I'm not sure what Detroit got in compensation, but they drafted Roy Williams that year. I believe they got Jones in the 2nd.

the browns wanted k2 so they traded a 2nd to get him. they did not really have a chance to get jones with the second rounder that they gave up. the lions traded up to the first to get him so i don't think that jones would have fallen to the browns second. i really like kellen and hope that he is ok, but i think that guy needs to straight up, he is a great talent but just can't make it to the field, i don't know if i can stick up for him much longer.

The Cleveland Browns are concerned that injuries suffered by Kellen Winslow Jr. in a weekend motorcycle accident will prevent the second-year tight end from playing this season, NFL sources said.

The primary problem, sources said, are potentially significant injuries to the right knee and right shoulder -- with the club unable to determine the extent of damage to either until swelling subsides.

The swelling in the knee was considerable, sources said, with the Browns fearful Winslow may have torn his anterior cruciate ligament. The club also suspects Winslow may have suffered ligament or tendon damage to his shoulder, sources said.

In addition, sources said the Browns believe Winslow may have suffered a punctured lung and an injury to his kidney, but that neither had the club overly concerned. A source close to the club said the kidney was bruised.

Winslow was hurt while riding his motorcycle in the parking lot of a community college Sunday. According to police, he hit a curb while driving 35 mph and was thrown from the bike.

He later was taken by ambulance to Fairview Hospital and was transferred to Cleveland Clinic where the Browns' medical staff treated him. The club later said Winslow's injuries were not life threatening, but sources close to the team said the organization has serious concerns that his season may be imperiled.

"Winslow has sustained some internal injuries, which are stable," the Browns said in a statement released Monday. "There is also swelling in his right shoulder and knee. The extent of the injuries will not be known until further medical evaluation is completed after the swelling is reduced."

Winslow was the team's first-round draft pick in 2004, but missed all but two games after breaking his right leg against Dallas attempting to recover an onside kick in the closing seconds.

Winslow, who had five catches last year, had two surgeries on the leg and appeared recovered from the injury.

USA Today reported today (page 19c) that KWII lost over $10 million last year in bonuses and salaries last year and that this years loss may total over $10 million more in signing and option bonuses. Ironic, the greedy holdout a-hole losing all his money.

So he has lost (or reportedly will lose) over $20 million of his $40 million 6 year deal. O DISCORDIA!!!!

Also noted on the Bills site from a fan who listens to Cleveland radio;

I can get Cleveland talk radio here, and they are extremly worried that his career is over.

Kellen Winslow Jr's newest endorsement;

Legend's Scooters!!!

I'm a huge browns fan, and the one thing that is really bothering me is the way the organization is handeling this. There are a lot of browns fans genuinly concerned about KW2's health, and they know nothing. All we get is "sources report"

Maybe this is the patriots way of doing things, but I don't like it.

Wow.. good thing we didn't draft him... I couldn't imagine the am't of heat the front office would take given the am't of heat the FO is taking for Joppru.. and he has been hurt ON the field..
practice field that is

Well doesn't appear to involve wheelie (were the cops just throwing Winslow under the bus with their report on witnessing two wheelies?), gotta wonder what the Browns are going to do if he is out for the season again. I mean that is a lot of money out the door and on the cap for a guy who isn't playing.

Actually I posted a Thread about the injuries (glued to this thread, apparently, link to page) being reported, and metioned the financial ramifications for Winslow and the team. The violation of his contract will require repayment of his signing bonus (no cap hit there) as well as lost salaries through the year, and no bonuses or incentives being paid out. All told this little wreck will likely cost Winslow over $10 million dollars this year, all of which WILL go back to the teams bank. My financial source was USA Today, Friday's morning edition.

I wasn't aware the img tags were functional... Cool, I love this little pic, Kellens new endorsement;

Wow, I understand looking at it as karma, but don't celebrate the man getting hurt.

seriously, i understand that a lot of guys don't like him, thats your opinion, but don't say you hope he never plays again.

Imo, the browns should try to seek some of the money back, esp if he loses the season to his injuries.

Kellen Winslow has done nothing except bring the browns down.

#1 Drafted 6th overall in 04, then complained because he thought he should have gone higher..

#2 Breaks his leg in his second NFL game and missed the rest of his rookie season

#3 Instead of focusing on getting back into football, this clown is out riding a motorcycle, without a liscence or the skills to operate a bike...and look what happened.

***Sources confirming fears of career ending injuries, Lacerated Kidney and Liver, 2 broken leg bones, Torn knee ligaments.***

5 On Your Side Health Team Anchor Lee Jordan reported sources close to the Winslow story said the Sunday motorcycle accident left Winslow with a broken tibia and femur, the large bone in his thigh. His ACL was damaged, possibly torn and there are lacerations on his liver and kidney...

One media outlet is even suggesting Winslow's football career is over, WEWS reported.

You gotta view the reconstruction of the accident. You should see how this guy goes down, and it is obvious how Kellen got hurt. It is almost scary to watch.

Browns | Winslow Out for the Season - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 18 May 2005 16:34:17 -0700

Jim Donovan, of WKYC.com, reports Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow Jr. (knee) will miss the entire 2005 season. His station, Channel 3 News, has learned that Winslow has a significant right knee injury. Results of Winslow's MRI have not been released, but Donovan is reporting sources told him the results show an injury to his ACL. The Winslow family will not allow the information to be become public.

personally, I think (or hope) that this is a wakeup call for this youngster.

at this point, if they are not willing to release the info its obviously bad, its not like they are withholding saying he is allright.

What a horrible turn of events and the thing is the browns can't really go to hard after his money cause it would look bad, even though they have every right too, it would look bad from potential free agents and rookies.

i think he is out for the year, and i doubt he can ever be what he could have been. Him and joppru are having a running contest here.

The 2 situations are really quite different. Joppru is just the bad luck kid as
his injuries were hardly the result of poor judgement. Winslow used the worst
kind of judgement which by most reports, from what I understand, included an activity that was explicitly forbidden by his contract with the Browns. Winslow obviously did not have his old mans legal training, or was just to arrogant and stupid to pay any attention to the contract of which he was a party.

.
Actually, because this is a non sports related injury, it is up to the Winslow family if they want to allow info to be released.

Obviously they don't want that.
