McNair was just on the The Afternoon Blitz with Adam Schein and John Riggins.
The main purpose of the interview was to ask McNair about the problems that Jacksonville might come across hosting the Super Bowl this year . . . facilities, transportation needs, venues, .. blah blah blah.
Eventually though, they got around to discussing the Texans . . and he made a couple of interesting statements. Regarding last season, he mentioned that even though the team finished 7-9, he saw improvement, and "3 of the losses could have gone either way".
He was asked about the working relationship about Capers and Casserly, and he replied that they have a good relationship in which they consult with each other and reach an agreement on player matters, free agents, signings, re-signings, and the draft. and when it involves money, he gets involved in the decision making, even though the decision is still reached by 'concensus' among the the three. As for football matters in and of itself, he hired Capers and Casserly to do those jobs, "but that doesn't mean that I don't ask questions."
He said that eventually, as they "continue to add more players, and build on the core nucleus", the Texans will get to the playoffs. "I don't know when this will happen, but eventually we will". But he emphasized that in today's NFL, the importance of not only getting good players, but being able to hold onto them once you have them . . . as in signing them to long term contracts before their original contracts expire.
And finally . . . this. "Our goal, is not only to get to the Super Bowl, but to win it. But of course, in order to do that, you have to get to the playoffs. But once we reach the playoffs, we want to have the type of program in place to where we remain at playoff level. I don't want to be near the top for a couple years, and then have to start a rebuilding program".
