for picks, he is playing way off and givning up 10 yards (which apparently is better than 70)

We could get away with corners of that nature if we had half the pass rush the eagles give.

Due to the coaching staff? Yeah, maybe.

Due to the schemes specifically? Not when he stops in his tracks at about the 3 yard line, acts scared, and lets the RB run right by him so the other team can have a good laugh in the end-zone. I'd like to know what excuse Buchannon was using when Robinson was chewing him out on the side-lines. I can't read lips, but I saw Buchannon shrug and say something like maybe, "He faked me out," (yeah, right) or, "I couldn't have stopped him anyway. He had the momentum." (You could have tried.)
