Brantly Signs With Texans (Then is Cut)

Wow! That was quick. I guess Kubes Aggie loyalty only goes so far. Personally, I was hoping they could have shelved him on the PS and give him another year to hone his skills, but I don't know of any team willing to use a PS spot on a Punter. I only hope Turk will up his performance some this year, which is not likely after a certain age. We may not have heard the last of Brantley yet! :shades:

Kubiak said early on they would only take one punter to training camp. So his being cut should not be a surprise.

During camp they asked Brantley what he needed to work on the most, and he said hang time. Coach Ted has been consistent in likely older kickers/punters and hang time to him is worth more than yds/kick. So that was as couple strikes against Brantley.

Lastly, if Brantley does not make an active roster the team in theory could sign him to the practice squad.

On a side note, Turk tells how it took him a few years of camps and a many try outs to finally make a roster, that is norm for punters, very few are drafted and kick from day one. Brantley now has been shown the items he needs to work on, and it's up to him to make himself good enough to be one the 32 punter in the league. Good luck to him and hopefully he gets another shot here when Turk is done.

I was just listening on 610 and a caller brought up Brantly.

Neither Matt Jackson, Rich Lord, nor John McClain were aware that he had been cut. LOL

Not that it's earth-shaking news or anything... but you'd think they would know.

That's the state of Texas football now...the city is buzzing with Rice's James Casey, but an Aggie gets cut and the city's sports writer had no clue.

I think you're confusing your aggie/owl thing for just regular shotty Texans coverage in one of the largest markets in the world.

Biz as usual.
