so...what happens if we do select brown and then charles spencer makes a full recovery by the season opener? do we platoon them or move one?

that sounds like a decent line to be behind. with black and salaam as 2nd string guys. isn't black like a utility infielder of offensive lines?

I have no problem with that offensive line at all! Sounds great to me!

:yahoo:

new protection for a new qb....i'd love this line. though you might swap spencer and Brown from RT to LT. just because he did so well there last year, pre-injury.

That looks pretty good, dude.

It would be fixing the number one problem for the first time ever and would have huge ripples on offense. Matt would have time to make a pass, and teh running game would improve, too, just by virtue of this alone.

Honestly, Levi Brown is not the one I would pick, but taking a left tackle in the first round - hell, I won't be picky...

Has Winston ever played guard? Why assume a player 6'7" tall can play that position? The shorter, heavier defensive tackles will get under him and have a lot of leverage. They'll blow him up constantly.

I think the proper term is "jack of all trades, master of none".

Also what is up with giving Weary the C position all of a sudden ??? I know there are talks that he played there in college...but he has been out of college for years....Flannagan/McKinney are better options I believe...IF we draft Brown I think our line will look like this

Brown(Spencer)...Pitts....Flannagan(McKinney)...Weary...Winston(Black)

What?! Weary at Center? Winston at RG? Spencer making a full recovery?

I would like to start the season with this line:

Salaam-Pitts-McKinney-Weary-Staley
Winston

I think that if we draft Brown and Spencer comes back healthy, we may have to trade Winston some time in the future. That's nothing against Winston, because I wanted him on this team, but his trade value might be more than he'd be worth to this team (as a backup OT). Nice problem to have.

man, you're missing the point big time...

IF brown were to be our 10th pick AND spencer came back 100% at the season opener, what would you do?

and i picked weary at center precisely because he played in college...so...why not try him out there? maybe he is better there OR better than the old couple...

so remember kids, if at first you don't succeed, try the same damn thing over and over until the entire city of houston hates you david carr.

i think you are missing the point... our guards are one of the few positions that almost nobody thinks we need improvement on. personally i am fine with pitts and weary at guards. they are fine. why stir things up where there is not as big of a problem? i think the goal for the coming years for the o-line isnt just getting better players, but also to establishing some consistency. in my opinion, if we were to get brown, and spencer is back for good, i see us doing one of the two following things:

1. Brown(Spencer)/Pitts/Flannagan(McKinney(either/or))/Weary/Winston(Black)

2. Spencer(Black)/Pitts/Flannagan(McKinney(either/or))Weary/Brown(Winston)

there are a few factors that would determine which of the above lines i would chose, how close to 100% spencer is, how much(if any) winston improves from last season, and how fast the coaching staff thinks brown will adapt to the nfl are some of the big ones. also, im not sure trading winston would be a good decision, tackle is such a big ?... spencer could get injured again(knock on wood), brown could not pan out, and winston has already proved that he can play, and will probably get better. imagine having 2 good starting tackles... and when one gets tired, plug in winston for a drive or two, then BAM... fresh starter in the 4th quarter... man i get excited when i think of the possibilities of the future for this team...

we certainly have more options..

Brown-Pitts-Weary(Mckinney)-Spencer-Winston

Brown-Pitts-Mckinney-Spencer-Winston

Spencer-Pitts-McKinney-Weary-Brown

the list goes on...

I'm not sold on him playing at G at that height... You have to have a thick rear end and have a low center of gravity ideally.

I'm hardly missing the point. If we had Brown and Spencer, why would you then weaken the inside of the line by putting a player at guard who'll get blown up half the time? Different positions require different athletes. Pretty simple.
